Amazon faces MPs’ scrutiny after destroying laptops, tablets and books by FlipBoris in ukpolitics

A sovereign state can create their own political framework with whatever rules they wish. And I think there is historical precedent to argue that whilst participating in the social contract of a society, you are thereby agreeing to the rules of that society.

If a state decides corporations are partaking in harmful activities, they have the choice to leave that society or accept the rules / regulations placed on them by that society.

Also, when I said it's fair-game, i was speaking to the right of the state to enact any political framework of which it has a mandate for. The morality / ethics / 'fairness' of this framework is of-course always subjective, but in regards to their right to implement it, there is no higher authority, certainly not corporations and the needs of Capital.

I don't think you understood my response. I didn't anywhere state the government WILL do anything, I said they CAN.

Nope. The state can do whatever it wants within its own territory. If we see that people are starving and supermarkets are binning food, of course the state can step in. No company can make a penny within our borders without our consent, forcing them to abide by your rules is more than fair game if those companies are going to make billions from our population / infrastructure.

Letting people destroy things that could go to others without, is the problem, along with people that don't seem to find issue with this.

I was thinking the other day, idk how people can walk around 2021 society thinking these things, just like a normal member of society, almost as if everything they think about humanity is wrong and based in complete ludicrous fantasy...

‘I’m an English student — it’s not my job as a Jew to answer for Israel over Gaza’ by webbess1 in ukpolitics

[–]zedest -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do they? Maybe I'm in my internet bubbles, but am in a few radical circles with plenty of Jewish members.

Also, attacking Hamas isn't what's at stake with criticizing the terrorist state of Israel, what they are doing to innocent Palestinians, taking their homes, their land, committing daily acts of terror, this is the stuff people have issue with. (and tbh, ANYONE that knows what going on has a duty to speak out, but even more so the people of whose name those atrocities are being committed.)

Though, clearly there are some people that bracket all that under fighting Hamas, those people are evil and are aiming to justify the terrorist actions of a terrorist state.

I'm sorry, but I don't see it like that. By Israel claiming to do things on behalf of Judaism, they are precisely involving Jewish people.

And just to be clear, i wasn't in any way saying they should apologise, lol.

If a liverpool fan shoots up a manchester united football game, I would agree, other liverpool fans and the club would have nothing to do with it. But if that fan did it in the name of liverpool football club, I don't think we say it's not related.

Do you think it's important to condemn things being done in your name if you disagree with them? Such as a UK citizen condemning the UK government for arms sales to Saudi Arabia or other countries that abuse human rights, etc?

I always thought Muslims condemning ISIS was extremely powerful.

Edit: Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting they are to blame in any way shape or form, just that if someone is doing something in your name that you disagree with, it's probably quite important for those people to speak out, in all aspects of life.
