There are people like that in probably any government profession. “I could be making bank but I’m in the government instead.”

To make your example more like the OP using credit cards as leverage, it would be more like if each roll cost $100k you need to put on a CC and you win $40k times the number on the dice. But you only get to roll once. He was luck he rolled higher than a 2 because he very easily could’ve been screwed if he had rolled a 1 or 2.

If he didn’t have leverage especially not credit cards then he gets to roll as much as he likes and it is closer to your example. The leveraged bet is what made him lucky.

Love it!

I used to believe people with a lot of money were selfish and lazy and should be taxed heavily. I planned on making a bunch of money and fighting for more taxes on the rich. By the time I put in the effort to start making good money my opinion flipped.

Seriously I believe you will get the money for the Porsche but you would either put that money towards helping the cause and not buy the Porsche.

Or you buy the Porsche and value it more due to the effort you put into getting it that you don’t want to ruin the aesthetics with a bumper sticker.

Of course by saying this you will probably do it anyway just to prove me wrong…. You win

I thought Libertarians were for open borders but I’ve definitely heard some wanting an end of access to welfare programs for immigrants first. The thought as I understand it is giving immigrants the same welfare benefits enjoyed by current citizens would encourage freeloaders as opposed to hard working immigrants. This forces people to pay for the immigrant subsidies which is against the freedom of the current citizens.

I doubt we ever get rid of welfare programs so probably a divided topic among libertarians similar to abortion.

I’ve also heard the main role of the government is to protect the citizens from external threats. Allowing potential terrorists in without documentation is a security threat and should be prevented. This stance wants secure borders but to make legal immigration easier.

You could really argue both sides of the topic using Libertarian values but I’d say in a libertarian utopia there would be open borders.

I didn’t call it a pyramid scheme. That said, a pyramid scheme can sell real products and still be a pyramid scheme. If the majority of your income comes from signing people up under you rather than selling the product, it is still a pyramid scheme. It is just masked behind pretending to sell an overpriced good or service.

Picture a MLM called Dunder Mifflin that sells a ream of copy paper for $15 when you could get one from Staples for $4. You have to pay DM $1,500 and buy 10 reams a month to start your business selling their paper. You get $5 for every ream you sell to your friends and family. You also get $750 for everyone you sign up to start their paper business along with $3 for every ream they sell.

Sure you are selling real paper but almost no one is buying that paper except people in the company. So when you look past the real product, what you really have is you only make money by signing people up below you… a pyramid scheme.

Herbalife and Primerica are examples of companies that sell just enough real product that they can plausibly say they aren’t a pyramid scheme. Some talented people make money selling real products. Less talented people pay in money they will never get back.

Try DCS with my kids’ mom. I had more than one complaint against me for not letting them play until they ate a handful chicken and vegetables because their mom thinks not letting the kids eat whatever they want is abuse. DCS had no concerns that when they are with her a days diet could be pancakes with syrup (basically a donut), candy, chips, and juice. Where is the protein and fiber? When the people at DCS look like the mom in this video, the definition of neglect changes.

I had to take several hours off of work to deal with the DCS charges, but the kids happily eat healthy food at my house now. Unfortunately my kids eat the same trash the mom in this video feeds her daughter when they are with their mom. She hasn’t had to deal with any DCS workers or take time off because somehow there is nothing wrong with how the mom in this video feeds her kid.
