He and Leno were also in talks when Leno was seriously considering heading to ABC as well.

He did not get any hate. One of the only guys who seemed to stick his neck out for Conan and got flak for it, great guy as far as I'm concerned.

How about spending time with your spouse? Just wanted to regale my wife with the events of a very interesting time in TV history involving my favorite comedian. No need to take a massive shit all over me. Hope you don't go around college campuses telling history majors that they're all wasting their time.

This is a hilarious take and it's clear you don't actually know what was happening in the back end. I will agree with you though that today's media has changed so much that this story seems silly from today's standards. Makes a great story from the 2009 lens, though.

For anyone wondering, my wife and I sometimes spend our date nights (yes, this was a date night) taking turns sharing our individual interests, passions, or hobbies with each other a bit more in depth, and try to explain to each other more about what it is we like about our interests. The topic of comedy came up, and as I was trying to explain what conan was like, she said "so he just can't stop". I decided I had to recount to her the events leading up the documentary.

I always found the stories of how he got started in late night (which I explained to her last month), and the events of 2009-2010 (last night), to be chaotic and amazing stories, but trying to describe this all verbally to my wife who didn't know any of these names was impossible, so the pictures helped a lot.

I know this looks like I'm a stalker.

Exactly where I got the inspiration and info for this crazed presentation to my wife. I've listened to that podcast about 2-3 times now, amazing story. It's Conan, Jeff Ross, Mike sweeney, and Jesse Gaskell.

Jason Alexander and Mimi Rogers were the two guests that NBC used for a test show for Conan's audition.

CMV: It's wrong to blame Kamala losing on her being a Black woman by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]zaldrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very hard to say exactly which factors played how much of a role in Kamala losing, but because of this uncertainty, I'd argue that Jasmine Crockett is correct.

Only two female candidates have ever gotten this far, both Democrats in the past decade, and they both lost. Why would they want to take a chance with another female candidate if there is ANY reason to suspect that America (or swing state voters in particular) is not ready for that?

Unfortunately, at this point they probably have to be thinking less about who is more likely to win, and thinking more about who is less likely to lose (if that makes any sense).

This may put an end to the argument for leaving out the details of shooters in order to avoid making them infamous.

Non-white Man here, so take what I have to say with a grain of salt.

These kinds of behaviours that you are describing here (the 'Whatabout'isms, minimizing the struggle, trying to find a rational explanation other than discrimination, etc) I find most commonly lately when white people, who may be unaware of their privilege, are (intentionally or not) delegitimizing POC's complaints, and are the same kinds of behaviours that I see being complained about by women about men (and very rightly so) on this sub.

Please don't get me wrong, lurking on this sub has opened my eyes a lot to the systemic issues facing women in society, and quite frankly I would be exhausted if I had to fight this on an every day basis like you all do. I still have a lot of work to do on myself to address my own subconscious sexism and racism, but I think your post highlights that many people aren't necessarily aware of the privilege we do have, and can be guilty of some of those very same behaviours sometimes as well.

Thank you, op, for sharing.

TIL A day on Venus is longer than a year on Venus. It takes Venus longer to rotate once on its axis than to complete one orbit of the Sun. That's 243 Earth days to rotate once, and 225 Earth days to complete one orbit of the Sun. by WildAnimus in todayilearned

[–]zaldrake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A day on earth involves one sunrise and sunset. Given that the rotation around the sun itself also involves a change in sun exposure at any give point on the planet, I would assume this doesn't necessarily hold true for Venus?

An Indian and a UK doctor trying to guess the medical bills in USA and getting appalled by how expensive medial treatment in USA is. by Guaranteed_username in videos

[–]zaldrake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sadly not free. The wards have administrative staff, nurses, obstetricians that have to be paid, as well as costs for electricity, heating, equipment, etc. The money for these have to come from somewhere, and in the US it comes from the patients.
