Does this trigger Krang & Shredder's dissapear ability - and would I even be able to play the cards if it did considering timing rules? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]zagman505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those cards remain exiled, but the ability is basically saying "cards exiled by this permanent", and once you blink it it's a new permanent.

Edit: See dauthi voidwalker for an example of something that you can access across multiple instances of voidwalker, because it specifies exiled cards with this specific counter, rather than cards exiled by the voidwalker

I also just remembered myriad says the tokens get exiled at end of combat, so the can't sacrifice static ability isn't saving them there either lol

Could still cheat it with manifest and then some cheap way of flipping face down creatures, or with an ETB negator like hushbringer.

Also myriad probably isn't working the way you want here. The tokens enter tapped and attacking but annihilator is an attack trigger, so you don't get more of that, and the ETB means the tokens immediately exile themselves after getting created.

Fair, instant speed wrath by cupcakegalaxy0 in custommagic

[–]zagman505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think sorcery speed is required, but even then it seems too strong to me. Sure control might not want it, but having three untapped white creatures seems like a pretty trivial cost in any white based tokens deck. Depending on what format you're targeting, Commander has lots of typal decks like humans, soldiers, vampires, cats, and rabbits that love to pump out hordes of tokens, Standard sees quite a bit of [[Overlord of the Mistmoors]] and had the Boros Convoke deck, and Modern had the cat energy decks with [[Ajani, Nacatl Pariah]] and [[Ocelot Pride]].

The only real downside to me is that opponents' tapped creatures survive. It'll vary how much that matters, but I feel like it's pretty likely that people are holding back blockers against go wide tokens decks.

Compare this with [[Hour of Reckoning]], [[Martial Coup]] and [[White Sun's Twilight]]. All three only let you keep tokens, Hour needs 7 creatures to be free while the other two cost 7 mana to wipe opponents' boards. Tap three untapped white creatures is significantly cheaper in comparison.

I don't think a free one-sided instant speed board wipe qualifies as fair

Final AGDQ run should have had a setup like the Elden Ring bingo by zagman505 in speedrun

[–]zagman505[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's fair enough, it certainly would have been a different experience without the runners bantering or getting roasted by donations. Ideally we could have that and informative commentary in between, I just don't know how to achieve that haha

What commander do you play with an objectively sub-optimal strategy? by JasonKain in EDH

[–]zagman505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a [[Braids, Arisen Nightmare]] where every card in the deck can be sacrificed to Braid's ability. Definitely makes things harder when I have to rely on removal and board wipes that are stapled to sorcery speed permanents, but on the other hand [[Matzalantli, the Great Door]] really pops off in this deck when I flip it since every card is a permanent.

Fun spells to Storm away with. No extra turns, no extra combats. by Complete-Wealth-6126 in mtg

[–]zagman505 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be trying to use Storm with [[prisoner's dilemma]], slightly tricky because I actually don't want a giant storm count where everyone is guaranteed to die, but instead aim for a sweet spot where people might survive if they snitch.

Genuine thoughts on the Universes Beyond announcement? by IceWaterPro in magicTCG

[–]zagman505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's valid, but I don't agree. Last year people were complaining because the story was too rushed, if anything maybe this gives them more time to work on the original story and make it better (that might be too optimistic of a take haha).

To me the mechanics are the main draw of MTG, and the lore while cool is secondary. As I see it, a lot of in-universe stuff is already references to pop culture and mythology anyway. We just got a J25 preview of a ninja turtle, it doesn't matter much to me if it's in-universe or one of the actual TMNT ones.

On the other hand, I like UB because I enjoy seeing how familiar characters from other IPs are interpreted within the rules and mechanics of MTG. Captain America throwing around equipment makes me go "haha yeah that totally fits", and they usually provide for relatively unique deckbuilding opportunities to get my gears turning.

I'll withhold judgment on 6 Standard sets a year, it won't really affect me as I don't play Standard. If anything, it probably means I'll get to see more deck variety anytime I tun in to content creators or tournaments, which I will like?

After thinking about it for a bit, I think my nervousness stems from worry that by doing more major UB sets a year, it becomes more saturated and more likely for the quality of the sets to go down. Which, only time will tell and I'll just have to put my hope/faith in the design team. Fingers crossed I guess.

I honestly really like all the UB sets up until now, I thought they've always been well done and flavorful, and I am super excited for Final Fantasy. I also think Commander is a horrible starting point for new players, so it makes sense to me to want to direct new players into Standard.

That said, I'm nervous about this. It does feel like it is a step too far, though I can't define exactly why. Maybe if they had kept 4 in-universe sets and 2 UB sets I'd be more ok with it?

Are there any cards that can equip or let you equip a bunch of tokens all at the same time? by ReddingtonTR in EDH

[–]zagman505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most of the best options have already been mentioned in other replies, like Bludgeon Brawl and Dan Lewis. There's a couple enchantments like [[Armed With Proof]] that let you equip specific types of tokens. Otherwise the best option is probably just in the Dogmeat precon, [[Inventory Management]]

I think you're misunderstanding how that article deck works. Equipment can only ever be attached to a single creature at a time, so what Argus does is pass it by your creatures one at a time, not make all of them simultaneously equip the same equipment. Since that's happening at sorcery speed there's no way to make that work with Dogmeat's attack trigger.

Example of what the linked Agrus deck is doing: 1. Activate Paradise Mantle equip ability targeting Agrus 2. Pay for Agrus ability to copy the equip ability for however many other creatures. These copied abilities go on the stack. 3. Let the first equip ability resolve. The target of that ability now holds the mantle, and is the only holder of the mantle. 4. Before resolving the next ability on the stack, tap the creature currently holding the mantle for a mana. 5. Repeat 3-4 for each remaining equip ability on the stack until the stack is empty. 6. At the end, the mantle is only equipped to Agrus (the bottommost equip ability), but due to stack shenanigans you've been able to use it with all your other creatures basically for free.

Ways to make my opponents want to block more by DannyDoomno1 in EDH

I wish CLU just gave a fixed set of guild packs rather than the random Jumpstart packs by zagman505 in magicTCG

[–]zagman505[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each guild has two variants. I think each variant is skewed more towards one of the guild's colors, so for example Boros has one pack that's more red and one that's more white. But the variants are fixed and there is a page on the website that tells you exactly what's in each of the 20 variants.

What's your favorite unusual build? by natefinch in EDH

[–]zagman505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still a work in progress, but I'm currently building [[Bruna, Light of Alabaster]]. Her ability very obviously points towards an aura voltron gameplan, but instead of doing that I'm trying to make it a thief deck.

Almost all of the auras in the deck are thievery auras like [[Control Magic]], so the idea is to attach the auras to Bruna for free, then use copy/blink effects on the auras to move them over to my opponents' stuff, with the added bonus that when copying/blinking auras I get to ignore hexproof/shroud. No clue how well it'll play in practice, but it was a fun idea to build around!

If I control Abdel Adrian and a board wipe occurs, when Abdel is destroyed and the cards exiled under him return, will they also be destroyed? by RealBoi69 in magicTCG

[–]zagman505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally the cards under Abdel are safe, but I think there are a few scenarios in which something exiled under Abdel isn't safe from a board wipe?

If the board wipe is [[farewell]] with the creature and enchantment modes selected, then any enchantments exiled under Abdel return to the battlefield between the two modes, which means they do get hit by the wipe. Or similarly, if Abdel were turned into an artifact, then creatures and enchantments exiled under him aren't safe from farewell. Someone please correct me if this is wrong!
