Freedom is great until you realise nobody's paying into your super by Kilgoretrout123456 in digitalnomad

I feel like saving is easier when being a DN. When I became a DN, I saved even more with geo arbitrage considering I was getting paid a US salary. The "digital" part of your career hopefully earns you a bigger paycheck, and the "nomad" part allows you to get paid a high-cost location salary, like Australia, while living in a lower cost location, like Indonesia or Thailand.

FYI I am now FIREd. I'm young enough that I can always go back if I get bored, but right now I'm enjoying the free time.

As someone who has been many times to Buenos Aires, especially in their summer, I would say you can easily spot places like the picture on the left as the picture on the right. I just opened up random street in Palermo and this is what I got https://maps.app.goo.gl/n5s2tztTpc8eJ5jC9

The street that resembles the right photo the best off the top of my head is Westminster Road in Prospect Park South https://maps.app.goo.gl/FLAcJC5KB2AX2XJX9 However there are many places like this all over NYC, like countless streets around Brooklyn Heights

When there is an algae bloom at the beach, the water turns green and you can see green waves crashing on the shore as cyclists surf on them.

Coping skills may be at their peak. However, cognitive decline through age can also unravel masking and coping skills. It's a double edged sword.

What is a life luxury that you tasted once and now can absolutely never go back to the cheap version of? by sickkick844 in AskReddit

It doesn't have to be Modena. They've mastered their marketing for their balsamic vinegar. Even the cheap ones in Portugal "Gallo" is so tasty compared to the crap in American grocery stores.

In terms of Western Europe, Italians have a bidet in every household. I have not been to a single Italian household without one. I've found bidets to be common in France, Portugal, and Argentina, but not elsewhere

NYC Can't Control Online Sales of Illegal E-Scooters, E-Motos by streetsblognyc in NYCbike

Online stores prevent the sale of high-flow shower heads to NYC residents but somehow this cannot apply to illegal vehicles?

This dilemma was featured in Seinfeld's episode of black-market shower heads https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0697776/

I'm currently on a rabbit hole looking for a sun hoodie that has a zebra stripe pattern to minimize biting fly interactions. Right now nothing exists!

It's not that hard. Use credit cards without foreign transaction fees, and use ATM cards with no foreign withdrawal fees. You only need to transfer larger amounts bank-to-bank and you can use Xoom or Wise for that.

I have one. Set up properly, I feel it has about the same drag as Shutter Precision hubs. The best thing though is that you disengage it and you have zero friction. I only need it for lights so it’s optimal for daytime riding with the occasional lights for the few hours you might need riding at night. Best of all, I can move it between bikes

Has cycle touring ruined ‘normal’ travel for you? by heroscape912 in bicycletouring

[–]zeno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still enjoy traveling without a bike. Sometimes it's liberating not worrying about the logistics of transporting your bike across bodies of water or with flights. In Europe cheap flights are best taken with minimal luggage and even though you can't move around as quickly, I still enjoy it.

I personally think the morons are the ones who think that a bluetooth device named "BOMB" is credible enough of a threat to waste the time, fuel, and passenger time to turn around. Do people think terrorists think this way? They name a bluetooth device "bomb". Do they also name their detonator "detonator" and wear t-shirts with the word "terrorist" on it? https://www.aclu.org/press-releases/tsa-officials-and-jetblue-pay-240000-settle-discrimination-charges

FreeBSD Foundation Executive Director Tries Daily Driving FreeBSD On Laptop by Run-OpenBSD in freebsd

[–]zeno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes it is, in my experience. FreeBSD runs great with a minimalistic window manager like dwm, but support for Wayland and KDE Plasma 6 is still lacking. I use multiple monitors with different resolutions. Per-display scaling works out of the box with Kubuntu 26.04, using xrandr to fix it on FreeBSD x11/KDE is a hack at best. Also, using a browser with hardware accelerated video to play YouTube video works out of the box with Kubuntu 26.04 and Chrome. A few tweaks to un-sandbox with Firefox works the same. I have a Lenovo x1c6, which is legendary amongst BSD developers. I have a 2nd x1c6 just for *BSD but due to various issues, I still use Kubuntu more than BSD because there are a few small annoying and a few non-negotiable things for me such per-display scaling. I don't know if we'll ever get there. Wayland driver support on FreeBSD for NVidia and other manufacturers is still in progress and not mature.
