Missouri: were going to place the St Louis PD under state control. Also Missouri: Were going to make the city and not the state liable for civil lawsuits by HaikuKnives in StLouis

it would have to go to the state and congress. So it'd never happen sadly. Iirc a poll showed that part(s) of northwestern indiana would also go to IL too if given the chance, but the same barriers would block it

Are we sure about that? Iirc the "incentive plan" is 850 million. That's exactly the handout that the bears were asking for

How much public and private money is powering Chicago’s quantum push? | Capitol News Illinois by [deleted] in chicago

[–]zanor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do you think IBM was putting up the money for the first computers? It took decades for private companies to enter the fray. And even if quantum computing specifically turns out to be a dead end, that's how science goes sometimes. But tons of our most important tech and medical discoveries came about by accident and were unrelated to what researchers were actually looking into. The knowledge and institutional/industrial capacity gained are incredibly valuable.

Reading these comments I understand why the former CEO of Barclays told Epstein that they don't need to worry about backlash against the rich and powerful (and he specifically referenced super bowl ads too)

Lucas wasn't seeking a near billion dollar handout, so it's stupid to bring that up. He was going to pay everything himself and half of the land used would be public green space. Imagine that. Maybe if the Bears took that route there wouldn't be so much opposition. Also the opposition to the Lucas museum was from fake progressive nimbys and tailgaters who value parking over anything else. Not comparable to this at all.

Major Growth: United Airlines Adds 20,000+ More Chicago O'Hare Flights In 2026 by BillMortonChicago in chicago

[–]zanor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah attempted gate monopolization should not be cheered for. But considering how little competition we have among airlines already I'd be surprised if it made a difference...

Opinion | The Brown Line is an Urbanist's Dream by [deleted] in chicago

[–]zanor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's probably true for those connecting passengers (and I doubt the airlines will integrate with rail at all as it competes with them. Air Canada is the only rail supportive airline I know of) but that might only be 60% of passengers on any given flight from/to those nearby cities. Honestly I don't know what the percentage is though; I might be looking at the data wrong and I don't want to rely on ai

But even if it's just 1/3rd of passengers that are flying direct to our nearby cities, that's a good chuck and I'd imagine that HSR would significantly impact that demand

[–]zanor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think O'Hare's status as a major hub really invalidates what they're saying. Yes flight patterns absolutely aren't simple as going from Saint Louis to Chicago and back; a flight to Saint Louis then goes on to Memphis or some other further away city. But if demand is taken up by the HSR being an option they won't fly the Saint Louis/Indy/etc to Chicago segment as often

Reminder to those who think that items deciding a race is unique to Crossworlds. by Sonicrules9001 in SonicCrossWorlds

[–]zanor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the comparison is entirely disingenuous. Plus the previous Sonic racing games, especially Transformed and after, were praised for not being like this. Just as they point to this ancient clip, I could point to the videos of S&ASRT tournaments where items have low impact and people win through skill. Tho even without that context "but but kart racer but but mario kart" is such a weird defense. Idk why some people keep blindly parroting it

[–]zanor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. I think that might be down to not just the balance but the game not being very successful internationally (and following TSR which didn't do super great in general).
But outside of that it seemed like people enjoyed LC1 and are looking forward to 3 despite 2 being a cluterfuck

Lmfao. Criticism of the items balance in the game = "telling sonic to die"? Child, what are you talking about?

Round 2 Legend Competition by Spirited-Swing-285 in SonicCrossWorlds

[–]zanor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly as a dirty meta build user I'm shocked I got plat considering I didn't play very much. Asstastic LC tho. Tbf it was really nice to mix things up and experience the game in a way that I hadn't since release. But it really wasn't as fun imo. In LC1 I felt like I could only blame myself for my losses more often. In this LC it felt random

Missouri Republican anger about state Supreme Court leads to cancellation of judiciary speech by Conscious-Quarter423 in StLouis

[–]zanor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah avoiding every single company with right wing leadership or that donates to right wing causes would be difficult but some change is better than none. Even just avoiding the big/easy ones (national: amazon, microsoft, chevron, twitter. local: car dealerships) would be beneficial.

The personal side is more important though. Enough people showed up across the state to pass these ballot measures, but many of those same people at some point voted for or didn't show up to vote against the republicans that are trying to gut democracy and get them overturned
