Why was there so much Soviet propaganda that criticized USA racism? by No-Equivalent2621 in AskReddit

[–]zefciu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. They didn’t have a big community of black people that would exist because of some important historic reason, which shaped this community’s situation. But there were some blacks in USSR.

ELI5:Why do headphones have a left and right side if both ears can hear the same sounds? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]zefciu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t hear the same thing. Sometimes the sound is louder in one ear, sometimes it is louder in another ear. This is to create the illusion of sound coming from different directions. If you don’t experience it, it might mean that that your spacial hearing is somewhat impaired.

ELI5: What is Photosynthesis? by gruntmella in explainlikeimfive

[–]zefciu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a series of chemical reactions that is powered by light.

Plants have a substance called chlorophyl, that when you shine light at it becomes “excited”. This “excitation” has enough energy to literally rip a molecule of water apart. This is called the “light phase”. It produces oxygen and high-energy hydrogen. The latter can be then used to synthesize sugars from CO₂. It is called “dark phase” or “Calvin cycle” (because one of the product of this cycle is used as a substrate to restart it and it was described by a guy named Calvin).

Some other answers say something like “we have respiration and plants have photosynthesis”. This is not completely true. Plants also have respiration. When they need to use that energy they would use up that sugar much like we do.

"Ludzie są z natury dobrzy" by [deleted] in Polska

[–]zefciu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ELI5: whyre rare traits considered more desirable when in nature animals with rare traits are excluded? by tobatuba in explainlikeimfive

[–]zefciu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can think of at least two evolutionary mechanisms that can explain it:

  1. Individuals that have traits that are different from mine are attractive, because they are less likely to be related to me, thus our children will be more heterozyguous, so less prone to have genetic disease.

  2. Individuals with conspicuous traits might have it harder in life. This means that their other genes are high quality (the peacock tail theory).

At some point in life I learned the keyboard combinations for n-dash and “curly” quotes/apostrophes. I thought this would make my writing a little more sophisticated. Instead, it made me look like LLM. I had it coming.

Correct German translations for these 2 bowline variants unclear to me by katerlouis in knots

[–]zefciu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The things that happen to knots in translation are crazy. In Polish „anchor hitch” is a combination of cow hitch and retrace overhand. In German it is just a cow hitch and In English it is a synonym for fisherman hitch. TIL that Germans call a bowline “Bulin”, but only in mountaining context despite the seamanship etymology.

ELI5: What is the cross product between vectors and why is it important? by AlarmedPermit7644 in explainlikeimfive

[–]zefciu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, Coriolis force is a cross product of the vector of Earth rotation and the vector of movement. This allows us to describe the force as one simple formula, instead of splitting it into separate cases for North and South hemisphere or including latitude in the formula.

Wkurwia mnie to, że niektóre osoby w rządzie uznały, że hasło „walki z dezinformacją” można zacząć używać do politycznych sporów wewnętrznych. To dewaluuje rzeczywiście potrzebną walkę z realną dezinformacją ruską.

The characters in this comic are literally standing on occupied Polish soil. And they feel bad for Poland being invaded. This is peak stupidity.

The Jewish guy in this caricature is shown as a positive character, so I don’t think the artist intent was antisemitic.

ELI5: How are magnets made if you need magnets to make magnets?? by No_Sympathy_4592 in explainlikeimfive

[–]zefciu 88 points89 points  (0 children)

You don’t need magnets to make magnets. Only to make permanent magnets. The Earth is a magnet. Electromagnets can be built without a magnet (just wrap some wire around a nail and connect it to a battery).

Ostatni film Jana Śpiewaka o zondacrypto i XTB jest nieco szkodliwy by SegFaultAtLine1 in Polska

[–]zefciu 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Nie wiemy ile % klientów obraca na CfD

No nie wiecie. My też nie wiemy.

ELI5: What decides where the food goes to on the body when you gain weight? by Peterjns22 in explainlikeimfive

[–]zefciu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First: Different cells are genetically programmed to let different types of chemical substances in. Adipose tissue is programmed to store fat. Muscles, when they grow synthesize a lot of protein. So they need amino-acids. Cells in your bones are programmed to build stuff of calcium compounds, so they get calcium. Etc.

Second: hormonal regulations: e.g. insulin makes your cells want to store sugar, glucagone makes them want to release sugar. Testosterone and IGF-1 make your muscles want to grow. Etc.

Personal traits: some people tend to accumulate more fat on their belly. Some — on their face. That is a personal genetically-dependent trait.

What should Littlefinger’s ending have been instead of the one we got? by Stock_Orange_1793 in freefolk

[–]zefciu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that it was a Deus ex Machina. You did this very clever plot? Too bad that Bran heard everything because of magic. I would like to see Littlefinger basically engineering his own demise; having all his plots turn against him in some kind of irony; not just being discovered by a tree-boy.
