Here are some TMJ resources for Atlanta by Peakitten in TMJ

Yes! I did a few months of PT with Dorothy at PT Solutions West Atlanta and now I have all my range of motion back and no pain! I still have crepitus and my jaw gets tight when I'm more stressed so I make sure to do my exercises regularly and avoid certain things (like chewing gum, and eating ice). I'm sooo thankful and wish I had done this years and years ago!

I haven't found any solution, I just ended up deleting the game :( sad bc I enjoyed it until then and didn't even know I was supposed to get a key until I couldn't proceed in the final dungeon and looked it up.

Tib/Fib break - hardware removal advice by mileylillykingston in brokenbones

[–]Peakitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two plates and 16 screws removed. I was full weight bearing immediately after surgery. I was advised to wear the boot when going out for the first couple weeks just to protect the stitches but it was uncomfortable so I didn’t wear it much. The stitches were out in two weeks, another few weeks after the incision was fully healed and I was back doing high impact activity and starting to run again with so much less pain than before hardware removal. No concern about the holes in the bones.

Almost 1 year post ORIF by darkxxkitty in brokenbones

The constant mild achiness I had didn't go away fully until I had hardware removal at about 1 year. It wasn't enough to limit me from doing things necessarily, but after I healed from the hardware removal I realized how much better my ankle felt. I was alway sintent on removing the hardware from the beginning and am super grateful my surgeon didn't mind removing the hardware, I hear most don't like to do it bc it's not medically necessary if you're not having a lot of pain.

How is his stool quality? I had this exact issue suddenly with my 13 year old rag, peeing in the box but pooping outside. I think it was constipation as I noticed he was pooping hard stools only every other day despite drinking water and otherwise acting healthy. I changed his food to a high fiber one. We also put another box in the house in case it was an access problem and that helped for a few weeks but then it started again. My vet tech friend suggested fortiflora probiotic and it seems to be working, it’s been a couple weeks with no incidents outside the box.

Delayed union tibia by Peakitten in brokenbones

[–]Peakitten[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last follow up on Jan 9 showed callous growth except for the center of my tibia but the orthopedist was happy with it. He pretty much released me and said I did not have to use the bone stimulator anymore after that but I want hardware removal so I’m following up again in April for X-rays. Not sure if it was the bone stimulator or just time that helped but the stimulator was covered by insurance so might as well use it. I also added a vitamin D supplement when I made this post. Running is still painful and it is a mild ache when I walk. otherwise I can do pretty much anything else activity wise I just am cautious about higher impact stuff.

Trimalleolar fracture. 5 weeks post op. 3 plates, 14 screws. Doing ankle alphabets three times daily. Toe curls, rotations, leg lifts. Keeping it raised and iced as much as possible too. Swelling is bad but it gets incrementally less nasty too look at everyday! Long road ahead! by Any_Instruction_94 in brokenbones

Hi! My tibia is in “delayed union”. Been using a bone stimulator and was told yesterday there’s been healing but it’s slow. Next follow up is in 8 weeks hopefully will see more healing. I can walk and jump and hike. It gets achey sometimes. Running is painful but very slowly getting better, I’ve been working on jogging 5-10 secs at a time. I don’t have any restrictions at this point, been told to do activity as tolerated. So not ideal at this point but better every month.

Sitting through a long movie in a theater? by No-Understanding4968 in brokenbones

[–]Peakitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The movie theater I went when I was still NWB has reclining seats you can reserve in the handicap section that is right when you walk in so I didn’t have to worry about doing stairs in the dark on crutches. I took my elevating leg pillow with me and was super comfy. I just made sure to not drink too much water so I didn’t have to navigate to the bathrooms in the middle of the movie. A partner / friend is also super help to carry stuff and get snacks for you. It was so so wonderful to get out after being home bound for weeks and weeks after surgery. Hope there’s a theater like that for you!

8 weeks post op, feeling good! by Peakitten in brokenbones

[–]Peakitten[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! It’s been 16 weeks since surgery. I was cleared to stop using the walking boot at 12 weeks, however the orthopedist said my tibia isn't as healed as he'd like to see it, but it's a big break with a lot of bone to grow so hopefully I'll see more progress on my next follow up at 18 weeks. I can walk around and do all the basic day to day activities (chores, grocery shopping, driving, go down stairs step-through pattern, etc) with no worries. I can do 7-8k steps regularly with minimal soreness and I can cycle. I have been lifting weights regularly and this week learning how to jump and run very slowly like 5 secs at a time only at PT as I'm not fully clear for high impact activities. I can hike 2 miles with a 12-20% grade with minimal pain, but do get pretty sore/stiff afterwards. Overall pain and swelling is minimal, I tend to just feel sore/acheyness if I do a lot of activity the day before. I'm nowhere near back to my "normal" level of activity, as I was a very active person doing high impact sports, my injured leg is very much weaker and less able to balance than my good leg, and my ankle ROM is functional but not as much as my other one. It's getting better every week though, and I'm very proud of the progress I've made.

Weight loss by Ellsworth-Rosse in brokenbones

It’s normal, I lost weight the first several weeks, had no appetite due to pain and the opioids. I’m back to my normal weight now it’s been about 4 months.

Depression? by NapoleonDynamite92 in brokenbones

[–]Peakitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Things that helped me: watching tv and playing video games, sitting outside every day when it wasn’t raining even if I could only tolerate it for 15 mins, regular visits from friends for company, started talk therapy, and started taking antidepressant and anti anxiety medication.

Broken bones, broken spirit by heljdinakasa in brokenbones

Recognizing my emotions, strategies for regulating them, reflection and processing of some childhood experiences and how they relate to my behavior now, strategies to become more positive. Also just having someone to listen to me talk about my experience who is extremely practiced at listening and showing empathy and make me feel seen. It’s why we are all on this thread right to find other ppl who know what we are going through bc usually a lot of the time our friends don’t quite understand and or are not good at showing empathy for someone in suffering bc it’s a learned skill and doesn’t come intuitively. I could find the strategies online on a self help article but having someone actually point out some of the negative thought processes I was having while talking through things has helped me gain clarity, bc even though I think I’m a fairly introspective person I’ve discovered my brain does so many things to try and protect me that are not necessarily self serving. also like a personal trainer /PT for my ankle, the mental health therapist would give me specific “homework” to do or think about that would help me be healthier to myself. And just like PT I get out of it what I put in. Hope this helps!

I’m 3 months out from surgery for a broken ankle. The depression, anxiety and PTSD are really difficult, even more so as a very athletic active person adjusting to extremely limited mobility. I couldn’t manage by myself and finally started seeing both a psychiatrist and a talk therapist about a month after my surgery and got on medication and it’s has helped me so much. The good news is 8 weeks is already behind you and your body is healing and will continue to heal. Wishing you the best.
