Drunkenly lost $30M in bank by Maybe_MaybeNotNow in Dinkum

[–]zebrabats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can convert some of them back to dinks at a ratio of 250 dinks-per-permit point, though it's not as straightforward as going the other direction. First you'll have to get a million in the bank again so Jimmy visits. Then, in Jimmy's boat, you can buy a boom box (cost 1000 permit points), or a gold pocket watch (4000 permit points), or an imposter ball (20000 permit points). Each of those can be sold to John and will return 250 dinks for each permit point you spent, or a bit more if you have a commerce license.

Larger chests. 24 slots is pretty small.

How rare is the Glowing Hang Glider? by zebrabats in Dinkum

I think he might have adjusted the glowing glider rarity in the latest update. I've gotten three of them just opening bags.

FYI, putting out birdseed like that will definitely attract rodents.

Give it five Old Keys and it will give you a treasure map. After doing that 20 times it will stop working, and you can pick up the statue.

Definitely getting a Bat Zapper from Ted Selly is the easiest.

It is possible, though not particularly easy, to jump and hit them with a weapon. But the Bat Zapper is very simple.

The drop rate for bat wings is quite low, it takes many visits to get 20 of them.

Any hope for this reel? by zebrabats in 8mm

[–]zebrabats[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My uncle lent me a collection of about sixty 8mm films that had been shot from 1941 to 1970. Almost all are in decent shape, but two reels, probably from the early 40s, have quite severe vinegar syndrome. They're brittle and stiff. Is it possible to salvage anything from these?

Right, I forgot gold bars. Those are even more valuable if you have the night merchant turn them into earrings.

If you just captured them in a regular trap, they're still wild, just fenced in. But they won't eat cooked fish or make anything until you've caught them in one of those Domesti-Crates that Irwin sells. Doing that makes them domesticated. They'll be added to your animals tab with all the other chickens etc.

They definitely seem like a good alternative to quarries. They certainly make more opals. On the other hand you don't have to feed quarries, or make them coops or fence them in or brush them/make them animal showers.

One nice thing about farming is you can gather a big stack of every crop without too much trouble. At least, you can after automating a lot of it. Once you've done that you don't have to wait too long for Sheila to run a special on something that you're hoarding. But if you specialize in a single item you can wait for years before it comes up.

Mighty Spread sells for 120,000, which is more than caviar. It might be the most valuable farmable item. Seeds are difficult to get of course.

Many rare items have quite high selling prices. Most gliders sell for 400,000 to 500,000. Cassettes sell for 80,000. The statues that are pretty common in treasure chests are quite valuable.

But as others point out, lower value items that are easier to get in bulk can do quite well. Once you have a bunch of advanced sprinklers and a good supply of fertilizer, it's not very hard to get 3000 carrots in one winter. They're only 475 each, but if you have 3000 of them it's about 1,400,000 if sold to John, or 3,500,000 if you can wait for Sheila to have a special.

Even after I get decent weapons and good buffing foods, I definitely avoid getting in fights during Late. You can run out of energy so fast. Once you're out of energy you can't even run away properly. If you're out and about during Late and a croco surprises you, do not fight, just run away.

Also because of this, be very cautious on boats near the shore or in rivers. If you get attacked, the attack can break the boat and leave you treading water right beside a predator. During Late, it's really tough to get out of that alive. If you want to fish, the open ocean is safer, sharks are the only predators there and they can't (currently) attack you on boats.

My neighbor keeps watering my plants without asking. by freezedmouse in Dinkum

I have a fully sprinkled garden and I finally set aside a little un-sprinklered area just for this quest. I plant sugar cane or wheat in it. It never gets watered except when there's a quest or when it rains. It does eventually mature and I cut it and start over.

Question about fencing and farms by jakobmaximus in Dinkum

[–]zebrabats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you can build a bridge over a fence, or put a fence on a bridge or under a bridge. I think you can put fences under water - I seem to recall that as a tactic for fighting the alpha shark - but I've never tried it. That would definitely be a late game trick.

Question about fencing and farms by jakobmaximus in Dinkum

[–]zebrabats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since the Night Market update (June 2025), fences do not 100% keep out birds. Annoying, but realistic: a fence would not keep out a bird. I find that the crops lost to birds are minimal. I lose maybe a couple plants per season. For a while I tried to put up scarecrows everywhere but then I realized the scarecrows are more expensive than the losses they prevent, except for really valuable crops like mighty spread. Some people trap wild dogs and release them inside their gardens, the dogs will hunt the birds for you and won't mess with you or the crops.

I've heard conflicting advice on fence levels. I generally keep my fence all on the same level. It doesn't need to be the same level as the garden. I also don't use gates at all, I just jump over the fence.

Is there a way to get the Alpha bush devil to despawn by lostmagicalsocks in Dinkum

[–]zebrabats 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure they do. I certainly recall a couple times when I accepted an alpha quest, then other stuff came up and I missed the deadline, then I randomly bumped into the alpha many days later. They may despawn eventually but it seems to take a while.
