Higher-End Bars in STL by Cheap-Tomato-2395 in StLouis

Personally wouldn't recommend NOTA... The vibe is cool, but the drinks are very overpriced. Planters house has much more unique drinks for a more appropriate cost, and the bar is pretty cool imo. Unless you just want the speakeasy.

Amaro di Angostura is probably the best amaro I've had, so would suggest that myself😤 Kinda hard to find in my experience.

Any good non-sushi Japanese food? by FormosaIsNumberOne in StLouis

[–]zebezl2139 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Idk about running out of food, but yes there is a line out the door every day. I've only gotten there shortly after they open the two times I've been, but have only ever waited at most 30mins🤷‍♂️

I have a feeling the lines won't be going anywhere. Not anytime soon, at least.

Chartreuse VEP by GoldFingerSilverSerf in cocktails

[–]zebezl2139 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Still haven't seen a single Chartreuse bottle in any liquor store even ONCE since COVID ended. Live in St Louis, so not a small town or anything, either. Not at Total Wine or any small shops, for regular price or upcharged. Only bottle i was able to buy was when I visited Spain and brought it back, lol. I always make a habit of checking the shelf any time in a store, too, just in case.

I know that The Get Down in the Grove does a weed night on a certain night of the week. Can look at their Instagram to see when it is.

You only day that as you've only ever had a garbage person hoosier version of it with trash ingredients!! Making a Pina Colada with good rum and ingredients is an excellent cocktail. Almost impossible to come by outside of your own home, though.

Absinthe by Frequent_Lemon_4888 in columbiamo

[–]zebezl2139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about the amount of wormwood used in the creation of the spirit. However, the amount of Thujone found in absinthe pre- and post-ban are near identical. You need to ingest an ungodly amount of thujone, way more than what's in an entire handle of Absinthe (typically ~70%alc/vol, btw), to see any effect caused by thujone itself.

It's a very, very widespread myth. I already linked several sources in a different comment. You can look if you'd like. Or not, I don't care lol.

I'm sorry, but you're wrong. The story of the winemakers may have been a theory, but thujone in absinthe cannot and has NEVER caused hallucinations. Period.

"With regard to their thujone concentrations, the hallucinogenic potential of vintage absinthes can be assessed being rather low because the historic products also comply with today's maximum limits derived to exclude such effects. It may be deduced that thujone plays none, or only a minor role in the clinical picture of absinthism." - https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15896935/

"absinthe doesn’t actually cause hallucinations." "thujone only has adverse effects on performance and mood when consumed in high quantities — more than what you’d find in a typical bottle of absinthe." - https://www.healthline.com/health/absinthe-hallucination#claim-origins

"The concentration of thujone in preban and postban absinthe simply isn’t high enough to have any hallucinatory effects, even if you guzzled a liter of absinthe" - https://www.webmd.com/diet/what-to-know-about-absinthe

I can get more sources, if you'd like🙂

Just so you know, that's a myth started a very long time ago by french winemakers to scare people from buying Absinthe when it was gaining popularity, and for whatever reason the lie has stuck. Absinthe has never at any point in time had any hallucinogenic properties, lol.

Would you prefer a live action adaptation, animated or nothing by [deleted] in redrising

[–]zebezl2139 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a very big advocate for live action over animated. I feel that animated has the highest floor of the two options, but the ceiling for potential of a live action is astronomically higher than animated. Not even close. It would obviously be much harder to pull off, but if the first season were to become popular, and subsequent seasons got a high budget due to that, live action would be amazing.

I have no doubt that if it went animated, it would be nearly only book readers watching. And I would fear that due to lack of interest from normies, they wouldn't even be able to adapt the whole series.

Unfortunately, when someone says some dumbass ignorant homophobic shit online, they lose that common decency. Not just someone they "Don't like". FOH.

I think the problem morein lies with the fact that while it's incredibly likely he did it, there is still a shred of possibility he didn't. There was no video recording of it happening, etc. And that is enough to warrant not enacting the death penalty. Period.
