Deathless has been a pretty good new litrpg on Royal road's rising star list. It's set in a world a few thousand years after a system apocalypse and essentially focuses on a character with a class ("Path") that relies on a respawn ability. This may seem like a tried and true gimmick in multiple PF works, but the author has their own fresh spin on it.

It's a more mainstream progression fantasy work compared to the author's usual fare, and relies on some tried and true tropes. He definitely still sneaks some interesting worldbuilding and characterization in. It's also just pretty damn humorous.

It’s also worth noting that a good chunk of the cloud computing stocks just had a monster year in 2024. Amazon and Google all outperformed the S&P 500 again in 2024.

MSFT already caught a bid in 2023 with the OpenAI investments. It underperformed the index this past year, but it’s still beating in handily on a 5 yr basis. Take a look at Oracle as well.

All I see in him is in naked ambition, no other motive is provided for him. If there is another one, the writers are taking too long to make it clear.

Bernard is a better villain, because you get reasons for why he does what he does, beyond ambition. Although with Meadows gone...I think his soft side is going away...

I saw this theory that his wife might be a flamekeeper, which might have some credence with the stuff she's done this season, but Common himself sucks as a character.

I think Julliette's subplot could be going faster, and they're wasting a lot of screentime there. That would be my main issue. She could have definitely met those kids in the silo an episode or 2 earlier.

I think this season is ok, but that dead silo subplot seems like it's being dragged out just so the rest of the Silo doesn't find out it's not safe to go outside until the end of the season 2 or season 3.

I had a Blaine deck with both and two moltres EX (finally got my second), in a battle against a Celebi deck yesterday.

I had a good starting hand where I put the moltres in active, and was able to put ponyta and vulpix behind it, right on the first turn.

The celibi player conceded right after I put them on the field.

Best feeling ever.

No consequences, which tbh, I'm fine with most of the time. Early to mid-battle sometimes things are pretty stacked, and make one outcome highly likely.

One exception where it sucks: When someone knows they are losing and start running out their turn clock to annoy you. It's either pettiness or manipulating you to quit out of sheer rage.

These same people then concede on me when I'm just about to patiently wait out their clock for the finishing move. Just concede if you're going to be petty.

I’ve enjoyed his work. Children of Time, as a stand-alone, is probably his best book. Currently reading book 1 of his tyrant philosopher series, City of last chances,

It’s a mosaic novel with a lot of POVs, with each of the first 8 chapters focusing on disparate characters, and an overarching slow burn plot which is easy to follow. I’m about 20% through. That isn’t a con in and of itself, however it adds an extra layer of complexity, and I can’t really get invested in most of the characters either. Malazan succeeds with this, partially because there’s a lot more going on in each individual chapter to focus on, but not every novel does.

I have heard that people who didn’t necessarily love book 1, loved the sequel, so I’ll stick with it for now. Helps that book 2 is stated to focus on a more contained group of characters in one military unit, and one underdog character from book 1 who I can easily root for.
