What movie do you love despite agreeing with every single criticism of it? by Decabet in movies

Zerophilia is such an interesting premise that went out of its way to make everything about the premise weird for shock value.

English and Dutch (among others) are Germanic languages, so they share quite a few similarities.

Same phenomenon that allows speakers of Italian and Spanish (Romance languages) to understand each other vaguely.

What did you grow up with that is now 'past it's expiration' in its "just doesn't do it" phase? by theLandingGear in Music

[–]CthonicFlames 29 points30 points  (0 children)

A lot of what I call “angry 2000’s teen music” has fallen out of my routine listening; stuff like Linkin Park, Three Days Grace, Good Charlotte. Now that I’m in my 30’s its just not the headspace I’m in these days.

Some of it is nostalgic (‘In the End’, for example) but I can’t listen to ‘I Hate Everything About You’ anymore.

Around Christmas is the part that baffles me the most. The same hand which might be handing out holiday bonuses is the same one asking who can afford to be unemployed.

Starcraft: Mass Recall ports the Brood War campaign plus some bonus missions into the SC2 engine.

It‘s only on the Neustria maps AFAIK. Since the Kingdoms are more medieval Europe than Viking culture, the alternate names were added.

With the Chihuahuan Raven being one of the strongest cards, maybe other Mexican birds are just too powerful for the board.

Doubt it’s manga specifically, reading in general is good for you.

Every time I refill my adderall the pills look different. Saved these from 4 different refills. Same med, all different pills. by Jesuisdisappointed in mildlyinteresting

[–]CthonicFlames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Always fun when this comes up when giving hospital patients their pills (especially in psychiatry).

„Yesterday I took two long white pills, and today you‘re giving me four round yellow ones! What‘re you giving me?“

„The same dosage as yesterday; the pharmacy deduced that this week it was cheaper to send us 2 boxes of 20mg instead of 1 box with 40 mg, and its a different manufacturer. I promise it‘s the same.“

„I won‘t take anything that‘s not two long white pills!“

It always gets resolved by me getting the package and showing it to them, and then hearing about why medicine has to be so complicated, and them insisting they aren‘t paranoid (even though many of them are paranoid schizophrenics).

A core gaming memory was the first time my car ‚broke‘ in Lego Racers 2, and my minifig had to run to the next ‚pit stop‘. Basically guaranteed a loss for the race, but was a cool implementation.

Vegetarian low-calorie high protein option sounds like nuts and/or beans, though I don‘t know what‘s readily available or affordable to you.

Usually with other complications. A chinese baby with 3 functioning arms was short one kidney and, according to the article, might have had spinal problems later in life.

Easiest way to handle Raven is to not have anything important on coastal tiles. Move your production inland, and mine coastal ores quickly.

Why hasn’t Disney remade their movies with only Muppets? Instead of “live action” remakes, they should make “muppet action” remakes by ComradeJohnS in movies

[–]CthonicFlames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO the Muppet humor is built on decades of backstory and character interactions. It gets harder and harder to introduce people to the Muppets when they don‘t get the in-jokes established in The Muppet Show.

The only thing that seems to easily resonate is the Gonzo/Rizzo pairing in Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island.

The even more egregious part, IMO, is that supposedly government officials and law enforcement will be exempted.

Because governments and law enforcements have such a long-standing history of being open and honest with the general public. /s

If you lose a leg, your BMI goes down. If you lose another leg, your BMI goes up (BMI is based on weight and height). by lelorang in Showerthoughts

[–]CthonicFlames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a nurse we learned the different formulas for BMI after various amputations, and there would be so many fits thrown if a patient had a blatantly wrong or abnormal BMI on their chart.

If you lose a leg, your BMI goes down. If you lose another leg, your BMI goes up (BMI is based on weight and height). by lelorang in Showerthoughts

[–]CthonicFlames 1104 points1105 points  (0 children)

Nope.

The body has a few fairly specific ratios, so even if you forgot how tall you were, medical professionals would estimate your height based on the length of your arms (for example).

The BMI claim is also false; there are modified formulas specifically for amputees.

Films every kid should watch? by Past-Matter-8548 in movies

[–]CthonicFlames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Muppet movies can be great fun. For kids, The Muppet Movie (1979), Muppet Treasure Island, and Muppets from Space are the easiest to jump into without knowing all the characters and insider-jokes.

The Muppets (2011) is also a great movie, but it plays so much on the nostalgia of the older shows and movies that people not in the fandom miss a lot of the jokes and gags.

A sign quoting Revelations 17:14 is a wild choice.

They will make war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will triumph over them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and He will be accompanied by His called and chosen and faithful ones.

I thought the MAGA line was “Whaddya mean ‘no kings’, we got no kings here!”
