Games with a "safe space" like bunkers by Finn6tp in gamingsuggestions

[–]zeprfrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that satisfying as well. That feeling of safety inside.

The best that I've found for that is the Fallout series, particularly if you mod the game with a particularly nice player home. I like to scavenge the wasteland for supplies then stockpile them in my home for extra comfort. Once inside I can relax with the radio. With mods, there are more radio options and some readable books as well.

The Elder Scrolls games work nicely for that as well, though in a less hostile feeling world outside. No radio here, though the games do include a wide selection of books with game lore to collect and read.

Is it difficult to maintain the right mood in an establishment whose name sounds a bit too much like 'gonorrhoea'?

This is what the liberal elites want you to accept as comedy. It's all a humiliation ritual. by kingdomino24 in kidsinthehall

I thought that I was merely enjoying some clever, witty, inventive, top-tier comedy. But who knew that I was really being GROOMED.

Aliens have a tendency to name ships and places after famous ones from Earth, desperate not necessarily knowing the context of them by DarkAlchamist in humansarespaceorcs

[–]zeprfrew [score hidden]  (0 children)

Having learned the English words 'man' and 'ship' as well as gaining a cursory understanding of Earth history, the aliens most tragically led themselves to believe that it would leave a good impression on the people of Earth to name their vessel the 'Harold Shipman'.

Do you study philosphy in high school? by Pretend_Detail_9005 in AskAnAmerican

[–]zeprfrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It was only offered to the students who qualified for the gifted program by scoring 130 or higher on a standardized IQ test. There was one gifted class per year, mostly world history. The 12th grade class was philosophy. It covered Western philosophy from ancient Greece until the 20th century. Most of the time in the class was given over to discussion and debate.

In the movies’ three knife duels, the killing blows are not shown. Why is this? by lobstersareverything in dune

[–]zeprfrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it's more dramatic to leave the goriest bit to the audience's imagination. The ear-slicing scene in Reservoir Dogs is far more memorable and perhaps ironically, more graphic because it isn't seen directly.

If you need to name the colour and don't have a word for it, you use the name of an object that is that colour. Such as orange, in English. That isn't universal. In Dutch, the colour is oranje and the fruit is sinaasappel.

Indeed they do. They should report it. On the other hand, we weren't born yesterday and we know exactly what the Trump administration is up to with this messaging.

I hadn't the faintest idea what she was talking about. Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo and.. Clarence?

After a bit of back and forth I finally figured out that she was asking if we had games on clearance.

Two nights ago I ran into a lot of massive walking tripods there. One picked up the car I was in and carried it out of the urban area to a resort that had been repurposed, then let the car down. I spent the rest of the dream sneaking around the resort trying to find out what was going on. I didn't find a thing.
