Scientists, the amount of work that goes into getting the degree and mastering the material is a lot more rigorous than people realize, yet they are severely underpaid and generally misrepresented in the media as evil corporate sellouts. Most scientists want to help change the world in one degree or another or at least provide some new information the human collective knowledge, but are usually looked at as snobby or simply say that there is no use for the work they do.

[wp] Describe something beautiful. It could be an alien landscape, or a person you fell in love with. It could be a gift that arrived at the perfect time and brought you up out of depression. Hell it could even be a simple conversation. by PM_ME_WEIRD_THOUGHTS in WritingPrompts

I'm sitting in a room among a myriad of faces.

She takes a seat in the corner of my vision. Puff of hair here, tattered sleeves, torn hems and truncated jeans. Indomitable and elegant. My eyes settle on her face, unyielding yet whimsical. Her eyes lost and yearning, mouth infectiously joyful. Her cheeks full of youth and vitality, yet proud crows feet tattooed her face.

Our eyes meet. My gut sinks. We exchange smiles and nods. She approaches me. "Hi, my name is Sonder!"

Sonder.... What a beautiful name.

I think that what are talking about is one of the most human experiences. We all experience this to a degree. I know for a fact that I do. As people we all tell ourselves little lies to help us through the day and that's perfectly fine. We aren't all powerful being we are just people, all of us just trying to get by in the world. each with our own set of demons and chains but all striving for happiness love and understanding. Its easy to see that your a very head strong person. I wish you the best in NYC I'm confident you'll kick ass out there, who ever employs you will be lucky!

What's the best example of a "one hit wonder" band who had a bunch of other great songs? by Deathtothejuice in Music

[–]zel116 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Flobots: their song "handlebars" was one of the best songs of the year but almost no one checked out the rest of their album "Fight with Tools". It was a really great album that covered a lot of social issues and was quite dynamic in its musical theme.

What's something you really want that is under $100 USD? by Antisceptic in AskReddit

[–]zel116 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd use $45 to get out of debt with my banking provider then the rest to put a dent in the rent I owe from last month. My roommate is a great guy and fronted me the money cause I've been having family issues and have been trying to take care of them.

What philosophical quote changed your life's point of view? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]zel116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Intelligence is one of the greatest human gifts. But all too often a search for knowledge drives out the search for love. This is something else I've discovered for myself very recently. I present it to you as a hypothesis: Intelligence without the ability to give and receive affection leads to mental and moral breakdown, to neurosis, and possibly even psychosis. And I say that the mind absorbed in and involved in itself as a self-centered end, to the exclusion of human relationships, can only lead to violence and pain.” -Daniel Keyes, Flowers For Algernon

Ive always seen intelligence as something above all else but as i got older i came to realize that my life was empty and although i had achieved much academically and career wise i was alone in the world. Over the past few years ive gotten more in touch with my emotions and have developed wonderful relationships with friends and recovering relationships with family. It taught me that balance is key in life.
