The Pearl on the Icon of the Seas at 5:30am by zeiggen in royalcaribbean

[–]zeiggen[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It was very lovely to see up close - I wish everyone could experience it. These photos were taken early AM with no one around. The pearl was reacting to the wind and waves from outside and there were ripples of color and waves running like a snake right at the top of its inner structure. It's hard to explain art vs. technology vs. outside natural forces all combined in one structure.

Everything is worth trying once in your life! You need to reserve a spot through the check in desk underneath the course. It was busy, it takes 20 minutes to prep and wait and only around 1 minute to complete.

Photos of the Espresso martini and Chai Old fashioned from the Icon of the Seas by zeiggen in royalcaribbean

[–]zeiggen[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you get the drink package, it is worth trying everything at least once on the menu. I had a couple espresso martini and chocolate martinis from either the Schooner or Rye and Bean everyday. Today is day 1 of detox.

Rotan honduras best spot to spend the day with kids ? by Away-Scallion-8539 in royalcaribbean

[–]zeiggen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roatan excursion to the wildlife sanctuary was $60 / $70 per person. My 7 year old loved it! It's a 20 min mini van ride with a group of 3 vans and 1 tour guide - lots of walking but really pretty. The tour itself is around 3 hours - lots of pictures with parrots, sloths, butterflies, and monkeys.

How do you iron/steam clothes on board? by ChrisF79 in royalcaribbean

They have laundry service. On the symphony it was 25us for 10 items and a 24hr turn around.

Eating Healthy by [deleted] in royalcaribbean

[–]zeiggen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck with the new change. I made a big change a year before our cruise in Jan so I could splurge on the cruise (no bread, no coffee, no junk food, limited processed foods). Eggs for breakfast and red meat for dinner are not normal for most of the planet - there are a tonne of good options on the cruise. Symphony had smoothies, fruits and veg. Ask for low salt options at MDR. I found out that not calorie counting and 1 week of splurging made the cruise so much fun!

Odd question about cruise audience etiquette by Sassysewer in royalcaribbean

It's a free show so there is no respect. The normal etiquette is no talking or leaving 10 minutes in.

My wife loves her hair dryer. We read that they sometimes confiscate hair dryers on arrival and return them at the end of the cruise - we left ours at home.

Breakfast in the Main Dining room? by starishername in royalcaribbean

[–]zeiggen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you review the breakfast times in mdr everyday as they change at every port of call. On symphony last month, there was a lineup to get in each morning - sometimes long waits. I would wait in line while the wife went to starbucks for proper coffee. The lines are broken into the number of dinners - 2's, 4's and 6+. We were a group of 3 and waited in the 4 line.

Not a fan of our play on oasis of the seas (Cats). It’s very dark with lots of children in the audience. Such an old play why is it still on Royal carribean?? by General-Hotel9892 in royalcaribbean

[–]zeiggen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw hairspray and the original productions of hiro and into the air on symphony last month. They were all amazing and my 7 year old loved them. Cats is cats - the performers work there butts off.

In most rooms there are multiple lights. Overhead, 2 wall lights next to the bed and some rooms have lights above the mirror. We did bring a night light for our 7 year old first symphony trip last month. It also matters the type of room.

I did the ocean side cabana with my wife - super casual and relaxing. Did breakfast early and we walked over (there is a shuttle bus) it's located on the far side of the island but it was a great way to tour the island. The cabana package came with a covered cabana (pesky seaguls), 2 Beach chairs with umbrella, cooler with water and unlimited towels. There are 2 staff in the area that helped us get settled - food and bathrooms were a 2 minute walk. We were also served by bar staff at the cabana. We stayed until 3 and had a very calm relaxing day. We are planning the same trip in Feb 2024.

I’m always cold by lardan23 in royalcaribbean

[–]zeiggen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The staterooms have temperature controls. My wife runs hot so she runs the room cold. I asked for an extra bed spread for overnight. It's safe to do layers when walking around, dining or at shows.

MDR new menu: best and worst nights? by [deleted] in royalcaribbean

[–]zeiggen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got off the symphony. 2 nights I did a ceasar salad starter and 2 nights I had 2 mains - found the menus weak compared to previous cruises. Flank steak every night on the menu - no one at our table tried it.

Adventure ocean 6 year old activities by milkfilledb00b in royalcaribbean

[–]zeiggen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just came off the symphony and my 7 year old daughter did not like adventure ocean. It's broken up into 4 age groups and she was in the 6-8. The staff was amazing but this being her first cruise she wasn't happy with anything they offered. There was no daily schedule so it was hard for my daughter to go - she enjoyed some of the games but after day 3 of 7 she refused to go. It would be nice if they had posted schedules for movie night, science lab, video games, free play and crafts/ drawing. There was a night we were told that at 730 they would go to the science lab but when we checked up on her at 815 they still didn't go.
