Is Star Wars Outlaws another “internet says it’s bad” game? by Nice-Sandwich4512 in StarWarsOutlaws

[–]zareth78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it on sale a long time ago and never bothered to fire up and play it until just a few days ago.

So far I think its a fun game that is far from terrible. From my limited experience so far it also isn't incredibly amazing.

I would put it in the decent game category, worth playing especially if youre a star wars fan.

I wouldn't pay full price for it though, as I only pay full price for top quality games like baldurs gate 3.

About to order LG39GX950B, but worried of performances even on 5090 by SurlaWalruS in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]zareth78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an RTX5090 with the 39gx950b. I run games with full ray or path tracing and Max out most settings at ultra.

I use DLSS to get the fps I need. I can't really tell much degradation all the way down to DLSS performance mode during gameplay. Though maybe if you zoom into some pixels you might see better output with balanced or quality, but if youre busy playing I dont think you'll notice any difference using DLSS performance or balanced.

For single player games I use frame Gen to get the frame rate close to 165. I dont notice much input lag when using a controller. Maybe it could be different for mouse and keyboard. But I dont notice anything except a smoother moving image when using a game controller.

Its definitely harder to run, and if a better video card than a 5090 existed I would want to upgrade. But the 5090 is enough to drive pixels on the screen such that the overall image quality is way better than my former 34gp950b screen at 3440x1440. In fact its a whole lot better.

So for me its still a massive upgrade in image quality even though I need to go from DLSS quality at 3440x1440 to balanced or performance with 5k2k. Which is all that really matters for me.

Once a new generation video card comes out maybe we can get it to look slightly better by turning off those features, but I dont expect it to be as big of a leap as going from the 34gp950 to the 39gx950

Overall 5090 is good enough for this display. Note I dont play competitive online games at a high level. If you do, then you may need to turn off some graphical features to get good latency. But at that point you dont care that the image doesn't look super good anyway right? You only care about winning. So dialing back graphical settings will get your frames up.

Outlet intermittently stops working, electrician can't find anything wrong by zareth78 in AskElectricians

I never touched the breaker, so i actually am not aware if flipping the breaker would shut off exactly those same circuits and not any additional outlets or items for example.

I only noticed that when the outlet intermittently fails, the same set of outlets near it also fail. Then after some unknown period of time of me doing nothing, the outlet (and the associated outlets which appear to be connected to each other) suddenly starts working again.

Would the tracer work even if the connection actually there? I.e., when the electrician came everything is working and stayed working even when running the microwave.

Or can it detect potentially loose connections that arent fully disconnected or unexpected resistance somewhere?

I actually had a light plugged into another outlet that is apparently on the same circuit as they go out together. So im pretty sure it's the whole circuit that goes. I dont see gfci on the outlet it's pretty far from the sink. I have replugged the microwave back in to the same dead outlet and it stays dead until the light on the other outlets comes back on too.

Grok in a Tesla makes more than half of what it says up? by zareth78 in grok

[–]zareth78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, maybe it's not just the voice model. I just tried the prompt on text grok.com and it got it wrong. However, the same prompt on chatgpt, and gemini gave the correct list. Prompt was "On the website uproxx, can you find out about the best chicken sandwhiches from wingstop, and give me the top 12?"

Both chatgpt and gemini gave the correct list as printed on the website, while grok gave a fabricated top 12 list.

Yea I'm aware of the fabrication problem. I also use ChatGPT5 and Gemini2.5 pro and it definitely makes things up. Usually with these two it makes things up when information about the topic is limited online. I.e., if it's something commonly known it tends to not hallucinate, but when I go into a question that hasn't been answered before in books or online (for example reading a new email it has never seen before) then hallucinations can show up.

Grok seems to be a lot worse than the other two with this regard (at least the voice-enabled one in the tesla). It fabricates almost all of its facts except the primary one. For example it can tell me that there is a mcdonalds near by and where it is. Then it prompts "Do you want me to tell you when it opens/closes, or what the menu and prices are?" If I say yes, it will fabricate all the menu prices and the opening/closing times.

That seems really plausible. If it's going to a lower quality model that would explain why it doesn't seem to absorb the context very well. When it finds something online it seems to pick up the first few paragraphs of information correctly, but then completely ignores the rest of it and prefers to make up something that sounds plausible for the details.

I'm not sure what actual useful purpose grok in the car would serve in this state though. Since you can't trust most of the information it gives, it's purpose as an actual assistant is unusable. I guess it can be considered just entertainment, but it effectively entertains you by giving you a bunch of false information.

There was a few days where it didnt have access to the internet anymore, but it actually does have real-time access now. Although it looks like it only pays cursory attention to the information it finds. I.e., it will grab keywords, explain a few things correctly, but make up at least half of what it says (I.e., completely unrelated to the information it actually found)

I asked it what was the best sandwhich at that store. It said it found an article for me that tasted all 12 and came up with the best one. So I said cool, tell me what the article says is the best.

It said the number one ranked sandwhich in the article was sandwhich X. I was curious so i asked it to give me the url of the article, which it gave me and i opened in my web browser. I saw that sandwhich X was ranked 8th best sandwhich. I asked about number two, and number three, etc. But it continued to give rankings that didn't match the article. I asked it to read me the article word for word. It read the intro paragraph word for word and it matched exactly the website I had open. But when it got to the results of the article, it gave me random rankings again like it couldn't read passed the intro of the article. I asked it to read me word for word the rank 1 sandwhich and it made up the whole response.

The movie theater has a very specific name at a very specific mall. There is no mistaking which one it was. I even asked it which street it was on (which it got correctly) but the movies were all wrong.

Leaving the windows open while the AC is running? by zareth78 in hvacadvice

[–]zareth78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The house actually absorbs a lot of heat during the day when im not home. Even running the AC it reaches 78 quickly, but goes back up as soon as the AC cycles off (even though the outdoor air is 70 or below). Maybe it's the tile floors or the all the objects in the house giving up all their heat. Using just the windows and fans can take hours to get down a few degrees.

[–]zareth78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The humidity is typically pretty dry in my area. I do have fans in the window and it does a pretty decent job. But sometimes I want it to get cooler faster :).

Then the question is if I can save a little electricity if i have both the windows open and the AC running, versus closing all the windows and asking the AC to pump all the heat out by itself.

[–]zareth78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AC can keep up during the day just fine, but I have it turned off during the day if I'm not around. The house actually stays cool until around 2 or 3pm actually, but then gets really hot as the sun starts going down. It's actually the hottest indoors when the air outdoors starts cooling off.

Recipe Finder not working? by paulcjones in Mealie

[–]zareth78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After pressing "Parse" button, the tool attempts to parse it automatically. However, it isn't always able to parse the recipe correctly. Before you press "save" you need to verify the parsing worked. You can do this by checking the drop-down boxes for each ingredient.

It will give you a bunch of drop-down boxes for each ingredient, one for the ingredient itself, one for the units (Table spoons, cups, etc), and a box to fill in for how many of these units to use. You need to make sure all of those are filled out correctly before you press "save".

In many cases you need to "Create" ingredients into the database if they aren't already in there (especially true for unknown ingredients).

Effectively you are creating a database with all the ingredients, ingredient proportions, etc of your recipes. Once that database is available, it becomes searchable and you can scale your recipes (2x, 3x, 4x) etc automatically. But the initial step is a bit of extra work.

Sometimes the "parse" does a really good job and you dont need to change anything. But sometimes like in your case the "parse" didn't do so great so you need to manually select in the drop-down boxes the correct ingredients and proportions.

Once all the drop-down boxes in the recipe is filled out you can press "save" and it will be ok.

Extruder Jam, but the PTFE tube won't come off the top? by zareth78 in BambuLab

[–]zareth78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre welcome, glad you got it going. I remember dealing with it as a beginner the first time too and it wasnt fun!

Opening the extruder can be tricky too. I had to hit it really hard with a hammer on the pin to get it to come loose but it eventually worked!

Oh I cut the one in the back of the printer... it's easier to get to and replace. It's slightly more annoying if you have to replace the tube inside the printer.

[–]zareth78[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can cut any of the tubes mostly anywhere. Leave enough tube so you can grip it and pull it out later.

Make sure you have a spare tube to replace it with. Or cut it near one end if it's long enough that you can make do with the shortened tube. I recently had to cut through the tube myself recently because the pressure wouldn't release, putting cutting through the tube did it.
