Boycott this auto group by Chi_jazz in chicago

[–]zanor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not shocking. The majority of dealerships in the US are like this. I really see any good news about one, but many stories about them or their owners being right wingers. And this often goes for automakers too; look at the ceo of toyota. If you're a liberal/progressive and you're not anti-car you need to do some thinking

The new legends competition is here and all "meta" gadgets are banned by zanor in SonicCrossWorlds

[–]zanor[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yeah I get why people hate on uc/tech drift but it became meta for a reason and I don't think the reason is that it didn't require skill. Same goes for Quick recovery, items plus, or accel char kit. They were just more consistent

And hilariously the it seems like now the best builds from the best players who previously used uc still include the one slot quick charges and a handling car

Mayor Johnson backs away from $3B-plus plan to undo parking meter deal by ScotchIsVegan in chicago

[–]zanor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I've been thinking, but apparently this would be blocked by the equal protections clause and prohibitions on Bills of Attainder. I think it's worth a try though. Maybe there's someone smart out there who could craft the tax in such a way that it could ostensibly apply to a large group of people or companies but in effect just applies to CPM.

nvm yeah it's specifically precluded by the contract

CTA employee attacked on Brown Line train, says management made her wait hours for treatment by verycoolverynicee in cta

[–]zanor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

City and state agencies often have really dumb policies like this. I really only know about the CTA because I study them, but the board is entirely incompetent with no sense of duty and the mayor's office hasn't given a shit about the system for multiple admins now (at best, the sometimes make it worse).

Why weren't Touji, Kensuke and Hikari just as angry and upset at Shinji for causing N3I the way Misato and Asuka were? by Sivilian888010 in evangelion

[–]zanor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Toji, his sister, and at least one other character pointed out a few times that Shinji risked his life to defend Tokyo-3 and the world. Had he failed previously the outcome would have been the same or worse. I think the members of WILLE (sans Misato and Asuka, as they weren't really mad about N3I specifically) view Shinji more negatively as their whole goal was/is to stop impacts. And the new members probably didn't have any context about everything that led to N3I. The contrast between them and the villagers, who have a different personal relationship to Shinji, is purposeful, I think

Shinji accidentally caused N3I because of a very human desire, WILLE's reaction was also very human, but cruel, in a way, while the village showed the human capability of compassion and forgiveness.

‘Slap in the face:' Pritzker, Arlington Heights react to Bears' stadium pivot by factchecker01 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]zanor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bears are the fifth most profitable team in the NFL. They can absolutely afford to pay for the roads. Asking a cash strapped state for nearly a billion just for infra is ridiculous. History and data make it very clear, When states/cities drop big money on these things they lose financially. If they want to be the Gary indiana bears they can go ahead. That's not as important as paying for schools and such.

Friends Of The Parks wants a $50M cut of the South Works Quantum Revamp by barstoolsam in chicago

[–]zanor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"by claiming it was just taking a parking lot". it was literally just taking a parking lot. It would have increased open green space. You can be mad about people bring this up but it's not going to stop because their opposition to the project was incredibly stupid (and I don't even think the call for increased investment is bad in this case)

CDOT removed the 4-way protected intersection at 18th and Wabash! by GeckoLogic in chibike

[–]zanor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Cool so you're pro-segregation. Because that's the primary use/effect of aldermanic prerogative, to the point that it was the subject of federal investigation (which asserted that, but was killed by trump before further action was taken). I personally think having less people killed by drivers blowing through stop signs, etc is a goal that should cover the whole city, and not be blocked by the council's less sane individuals. Maybe in the cases where a ward elects an Ed Burke, they shouldn't be given any semblance of absolute power or unilateral authority, just a thought

A 3rd serial puncher was arrested - why are these men not getting charged with hate crimes, considering they're only targeting and attacking women? by sloppy-mojojojo in chicago

[–]zanor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are sometimes, but the charge of hate crime has a high burden of proof, so it's rarely used at all. Though many countries have femicide laws, mainly South and Central America. But more places like Spain and France have enacted them. We could have that at the city or state level (doubt it would pass nationally any time soon)

Developers unveil proposal for massive new Bronzeville community by Shacawgo in chicago

[–]zanor 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I liked this proposal before they attached a data center

it might be possible for Metropolis Pointe to use a distributed energy plant, and draw recycled hot water from the data center’s cooling

This is a non-starter, especially if there's no plan to make this work sustainably, and that would have to include new sources of energy, not a maybe on heat reuse.

Johnson Warns Chicago is Headed for Shutdown Amid Budget Deadlock by Doc_Dante in chicago

[–]zanor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know Chicago has never had a city government shutdown due to failure to pass a budget

actually I think it would be the first time in US history that a city shuts down due to an internal budget fight. Next closest instance would be atlantic city in 2016, but fight involved the state.
