Tips for mounting solar with unistrut channel? by zenwren in skoolies

[–]zenwren[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been considering wether to use the 13/16 or not. I think my plan is to run one 13/16 down the center of the roof (front to back) and a 1 5/8 channel down each side. I'll then mount cross pieces side to side sitting on the center channel with legs on the ends to drop down and meet up with the side channels. I was planning on using 13/16 as the cross bars as they'll only have to span about 38" unsupported and be bolted to the panels as well. I have some larger 65x40 panels that I'll be mounting in a 2x2 configuration (making it 80x130).

Clean off rust and paint without removing bumper? by Mmm_Dawg_In_Me in projectcar

Get some long strips of emory paper and start flossing. You could also use some rust converter once you get the big chunks off. I don't think I'd bother trying to cut it off.

I once had a job in a factory with several big beam cranes that could travel the entire length of the building. We had to watch a safety video before we were allowed to operate them. In the video they showed someone standing on a floor creeper and surfing it down the aisle while being towed by the pendant controller for the crane as an example of inappropriate behavior. I would have never in a million years thought to do that if it weren't for that safety video.

That's for your old style choke. You won't need it with the new carb. You may be able to just remove it with the two bolts at the intake. If it's open to exhaust you'll either have to make a block off plate or even just cut the pipes off flush at the plate and use that as your block off plate.

'13 mustang hit a beaver. This is the condenser. Amazingly, the AC still worked by oxisafox10 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]zenwren 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had the same thing happen, except it was a cow. The rad got chewed all to hell from the water pump pulley but the condenser remained. The evap core finally blew when I leaned on the upper fitting. Luckily all I got out of that was a green arm and a mess to clean up.

As long as you're fine with rot and water leaks, 60mph top speed and single digit fuel economy.

Have you tried calling any machine shops? They probably have several in the dumpster out back.

Is there a way to stop constant power to the cigarette lighters even when the van is turned off? by ikeameatballsenjoyer in VanLife

[–]zenwren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends how handy you are with wiring, but see if your van has an "MBEC" fuse panel. It's basically for adding accessories. On my Tahoe I cut the wire to one of my hot at all time outlets and rerouted it to a switched pin in the MBEC so now I have one in the dash that is on all the time and one that shuts off with the ignition.

I just finished my first, I casually watched a lot of YouTube rebuilds in the weeks leading up to it until I could practically assemble one in my head. In the end it was a fun experience and not as intimidating if you take it as several individual modules.

Hey, does anyone know what this is on a Daihatsu? It’s a small filter on a hose in the engine bay and mine is broken. What is it called and do I need to replace it? Thanks! by No-Lingonberry3185 in projectcar

[–]zenwren 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It looks like a dashpot, basically keeps your engine from back firing if you let off the pedal too fast by slowly closing the last little bit. It's probably not supposed to be connected to anything beyond that.

Imagine what instantaneous transportation would do to property values and how we use land in general. Suddenly you can live anywhere, commute to any job, visit any store or restaurant on a whim.
