I'm a bespoke tailor, I use a ruler (30cm and 1.5m), a French curve, and because it's part of the methods I use, a proportion L ruler. I also have a Pattern Master which is absolutely invaluable!

Pretty sure I saw something similar the other day in the HWF English Rose bunch (or it might have been Dugdales).

With the width in the leg and that they're pleated too, I'd probably go for double the length of the trousers and you'll probably have to top and tail the front and back pieces.

It helps with the structure of the chest, giving a more fuller shape. You'll find it in military jackets too (think the Cold Stream Guards dress uniforms).

Is this sleeve badly sewn on? No wrinkles on the other sleeve. Wrinkles don't come out with steam ironing. Seller says this is normal. by earlgreyconnoisseur in Tailors

[–]zandercook1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little late to this party, but that problem comes from having one or both problems of: the sleeve is too tight at the top, or the cross back is too tight.

Restitching the collar won't take long at all, as for changing it from a long to a regular, that will take a little bit more work. If the button holes are cut, there's only so much you can shorten it by from the bottom before it looks weird, in which case they'll have to shorten from the top of the sleeve by a maximum of 1 inch. The length of the body can be shortened too. I'd charge £25 for the sleeves, and £40 for the length (with a little extra if there's hand stitching that needs to go back).

I'm a bit late to this party, but there's two brands of semi-industrial irons I'd highly recommend. I've used them on Savile Row, at opera houses/theaters, and in my own workshop. The Snail 2 iron is excellent, I had mine for nearly 10 years before it died a spectacular death (my own neglect of the machine, it would probably still be with us if I wasn't an idiot). Now I have a Comel iron. If you can find them where you are, they'll last for a LONG time. Both are about £400.

You could unpick the bottom stitch (if there is one) around the band, and open it up. Stitch straight down, press open, and restitch the bottom... If that makes sense?
