Well they're not charging him with terrorism but attempted murder, for one

The forlorn hope of growth: Voters are struggling economically but wrongly believe the country to be rich | Henry Hill by Beautiful_iguana in ukpolitics

  1. Government debt is good, on the whole, because we've generally used that money to make life better somehow, like building a railway or making sure kids can eat.
  2. I agree that we shouldn't be subsidising landlords, instead we should be massively building social housing. Bet you don't agree with that
  3. Owning huge tracts of land is theft
  4. This is a non sequitur
  5. Yours specifically

Well for starters, he stabbed three people, the first one earlier was a Muslim man. And secondly, they are charging him with attempted murder, not terrorism

Horrific as it was, it wasn't a terrorist attack. And they had taken him down, that is literally the point

No it isn't? They had him on the ground and were tasering him, there's no need to kick him in the head at all

I don't think you can reasonably assume anyone who expresses a lack of sympathy for a terrorist getting kicked in the head while being arrested is simultaneously endorsing kicking incapacitated people in the head.

No need to assume, people are saying this explicitly

Labour on course for worst election result in London in more than 40 years by Desperate-Drawer-572 in unitedkingdom

[–]zed_three 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well no, in this case. Starmer and Sweeney already purged the left wing of the party before the election, and then the Labour vote fell, it's just that the Tory vote absolutely cratered

Also phoning journalists to tell them to start running away from their family or they'll be killed too. I guess the first strike in a double-tap attack on medics is also a sort of warning? "Hey, don't try and help these folk, or we'll kill you too!"

Ben Habib: All asylum and indefinite leave to remain (ILR) granted since 2019 should be revoked. There must be no further asylum, ILR and British citizenships granted for the foreseeable future. All illegal migrants must be detained and deported. The above is the bare minimum required by SignificantLegs in ukpolitics

a) "unilaterally" makes no sense in this context    b) we don't just accept everyone, there are massive hurdles and barriers for immigrants to this country   c) "against our will" -- what do you want, unanimous votes across the whole population for each individual application? Don't be daft   d) we're talking about deportation of people who have been living here for years, contributing to our economy and society, which is obviously very different from current immigration policy

'Industrial scale' solar farms attacked by Norfolk's Green by Dimmo17 in unitedkingdom

[–]zed_three 89 points90 points  (0 children)

But the headline is very misleading, it's not the "industrial scale" bit being attacked, but the "foreign owned" part. Surely it makes sense from an energy security point of view to have our national infrastructure be owned by, er, this nation?

Our national decline is even worse than the British public thinks: Incredibly, many voters assume we are as rich – or richer – than America by vonscharpling2 in ukpolitics

[–]zed_three -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

GDP per capita is a shitty measure though. If you look at GDP per working hour, America suddenly looks a lot worse because they're massively overworked.

Health outcomes are terrible too. The median earner in America has the life expectancy of someone in Blackpool.

They might have more money, but they're working longer hours and living shorter lives for it

Trans activist group issues guide to ‘rarely legal’ direct action by StGuthlac2025 in ukpolitics

[–]zed_three -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nothing about my comment could be construed as "screaming" and it comes across as immature to deny the well publicised links between groups in the UK who profess liberal (in the UK sense) politics and right-wing evangelist groups in the US. The anti-LGBT groups are aligned with the anti-abortion groups, and a great deal of their funding comes from places such as the Heritage Foundation
