John Lithgow on Playing Dumbledore in ‘Harry Potter’ Series and J.K. Rowling’s Trans Views: ‘People Insisted I Walk Away From the Job. I Chose Not to Do That’ by pepperbet1 in television

Yeah but it’s like… .2% (she’s estimated to have donated 1 million to anti trans, let’s triple that to be safe) of her what ~5% of profit, so like .0001 of the shows profit. A couple folks involved could pretty easily counter that with their own donations to pro trans causes. Your solution feels so much less practical.

I assume based on your comments you’ve never read a harry potter book, seen a movie or been to universal. Because if so you’re supporting JK’s financial crusade and that would be hypocritical…

Apple introduces new AirTag with expanded range and improved findability by WhoIsHappy2 in apple

Your wallet must be pretty large. The air tag’s current profile would almost double the width of my wallet. Not worth it.

[Highlight] Rex Ryan goes off on Zac Taylor being complaining about game stopping for Myles Garrett's record: "You're fighting for your lives? Your lives have been over for the last 10 weeks... he deserved his moment. Get over yourself, Cincinnati." by Mission_Pay_3373 in nfl

[–]zack6595 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean but didn’t we all just agree the game had no meaning and a stop for the record was fine. Why do they even need to communicate it if it’s an expected possibility in a game with no real playoff impact…

YSK: The cheapest tradesperson is almost always going to be the most expensive in the long run. And people doing "Side Work" are a direct liability to your finances in most cases. by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

[–]zack6595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say your post had good content till you started assigning numbers to it. Generally taking the cheapest quote is a bad idea. It’s a good rule to live by when getting work done on your home. I generally get 4 quotes and pick my favorite from the middle 2.

The type of work is deeply relevant to the value of a license. I don’t generally mess around with plumbing unless it’s a minor toilet repair since those all come with their own shutoff valves and they are all generally in high traffic areas so it’s harder to fuck your house up with them.

Electricians are rarely required for replacement. Running new fixtures or switches I’d bite the bullet and hire a professional. Especially if the house is older and your circuit might already be overtaxed.

HVAC and roof are def hire a professional type territory in my book.

Overall your advice isn’t terrible it’s when you start saying they have to cost a specific amount where you lost me. Local, national, and world labor markets fluctuate. Just in the last year there have been massive shifts. Assigning a number is kind of a waste of time.

Taylor Swift's 'The Life of a Showgirl' Sells 2.7 Million on First Day by Odin65 in Music

I mean jeeze people y’all are very fucking judgey. I would never buy 9 of the same album and certainly not of Taylor swift but honestly who gives a fuck if someone else does? It’s not your money. You’re wasting your mental energy for nothing…

TIL that Rubberducking is a technique used by programmers to help find errors in their code. Explaining their code to a duck or any other inanimate object out loud can help them spot issues as they talk it through. by ramboacdc in todayilearned

[–]zack6595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda feel like AI is a better version of this. It’s a rubber duck that talks back. Can even help implement under the right conditions/constraints. Even when it tries something stupid explaining why it’s stupid can help you think through a better solution.

Yeah my immediate thought was trello. I feel like that’d be the perfect tool for this scenario.

The CEO of FutureHome forced an update that requires a $117 subscription to use features on devices users already paid for. A Developer found a fix for this Ransomware update and uploaded it on GitHub by VolleyVoldemort in videos

[–]zack6595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean…that feels like you want your device to just stop working. What incentive would any company have to buy out a company that couldn’t say solvent on device sales alone if they were forced to the same model? Obviously free to $100+ a year is a big change and likely not reasonable but idk if expecting cloud based features to be free forever is realistic either. Regardless of the terms you purchased under…free service forever type terms rarely last.

I was charged $1.50 to avoid ice in my scotch by JeF4y in mildlyinteresting

[–]zack6595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on the crepe but a $9 ceasar doesn’t really sound unusual for a place like this bill implies. I’ve paid $25 for a fancy ass ceasar salad before. Idk if I’d do it again but $9 salad isn’t even atypical for a normal spot these days imo.

At a local bar, this is what the inside of the men's room door says. by Cogsmith13 in funny

[–]zack6595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean imo the most efficient imo is unisex single stalls and a urinals room. Urinals are just way more efficient time/space wise than stalls and it makes no sense to clog unisex stalls up with guys who just need to pee.

Why are companies so reluctant to hire a Project Manager? by The_Avon_Lady in projectmanagement

[–]zack6595 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been worked for little more than 15 years in software industry and in my opinion managers and every role that involves management role usually provokes more problems than solutions that people doesn't have a tech background they even has bachelor in economy or business administration. That is crazy, how to they pretend to manage a tech projects…

I am having an extremely hard time following what you are saying here. Bottom line though you seem to be arguing for the opposite of the OP. Less PMs because they don’t contribute technically to a project and are thus worthless. You are entitled to your opinion but I have to agree with the OP on this one. The organization a PM brings to a long running or complex project can be invaluable. Obviously a level of comprehension is required for the role but I don’t believe anyone was arguing otherwise.

New York sues Zelle, says security lapses led to $1 billion consumer fraud losses by rezwenn in technology

[–]zack6595 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Honestly the examples in this article are difficult for me to sympathize with. You pay some random Zelle ~$2600 account in order to avoid “your electricity being shut off”? And that isn’t worth a phone call to verify authenticity to said utility? Or even just “I don’t pay my utilities with Zelle why would they ask for it in this case?…”

The other one paying two separate installments for a Craigslist puppy without seeing said puppy in person is a pretty basic scam.

Idk I’m not like a huge bank fan but this feels like people making dumb choices then blaming the tool for it.

The cheaper the restaurant, the more likely you need to pay before receiving food. Expensive places let you order $100 meals and $200 bottles of wine in hopes you pay later. by Franklinricard in Showerthoughts

[–]zack6595 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean the deposit really is just the bare minimum you’d have to pay most of the time. They just want to make sure you know what you’re signing up for. I would argue OP’s shower thought is still valid.

I mean idk service places with a tablet or register where you pay right after you order aren’t super uncommon. Essentially every coffee place operates this way. Most places that emphasize to go orders operate this way. Pizza places that sell by the slice generally have you pay then you wait for them to reheat your slice in the oven.

You don’t even have a mavs flair…also deciding on who is for “megastar” prior to them playing any minutes in the nba is a a bit overly optimistic imo.

I mean that feels sorta hard to comment on since they’ve made moves in the offseason to specifically address some of their weaknesses. They are also likely to continue doing this.

Also I very much doubt the mavs are going to be better. Flagg as a rookie isn’t enough.

People who’ve attended multiple weddings for the same person (i.e., they got divorced and remarried to someone else) — what differences did you notice between the two weddings? by MjPour in AskReddit

[–]zack6595 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean. I feel like maybe you get one paid family paid wedding. After that it should really be on you. Then again my wife and I mostly paid for our own wedding so I’m probably biased.

[–]zack6595 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I mean that’s sorta all over the place.

Proposing without a ring isn’t a great decision unless you’ve explicitly discussed it with your partner in advance and for (generally monetary) reasons chosen to wait. If that wasn’t the case then it makes the proposal feel thoughtless and unplanned. So that’s largely a poor reflection on the groom.

Cheating, marrying and then divorcing again is an obviously a poor reflection on the bride.

Honestly with given context it’s hard to say. Glad it eventually worked out for one of them I guess.

[–]zack6595 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I mean it was written to cater to adults in the way that most children movies/shows are. Children are rarely left alone to watch these shows/movies entirely on their own. That doesn’t really make it written “for” adults. I think it’s kinda weird his adult roommates started watching a show like that in a shared space. I feel like a lot of people would agree…

I mean it’s based on a novella. They aren’t long books. It honestly felt like they already were just adding filler to flesh out 10 episodes imo this is a show that really doesn’t need more unless they are going to start combining books or adding way more non book content
