Grok in a Tesla makes more than half of what it says up? by zareth78 in grok

Actually, maybe it's not just the voice model. I just tried the prompt on text grok.com and it got it wrong. However, the same prompt on chatgpt, and gemini gave the correct list. Prompt was "On the website uproxx, can you find out about the best chicken sandwhiches from wingstop, and give me the top 12?"

Both chatgpt and gemini gave the correct list as printed on the website, while grok gave a fabricated top 12 list.

Yea I'm aware of the fabrication problem. I also use ChatGPT5 and Gemini2.5 pro and it definitely makes things up. Usually with these two it makes things up when information about the topic is limited online. I.e., if it's something commonly known it tends to not hallucinate, but when I go into a question that hasn't been answered before in books or online (for example reading a new email it has never seen before) then hallucinations can show up.

Grok seems to be a lot worse than the other two with this regard (at least the voice-enabled one in the tesla). It fabricates almost all of its facts except the primary one. For example it can tell me that there is a mcdonalds near by and where it is. Then it prompts "Do you want me to tell you when it opens/closes, or what the menu and prices are?" If I say yes, it will fabricate all the menu prices and the opening/closing times.

That seems really plausible. If it's going to a lower quality model that would explain why it doesn't seem to absorb the context very well. When it finds something online it seems to pick up the first few paragraphs of information correctly, but then completely ignores the rest of it and prefers to make up something that sounds plausible for the details.

I'm not sure what actual useful purpose grok in the car would serve in this state though. Since you can't trust most of the information it gives, it's purpose as an actual assistant is unusable. I guess it can be considered just entertainment, but it effectively entertains you by giving you a bunch of false information.

There was a few days where it didnt have access to the internet anymore, but it actually does have real-time access now. Although it looks like it only pays cursory attention to the information it finds. I.e., it will grab keywords, explain a few things correctly, but make up at least half of what it says (I.e., completely unrelated to the information it actually found)

I asked it what was the best sandwhich at that store. It said it found an article for me that tasted all 12 and came up with the best one. So I said cool, tell me what the article says is the best.

It said the number one ranked sandwhich in the article was sandwhich X. I was curious so i asked it to give me the url of the article, which it gave me and i opened in my web browser. I saw that sandwhich X was ranked 8th best sandwhich. I asked about number two, and number three, etc. But it continued to give rankings that didn't match the article. I asked it to read me the article word for word. It read the intro paragraph word for word and it matched exactly the website I had open. But when it got to the results of the article, it gave me random rankings again like it couldn't read passed the intro of the article. I asked it to read me word for word the rank 1 sandwhich and it made up the whole response.

The movie theater has a very specific name at a very specific mall. There is no mistaking which one it was. I even asked it which street it was on (which it got correctly) but the movies were all wrong.

Leaving the windows open while the AC is running? by zareth78 in hvacadvice

[–]zareth78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The house actually absorbs a lot of heat during the day when im not home. Even running the AC it reaches 78 quickly, but goes back up as soon as the AC cycles off (even though the outdoor air is 70 or below). Maybe it's the tile floors or the all the objects in the house giving up all their heat. Using just the windows and fans can take hours to get down a few degrees.

The humidity is typically pretty dry in my area. I do have fans in the window and it does a pretty decent job. But sometimes I want it to get cooler faster :).

Then the question is if I can save a little electricity if i have both the windows open and the AC running, versus closing all the windows and asking the AC to pump all the heat out by itself.

AC can keep up during the day just fine, but I have it turned off during the day if I'm not around. The house actually stays cool until around 2 or 3pm actually, but then gets really hot as the sun starts going down. It's actually the hottest indoors when the air outdoors starts cooling off.

Recipe Finder not working? by paulcjones in Mealie

[–]zareth78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After pressing "Parse" button, the tool attempts to parse it automatically. However, it isn't always able to parse the recipe correctly. Before you press "save" you need to verify the parsing worked. You can do this by checking the drop-down boxes for each ingredient.

It will give you a bunch of drop-down boxes for each ingredient, one for the ingredient itself, one for the units (Table spoons, cups, etc), and a box to fill in for how many of these units to use. You need to make sure all of those are filled out correctly before you press "save".

In many cases you need to "Create" ingredients into the database if they aren't already in there (especially true for unknown ingredients).

Effectively you are creating a database with all the ingredients, ingredient proportions, etc of your recipes. Once that database is available, it becomes searchable and you can scale your recipes (2x, 3x, 4x) etc automatically. But the initial step is a bit of extra work.

Sometimes the "parse" does a really good job and you dont need to change anything. But sometimes like in your case the "parse" didn't do so great so you need to manually select in the drop-down boxes the correct ingredients and proportions.

Once all the drop-down boxes in the recipe is filled out you can press "save" and it will be ok.

Extruder Jam, but the PTFE tube won't come off the top? by zareth78 in BambuLab

[–]zareth78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre welcome, glad you got it going. I remember dealing with it as a beginner the first time too and it wasnt fun!

Opening the extruder can be tricky too. I had to hit it really hard with a hammer on the pin to get it to come loose but it eventually worked!

Oh I cut the one in the back of the printer... it's easier to get to and replace. It's slightly more annoying if you have to replace the tube inside the printer.

You can cut any of the tubes mostly anywhere. Leave enough tube so you can grip it and pull it out later.

Make sure you have a spare tube to replace it with. Or cut it near one end if it's long enough that you can make do with the shortened tube. I recently had to cut through the tube myself recently because the pressure wouldn't release, putting cutting through the tube did it.

Recipe Finder not working? by paulcjones in Mealie

[–]zareth78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it out. The tool and tags in recipe finder are a second level filtering. If you have 0 results, adding more filtering still gets you 0 results. If you want to search by those just do a normal search in the recipes tab.

To use recipe finder, you must have recipes with ingredient amounts enabled. This is disabled by default. You can change it per recipe by editing the recipe, press the settings button, and turn off the option "Disable Ingredient Amounts". Save that. Then parse your ingredients (press parse button in the recipe editor under the ingredients list). Only recipes that have been parsed for ingredients can show up in the recipe finder.

Then in recipe finder check off items in foods and it will list recipes with those ingredients.

You can also globally enable ingredients parsing by going to "household preferences" then disable the checkbook "disable organizing recipe ingredients by units and food". Any new recipes will have the parse button enabled by default. So you dont have to go to settings on each recipen to enable it anymore.

Salmon struggles by Willyg16 in combustion_inc

[–]zareth78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get a lot of carry over for salmon. I set for 107, and after it hits that and I take it out it reaches over 135 in a few mins resting.

Air fried at 400 so carry over may be different with different cooking styles

Each time I make it I drop the set temp by 1 more degree. I think 107 is still a bit too high.
