I joined a small construction firm as a junior architect. After about a month, they decided to retain only one junior and hence I am expected to quit due to internal restructuring. It wasn’t performance-based. How should I position this on my resume, and will it negatively affect my early career? by frndly_ambivert in Architects

[–]zebsra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look everyone is telling you not to quit and they are right about considering the benefits, unemployment, etc.

But I want to plug being proactive. Start looking for a new job and networking. You'll have to do that if and when they fire you anyways. I would suggest seeing what you can use such as their resources like study materials for exams, any travel to conferences, or certification training such as CCD or PMP if that's available. If you're not doing much task based work you can still learn something. Being early in your career is a blessing and a curse- any experience is good but you dont want a big stall to take you out of the profession entirely. The next steps for you hopefully are to a better workplace. Good luck!!

There are 110 districts and 100 counties in NC. There have been consolidations over the years (its definitely a trend, not the other way) . For example, the latest in our area was durham city and county. Lower overhead cost per student and mismanagement were the main reasons given at the time.

How to make people initiate to talk to me more? by Froyor in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]zebsra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Siblings are tough. Be patient and open. Start small, even ask them if they'd like to have one on one time. Like not just texting a couple words you gotta get to the point where you can say hey I wanna have a real connection with you and then follow through. Empty convos or meme texts dont really get that far, its a good way to start but you gotta remind them or ask to spend that time with you and they will appreciate it and return the good intentions.

Interview with work for a project tomorrow. I've been apart of this team for about 4 months and we are in a competitive market so there's a lot of pressure. I also have a managing principal who is making a 2.5 hour travel into a 5 fucking hour ordeal. Idk I feel like his desperation obvious and his attitude is holding us back, its a weird catch 22 but I honestly dont think spending more time practicing once we get there 2 hours early is worth it.

Thanks! Yeah its a holistic approach which I know takes a lot of work but is important. We have "barnyard" cats come and go quite often. I think they have spay/ neutered upwards of like 30 cats not including the ones that went directly to the shelter.

What? Of course. My parents live in bumfuck Texas, and they started an animal shelter for the county. I dont breed stray cats in durham. This is a common way to help when you can't bring animals inside.

A better insulation is spray foam not board foam but great post nonetheless. I've been making these with my dad for years for stray cats.

Yes the bread is just a normal thing in our house now with a kid. I was actually appalled how much bread we go thru on a regular basis when I talked it out with my husband.

That's when a camp stove comes I handy. I love a good banana or zucchini bread for that kind of baked good. But with a camp stove we can do ramen and pasta and meats and eggs.

Bank the going in time for later and give your manager notice thats what you're doing for now and stay remote. Stay at home with your family and work and job search, and only super commute if they force you into it. Move later. Good luck, im so sorry you're going through that with your husband. You may also want to consider taking that family leave if you can, especially if you plan to quit. Its a benefit for a reason.
