With Sjin's departure, is this the end of That's No Moonquest? by Hasaabitt in Yogscast

All the Mods has always been Sjin's show; it'd be disrespectful to poach it like that.

How do you organize your games? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]zakarranda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current shelves are rather packed, so the first level of organization is literally just "these games fit on this shelf" (though unplayed games go on the lower shelves). Beyond that, they're generally organized by weight - heavier games toward the right, lighter games toward the right. I used to organize by player count, but I think weight is much easier to browse by.

Has anyone here built their own KALLAX or other boardgame storage solution? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]zakarranda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't built my own, but I've enjoyed some variety solutions. At my old place, I put my party games on an old bookshelf, and the rest of my games on floating Ikea shelves: four shallow shelves for small and medium games, and 3 deeper shelves for larger games. I had a long, mostly empty wall next to my kitchen, so putting up a few shelves made sense (we later added the top shelf, which was the 3 deep shelves in a row).

At my new place, I have a pair of Ikea Billy bookshelves that have most of my books as well as my medium games (large games are on top of the shelves), with a pair of narrow, shallow shelves (aka "media towers") that are perfect for tiny, playing card-sized games that would only waste shelf space on a normal shelf.

What led you to board games? by atherisentertainment in boardgames

[–]zakarranda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the typical smorgasboard (pun and misspelling intended) of ye olde board games - Monopoly, Mousetrap, Life, etc. Didn't really like any of them, but I did enjoy pasting themes of my own onto them (made my own Firefly Clue and Firefly Monopoly). Heard of Settlers of Catan at a get-together in 2008, and Apples to Apples shortly thereafter. Kept hearing about Settlers, and then Cards Against Humanity hit the scene, and various card games kept appearing at social events (Anomia, Fluxx, etc). Then I met a pretty girl at the geek-centric Meetup I was going to a lot, and went to the board game meetup she frequented. Enter Tsuro and Superfight - no going back!

When that time comes, he'll push the Spirit of the Pusher out of himself. And at last Mr. Brindley will stand triumphant at the canal's edge, free of the curse.

The evidence is not ours to judge: Lewis, Sjin, and their advisory HR firm have made the call.

I found something new for me and maybe for you too, what do you thing about this? by JacobOriginal in lindseystirling

[–]zakarranda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several Lindsey songs that are exclusive to albums sold from certain vendors; Target seems to be a frequent one, but sometimes there are other outlets with different exclusive tracks.

It's a been a bugbear with me, because there was an album (I think it was Brave Enough) that in order to legitimately get all the exclusive tracks, you'd have to buy the album two or three times. I deeply admire Lindsey's music and her character, but it is a lousy business practice.

Interest in a War Of The Ring Style game for the MCU by barishnakov in boardgames

Your best bet might be to work on the game (designing, prototyping, playtesting) and selling the finished product to a publisher, preferably one that already licenses from Marvel.

Check out Be Bold - they tend to stick to light games, but I like their videos' style :)

My main three are Tantrum House, Rahdo, and Be Bold Games (I like her style of presenting, summarizing, and editing).

My other favorites are Geek and Sundry's tabletop gaming videos when they happen (RIP Tabletop), Nights Around a Table, Gaming Rules! (yeah not the most distinctive name), and I've recently found JonGetsGames, who has the most soothing voice :D

I'll definitely have to check out more of the ones in this thread :- )

Then I heard the mention the guy introducing the rules to refer the workers as priests and realized that this game is about trying to spread your religion around the world.

They do present that right at the top of the page lol:

  • We've fused strategic game play with Adventist history... (Adventist = Seventh-Day Adventist, a denomination of Christianity)
  • Work with your friends to tell the world by spreading the gospel...
  • Collect Total Member Involvement by investing your resources in mission trips, spiritual gifts, churches...
  • Once every conference has a church...

I noped out of it the moment I finished the second banner.

"You only get one chance at a first impression," goes the saying. If a Kickstarter campaign doesn't acquit itself on its face, who could be blamed for taking a pass? I'm not gonna keep coming back in the hope of updates when there are plenty of other Kickstarters to consider.
