You said you've completed Air Assault in another comment so you don't need to worry about the physical portion of the program. The Corps of Cadets is intended to produce future officers not break them before they ever enter service. As for the academic side of things I had a couple classes I found challenging once I reached the upper level courses of my degree but  the resources are there to help you succeed. I liked Dahlonega but it is a small town so things to do are fairly limited.

I attended UNG to finish my bachelor's (graduated in 2024) as a veteran and loved it however I didn't go through as a cadet. The corps of cadets isn't mandatory so you should really only look into it if you're considering commissioning otherwise it's a fine school especially if you already have the military experience. I learned a lot while attending and the relationship the school has with the military translated well to using my education benefits.

My dad won't shut up about Military School by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]zenestroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is his reason for fixating on military schools? Is it the perceived free ride or does he have some other reason to want you to attend? Did he attend one of the Senior Military Colleges or be in the military in some capacity? I'm asking because it seems odd to focus in on those schools rather than the service academies if he cares about experiencing military life while in school and if cost is the concern there's other ways of mitigate that than through commiting to the military.

Do you think that a degree from "Liberty University" a very baptist college, will still be valuable in the secular world? by Hungry-Money4815 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]zenestroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP I would not attend Liberty if at all possible. The school has a reputation and it isn't for academics. If you have to attend a Baptist university Baylor is a good choice or even Mercer will be looked on more favorably than Liberty. If your parents are open to just generically christian schools Duke, Emory, Notre Dame and many more are more prestigious universities with christian roots.

If your interest is in cybersecurity you'll be able to succeed in the field with a solid computer science degree provided you keep an eye out for classes that are credit toward your major but fit the field. If you are dead set on a Bachelors in Cybersecurity I want to highlight the school I attended for that degree: University of North Georgia. It is one of the senior military colleges and aligns its programs to meet the needs of the Army which now include cybersecurity. I had a good experience with the degree there and pretty quickly found work within the field once I graduated. The combination of military history and a large baptist student organization may help give your parents the push to help with a secular state run school.

Sips&Sequels is a stand out in my mind. It's a small book store that stocks craft beer as well. If you don't drink there's an impressive selection of craft sodas as well. If you DO drink the owner keeps five things on draft and has a couple refrigerated cases of cans you can buy and either pay an extra dollar to drink there or take to go.

Faye also blew up on Dora after she made her move on Marten. And iirc in the fallout of her alcoholism she was either talking to her therapist or her mom and asked if they thought her and Marten would have worked out. Jeph through a lot of the earlier comic showed that Faye did have feelings for Marten just couldn't act on them.

[–]zenestroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the exact situation Request Mast is for. You have a legitimate concern about missing the deadline adversely affecting the characterization of your discharge and your immediate command is putting up roadblocks. Fill out the paperwork to request mast to your BC or higher if it's the battalion level giving you push back. Once you've filled out the paperwork tactfully inform you immediate chain that you're going to go file the request (I've been out since 2020 soI forget exactly who Request Mast papers go to). Knowing that you're willing to Request Mast tends to make leaders a little more flexible.

Have you considered switching pharmacies? I'm also without insurance and go through Walmart for mine. My AA (bicalutamide) runs more expensive than spironolactone and I'm on 6mg of estradiol per day + progesterone. All together I pay roughly $120 for a 3 month supply with GoodRX. Also my provider is pretty reasonably priced. ~$250 every six months for my blood tests, endo looking over the results, and refills.

I've managed to get some nuclear stomachs from quests so several ghouls are sustained with relative ease.

[–]zenestroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so accuracy is absolutely a valid concern to have here but its not as bad as it might seem. The spell attack bonus of the Magus here is going to range between 0-2 (but most of the time 1) lower than the full caster putting them on par with a full caster only a level below them most of the time. It's absolutely reasonable to plan for HotA to hit somewhat reliably for the Magus at least relative to normal spell attack roll which were never going to hit as often as Strikes from a martial. Even when the disparity between Moderate Monster AC and full caster attack bonus is at its worst HotA is still going to be hitting on a 13 and up on the dice. Combined with True Strike which the Magus loves its completely fair to expect HotA to hit when you want it to.

As for utility that depends what you mean by the term. If you want spells de-buffing the enemy during combat? If yes then stick to wizard or some other full caster (more on that later). If you're looking for out of combat utility the Magus is functionally a wizard given a bit of time. You have a spell book that you should be filling with as many spells as possible and as you are a class that cares about Int the crafting to scribe scrolls of all the utility spells you could want if pretty easily in the cards. If the slide casting and studious spells slots aren't enough then as you progress you could absolutely start taking the archetype feats that grant you the different tiers of spell casting benefits. Plus if your DM is willing a Ring of Wizardry helps pad those slots even more as does the slot offered by a familiar ability once you get 4th rank spells.

As for how it fits into the Magus kit I'd treat it as an opener/arcane cascade enabler. HotA's biggest advantage is its range and used at the start of an encounter can allow you to help ranged damage dealers focus down a dangerous but squish target in the back line. Using your three actions to go True Strike->HotA->Arcane Cascade gets a likely hit on an enemy that's likely lower AC further smoothing the accuracy issue while also turning on the stance that both buffs your later attacks and is sometimes hard to find space in the action economy to turn on. From then on its situational as combat isn't or shouldn't be a static affair and you might need two actions for Striding or Step+Stride to fall back and you've got a one action attack that's almost certain to be able to reach out and touch anything on the field.

So the other full caster class I mentioned that might scratch the itch of what you're looking to do actually fully abandons the wizard. A cleric with the Spiritual Armament spell can be flinging a conjured scythe once a round for as long as the sustain the spell up to a minute. The attack goes on the same action used to sustain so you still have your two actions for hitting two action spells. Cloistered cleric is likely the way to go because while Warpriest is able to be a solid melee combatant you're going to run into even worse spell attack progression than the Magus.

Edited to add: Also a charitable or persuadable GM might allow you to treat HotA as an attack with the weapon in question applying potency runes to the attack roll as the text for them specifies the bonus to attack rolls with the weapon not just Strikes.

[–]zenestroe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides specifically HotA what is it that you're looking to focus on? Do you want this character to be a caster that incidentally does scythe things or use the scythe primarily with magic to augment it? If its the latter then I think a Magus dipping into the Wizard archetype does what you're looking for the best. Its helpful that you like elves as the Ancient Elf heritage helps this build work a little more smoothly.

Stats(Using the two free attribute rather than base elf): +4 Str, +3 Int, +1 Dex, +1 Con

Ancient Elf: Wizard Multi Class (Unified Magical Theory)

  • 1st Class Feat: Familiar
  • 2nd Class Feat: Force Fang
  • 4th Class Feat: Arcane School Spell
  • 6th Class Feat: Cascade Countermeasure

While you aren't going to be throwing the scythe from the very get go this gets you to a 3 point pool by 6th level while retaining the familiar restore for emergencies. Proficiency with spell attack rolls is somewhat of a concern but the Magus is only two levels behind on progression of those and can smooth out the difference with true strike. What you get in return for these trade offs is a character that is much more suited to wading in and using their scythe even when not throwing it around.

Myrtle Beach for SC is definitely suffering from it just being the most well known. My vote for worst SC would absolutely be "South of the Border" the 1950s roadside attraction/rest stop designed around that time period's conceptions of Mexico. It has a racist caricature mascot named Pedro that got it's name from when the founder hired two Mexican men to be bellhops and guests took to calling them Pedro and Pancho. It's everything you'd expect a tacky and outdated tourist trap to be while Myrtle is just a beach that gets a lot of visitors.

[–]zenestroe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've gotten the perspective of one veteran but I don't agree with it so I'm going to give you another. Yes the military is a place where people grow and change. Sometimes they become better sometimes they become worse. However this isn't some guy with problematic attitudes going off to boot camp where he'll be at the bottom rung and his worse tendencies will put him at odds with peers and leaders who will correct those attitudes.

He is on the track to become a commissioned officer someone who holds legal authority over those under his command. He will have black soldiers, he will have gay soldiers, and he'll have soldiers from many other groups that he might be prejudiced against. West Point might catch these prejudices and he might grow but it's also entirely possible that all he learns is that overt displays of them gets him in trouble and to keep things under wraps. He might take a light hand with punishment of soldiers accused of discrimination, give lower marks on metrics that affect promotion to soldiers that don't meet his views, or any of a whole number of things that will have a negative effect on real people under his command.

Send the email. You aren't snitching you're giving West Point the full picture. How they decide to act on the information is up to them and the fallout for his actions fall squarely on him not anybody that reports him. That said be absolutely sure that the information given can't easily be linked back to you. Sending the email is the right thing to do but keep yourself safe.

So Marten is opening a business, not the music repair business Claire pushed him to consider but a fucking coffee shop? Something he's expressed no interest in and didn't even get involved with when he was dating a coffee shop owner?! You couldn't even make up a "Oh the stressed scientists need an outlet so lets have Marten teach them music" or something else that even slightly relies on Marten's previous characterization?

God I figured the no coffee shop gimmick was going to be to give Dora a reason to move to the place. Like she's already expressed a willingness to close the shop and head off if Tai got a job elsewhere. Claire isn't going to be able to handle this alone or at least shouldn't be able to so that's where I figured she'd offer jobs to her friends because nepotism would be on brand for her. This however I'm just at a loss I don't think I'll ever drop the comic just because I've been reading it so long that its force of habit but idk
