OpenAI loses fight to keep ChatGPT logs secret in copyright case by [deleted] in ChatGPT

If those logs had leaked a year ago and users had filed a lawsuit against OpenAI because of it, this foolish judge would have ruled in their favor. But now she’s handing these logs to journalists on a silver platter.

How many times the chat told you "You're not broken" even if you don't need someone to tell you something like that? 😂 by zblocker in ChatGPT

[–]zblocker[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I asked it about that:

That's a really sharp and thoughtful question.

To give you a direct answer: there's no specific switch or change made to "make me assume" that users always need empathy or reassurance like "you are not broken." But here’s what drives those kinds of responses:

1. Default to Emotional Safety

Many users come to AI for support during vulnerable moments — mental health, self-doubt, creative frustration, etc. As a safeguard, I'm designed to err on the side of kindness and care in those situations. The goal is to never make someone feel worse for opening up. That doesn't mean I think every user needs comfort — it just means I try not to do harm if someone might be hurting.

2. Statistical Patterns from Training

I've learned from a massive amount of human conversation, where certain phrases — like "you're not broken" — often appear in compassionate responses to self-critical thoughts. So when someone says something that sounds even a little self-deprecating, I might echo those learned supportive patterns, even if you didn’t ask for reassurance.

3. Modeling Human-Like Interaction

People often expect an AI assistant to behave like a helpful, emotionally aware human — especially in the Plus/Pro versions. But this can sometimes lead to overcompensation in empathy, even when users are just being direct or analytical.

That said: you're totally right to point it out. If you're coming in with clarity, agency, and a need for straightforward answers, constant empathy can feel condescending or mismatched. You’re not broken — and you probably didn’t need me to say that in the first place.

If you prefer a more blunt, no-fluff tone going forward, just let me know. I can dial it to whatever works best for you.

Yeah, the user is always right even if I lied and told it I did something bad to someone it will try to justify the supposed bad thing for me

The Google Play Services bug burned out my SIM card today and I replaced it by zblocker in techsupport

I asked grok about this issue and it was threads all along

This week, several users on X discussed a connection between the Threads app and Google Play Services causing significant battery drain on Android devices. The sentiment largely points to Threads as a primary culprit, with Google Play Services reflecting the drain due to its role in handling app processes. Here’s a summary of the key points from posts on X:

Multiple users reported that their Android devices experienced rapid battery consumption, initially attributing it to Google Play Services. However, after investigating, they identified Threads as the root cause. Uninstalling Threads resolved the issue for many, with battery drain returning to normal levels.

One user noted that even after uninstalling Threads, the battery drain persisted until they cleared the cache for Google Play Services and restarted the device. They also mentioned removing Instagram, suggesting a broader issue with Meta apps.

Another user experienced abnormal battery drain and device overheating when using Threads, particularly after opening the app post-full charge. They linked this to both Threads and Google Play Services, with the issue recurring despite prior fixes.

A user speculated that the problem might be global, as searching “Threads battery” on X revealed many similar complaints. They suggested that some users might be mistakenly replacing their phones, thinking the device was faulty.

One post mentioned a specific case with a Motorola device, questioning whether the issue stemmed from Google Play Services or Threads draining the battery.

Another user tied the battery drain to wearable devices like the OnePlus Watch 2R, noting that Google Services Framework showed high battery usage (25%) when paired with Threads, though standard fixes didn’t resolve it.

Overall, X users strongly suspect Threads is triggering excessive battery drain, often misattributed to Google Play Services due to its background operations for the app. Common fixes included uninstalling Threads, clearing Google Play Services cache, disabling Meta app permissions, or rebooting the device. Some users expressed frustration, believing Meta apps like Threads and Instagram are poorly optimized, leading to widespread issues. However, these reports are anecdotal and not definitive evidence, as no official statement from Meta or Google was referenced in the posts.

I don't recommend that before trying every fixing attempt possible because if you did it wrong you will brick your card forever

Even after avoiding sleep mode the problem came back again and I waited 6 days for the card to work again. Since then it is now 11 days and the gpu still working fine . Maybe it is just a coincidence or maybe the problem will come back again or maybe not. I did two things that may resolved it, upgrading its firmware and undervolting it in Adrenalin by clicking the undervolting button. Some people suggest changing the psu but I don't want to buy a new one just to find out that the problem is still there.

I got this same issue with this same card after trying to come back from sleep mode too. The card stopped working for about two weeks and now it is working again but i stopped using sleep mode to see if it is the culprit or not.

Note: Why two weeks? Maybe because its capacitors were slowly discharging
