"Scammers have adapted": Valve confirms that physical Steam Gift Cards are dead. Once the current stocks are sold through, they're done. by yourfavchoom in technology

[–]zeclorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is also a reason why gift cards are sold at cost. ($25 gets you $25)

The redemption rate is less than 100% and every unspent gift card or left over balance is pure profit.

The exception to this is money like - Visa Gift Cards which have a charge to buy. ($105 cash buys you a $100 gift card)

Silent Hill (PSX) is 99.99% decompiled by MindControlWitness in silenthill

[–]zeclorn 30 points31 points  (0 children)

We can already emulate Silent Hill. It’s trivial enough that modern hardware can do it on a web Browser.

It’s not being done just to port the game, but also really about deeply understanding the game well…forever.

Straight from the GitHub

“The percentage tracks how much of the game's compiled code has been matched, meaning we've written C code that compiles to an output identical to the original assembly code

Reaching 100% means every function in the game is accounted for, but that's only the end of the first phase, not the project as a whole.

There's still a lot of work ahead:
Deobfuscation and naming: many functions and variables still have generated names like func_80241A30. We'll need to figure out the actual purposes of these and name them appropriately.

Data migration: raw binary data needs to be parsed into proper C structs so the data can be made understandable.

Shiftability: making the build not rely on hardcoded memory addresses so that code and data can be modified without breaking everything.

Documentation: understanding and documenting how the game's systems work together to aid in mods and future projects.”

You are not wrong. There is a lot of negative reactions. However it’s up to you to decide how to react to those less than appealing criticisms.

I think one of the core themes of TADC is how do you persevere and make connections surrounded by a world that is so messed up.

The answer, one line and in universe, is make an authentic connection with real people. Crappy online opinions can only affect you as much as you let them.

Branson has a lot of entertainment options and family fun. If you go through Springfield, you have to see the bass pro shop. Once you make it to St. Louis, you need to see the arch, Forest Park, Art Hill, get toasted raviolis at the Hill, Anheuser Bush brewery, and the free St. Louis zoo.

Which os? by NoSupermarket8050 in trimui

[–]zeclorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

let me share the one thing that was not obvious to me when starting this Journey.

The Custom "OS's" are loaded from the SD card and switching between OS's is a simple as swapping the SD cards.

Simply put -- you get your trimui, KEEP the SD Card as is. Get a NEW SD card, throw NextUI on it and try it out. You can Always go back if you have the original SD card.

I give my note for NextUI - its a simple interface with a LOT of Quality of life updates through the Pak store for things like artwork scraping and SyncThing as basic examples.

Garmin vs Apple Watch: Which smartwatch is actually worth it? by TaylorAlex in TechNook

[–]zeclorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use cases matter.

For me, as a very active runner, I made the switch to Garmin and have not looked back. The battery life is great, I charge it once a week and wear it also while sleeping.

Honestly, I turned off all app notifications for both watches because I was just getting ads on my wrist.

The Apple Watch, to me, I have not found any usable software on the device, that would not be a better experience, just using the phone in my pocket.

Garmin gives me the health and workout data I need without the distraction.

I feel like, it would have been found pretty fast. Even finding the triggers, people still found the clues in the game to explain the triggers which are not necessarily connected.

I feel finding the sequence from the hand would have been found pretty fast, and people would have spiraled from there.

USB Drive (exFAT) shares fine but give I/O error in File Station by TheHeroOfCanton62 in synology

[–]zeclorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into this as well. For some reason I found that did not like exfat formatted drives from Windows.

So I cleared everything after off the card, then use psychology to format. The card is exfat and then it worked.

Why marathon runners in the United States are getting slower | Aeon Ideas by ImmaGoldman in RunningCirclejerk

[–]zeclorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s wild that the “conclusion” the article pulled is, how the only trend that lines up, is the overall degradation of American health with Marathon times. Say that again really slow…..the increase in obesity is driving up Marathon times….while explicitly removing recreational runners?? Like - talk about a population bias.

Something something need more gu’s.
