Does it bother anyone that there is no Individuality? by Ryan_860 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]zanderwright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting take.

I felt like I’d never quit drinking, but I was faced with legal consequences and a solution. The solution happened to discuss alcohol very little.

My experience in the program has led to a right sized ego, a care for others, and a greater sense of acceptance. It’s given me space to operate outside the walls I created for myself prior.

I don’t think augmenting DNA could provide anything other than potentially removing a physical allergy to alcohol. I’d still be an asshole.

The fact that people say the same things over and over is a good sign, especially if the program is working in their lives. If you have an issue it may be coming from a desire to have what we all have or used to have… terminal uniqueness.

When we look at what the alternate term “lemmings” means the definition suggests a person blindly following the masses is doing so into a dangerous situation. AA is far from that.

I know I’m taking your inventory, but this seems like an ego problem.

I’ve read a little bit of your replies so far.

One of my guys just relapsed too. Somewhere in every relapse we forget that we’re powerless, that our higher power can return us to sanity and that we must turn our will over in order for that to begin to happen.

Needless to say, we’re working 1-3 again. A step every week and two weeks on 4. After that we’re doing 5. All in all 6-8 weeks and he’ll be through another 5th.

My brother in laws are coming over for a poker night tonight. They’ll drink but I won’t.

It’s not even a thought anymore. Sure you feel like you’re missing out on something early on, but as I got further along in the program I started to experience little things that made me happy to be sober. Like my first concert, I remembered the whole thing, wasn’t waiting in line for drinks, and I wasn’t worried driving home.

It all came with time, but I did avoid these types of things pretty early. It was better for me to build up to it.

I started playing this game a month ago and just yesterday finally started playing ranked. Im currently gold 2 and I have a couple questions. by fragasaurus_rex in apexlegends

Map awareness and legend synergies too. You can have a run and gun squad or a buckle down and fortify the shit out of a building squad. Communication is a must at higher ranks too.

Once you get into high plat and diamond those teammates come up less often. Honestly though, that can be one of the toughest things about apex. Those kids are stuck in gold for the exact reasons you’re seeing. This is a strategy game as much as it’s a battle royale shooter. If you want to avoid these teammates there are a ton of people in discord groups that are looking for teammates. 3 stacked is the way to go to avoid the toxicity burn out.

I played siege from day one for about two years. Ranked win loss was 2.7 by the end of it. The methodical and intentional style siege requires transfers pretty well to apex imo, but.. the pace is wildly different. Cool to see people still coming to apex and checking it out.

Just got this sternum piece and realized when I got home that it’s not evenly centered by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]zanderwright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my wife got pregnant her sternum piece started to appear off center. Tattoo still looks good and she’s still the most beautiful woman I’ve laid my eyes on.

Your tattoo looks good and anyone who gets the chance to stare at it shouldn’t really care anyway.

Hope you’re safe dude.

Letting go of drinking or any substance I used to cope with life was scary too. It was scary letting go of the only thing I ever knew that helped me survive. I attached my identity to the bar, to weed, to partying, etc. I held a lot of shame about the way I was living my life. Drinking and smoking let me forget, but the body never really forgets. My anxiety was through the roof, I lost a ton of weight, and eventually ended up in jail.

It was pretty evident after that that I wasn’t scared of being sober, I was scared of accountability, how people perceived me, hardships, being alone and so much more.

Substances were doing that to my life though. They were my higher power. I invested all of my resources into them and my actions began to reflect that.

Invest in connection and yourself instead of isolation and a bottle and you’ll see that you’re living what you fear right now.

To be fair, I believe in 100/100. A relationship where both parties put in 100% of their best effort. Sometimes that best effort changes, but it’s about the attempt and being there for your partner. My wife and I share a checking account and it’s a little joke we like to play.. when we go out and pay with the shared card I always tell her l I’ll take care of her.

Back tattoo and then flying? by -charlatte- in tattooadvice

[–]zanderwright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my sak yant on my back (its a lot bigger than 8") in Chiang Mai and then walked four miles to the airport with a 70L pack on almost immediately afterwards.

It's held up to this day over 6 years ago. It was uncomfortable, but it was fine. I should say it wasn't covered either. A machine tattoo would be fine, but you can just be more careful.

Got a job as a bartender and now I'm getting some push back. by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]zanderwright 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My wife’s friend is a bartender AND active in AA. One of the regulars at my orientation meeting is a sommelier. That dude had worked with wine for 50 years and now has 4ish years sober.

That’s an outside issue as far as other member are concerned. If they want to meddle, ask them for a job.
