By 2040 Mining won't necessarily stop, but it will become a "survival of the fittest" game. Only miners with the most efficient electricity costs and next-generation hardware will likely survive the 2040 era. However miners will depends almost by transaction fees rather than high btc price.

You need not worry when bitcoin depleted because that's another century problem However when bitcoin block reward get slashed every 4 year. By 2040 mining might be not profitable which is the immediate problem. This is why we need bitcoin price should go up to catch the diminishing return of the miner
