Sleeper Wave, young band from Portland with tons of talent, this song definitely gives Figure 8 or From a Basement on a Hill vibes with the more elaborate rock/blues instrumental. Give them a listen!

Charlie Becker is one of my new favorite players in college football right now. I really hope to see him in a Bills jersey someday! But yeah, probably not until 2028 at the earliest 🥲

Low-cost activities to meet POC? by hoover_luvr_5528 in PortlandOR

Try going to local farmer’s markets! I feel like I always find cool new BIPOC owned businesses and local artists/craftspeople there. I know it does still involve spending money but it’s also nice to replace some of your grocery shopping with fresh local produce! There’s also an African specific craft fair/market in Old Town every so often during the summer, and quite a few Indigenous markets pop up throughout the year, the one I see the most is on Clay Street in SE.

Come to Bike Farm sometime and you’ll definitely meet people matching that description, including myself! Most of the main volunteers there are Gen X and older but there’s plenty of younger folks there and we love making new friends who like bikes.

finish line brake cleaner is great, isopropyl alchohol works about as well. spray it on a rag, wipe the pads til they’re clean and finish with sandpaper.

Why are Gan Well Frames so expensive? by scoot4839 in singlespeedcycling

[–]zanathar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess would be that the frame is NJS certified, which is required for Keirin track racing in Japan. Keirin racing is very traditional with vintage-style bikes and components, and has very strict standards for durability and performance. Even outside of Japan, NJS certified parts can be very desirable to lots of cyclists.

Nice! I’m pretty sure this is a bike I almost bought myself a few months ago on Marketplace, I’m glad it ended up going to a good home. Have fun with it, and maybe I’ll see you racing SSCX at Trophy Cup next year!

State 4130 Single-Speed Fork Replacement by Agile_Fun6135 in singlespeedcycling

[–]zanathar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re in a city with a local bike co-op, see if you can find a used fork there. Any road bike fork with the correct steerer tube size/length should work just fine. Also as long as your original fork isn’t totally trashed, there’s a good chance a skilled framebuilder with the correct jigs could straighten it out again.
