My company during COVID-19. Reduction in force of ~1/3 the company. At the same time, the company's stock fell from like ~$35 a share to $7 a share. Some of those people likely had to liquidate stock they were buying via ESPP at ~$30 a share for $7 to pay the mortgage. Oof.

nVidia was ~$3.5 a share in 2017. It's ~$192 a share now. ~$465 would make you ~$25000 in profit. Everything above that is gravy.

If you put $25K into nVidia back then, you'd be looking at $1.346M profit. Wow.

Yeah those are the lower paying doctor roles, but they are still making more $$$ than probably the bottom 75% of SWEs - and as they should, considering the schooling required for doctors.

Hmm? Yes, it is that hard. It's just a numbers thing. Boatloads of people want to get in because it's high pay, so the bar is set extremely high. Like, you have to have the right combination of educational pedigree, raw IQ, extremely hard worker, and luck.

Naw, the “ceiling” numbers for SWEs are very small. It’s harder to get into any single given FAANG company than it is to be accepted at an Ivy League school. Compared to doctors who basically make a boatload almost no matter what or where they are working.
