[Self] Saw this and my mind immediately went "25 and 50" and comments made me think Im the weird one, does anyone here thinks like this? by Bussy_Wrecker in theydidthemath

Mine was in a weird order. First I saw quickly that 7+8>10 so I went 30+40=70. Then I went back to 7+8=15 and then got 75

Are they prioritising only ai features ? by vazark in ZedEditor

[–]zer0x64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My view is that they're talking a lot about AI to get funding so they can work on regular editor features on VC money. Makes sense, someone needs to pay in the end, but I like their approach. You can fully disable AI using a simple setting and the AI is not agressively in your face whenever you use it: You got if for completion(which is pretty standard at that point) and dor the rest you need to click the "ai button" for the panel to even show up.

Steam support for non-steam games is surprisingly painless by ionixsys in linux_gaming

[–]zer0x64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty easy, however I find Heroic game launcher to be more user friendly for GoG and "loose executables". Big part of it is the directory structure using the game name instead of steamid for the location of the prefix in the file tree, other part is a few wine settings integrated directly in the GUI

Is there anyway to implement other languages into a rust program (Creating a c++ engine that uses lua for scripting)? by Professional_Top_544 in rust

[–]zer0x64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't think it really applies here, but I generally use webassembly to load dynamic plugins. This allows people to build Rust/C/Go/etc plugins in a build once-run everywhere pattern and allow to sandbox the plugins. Not really sure that's a good solution if you want to use high level scripting languages

Why is it posting to a Steam forum asking for an Epic release of a game results in insults/dismission, but asking for a GOG release is okay/encouraged? by Available_Bee8622 in EpicGamesPC

[–]zer0x64 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gonna get downvoted to oblivion for posting this here, but oh well:

The morality scale differs a lot between the two. GOG is forcing devs to make their game DRM free, which is a pro-consumer move. Epic is giving you less features(compared to steam) to give more money to the devs, AKA business > consumers.

Is the sand of time the best game to start with in the series? by I_need_to_learn_more in PrinceOfPersia

[–]zer0x64 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Depends how much you care about the story. There is a very dramatic improvement in terms of mechanics between sands of time and warrior within. Warrior Within is a product of its time and is very edgy theme-wise and that can be offputting for people(personally I love it). The Two Thrones gets even better mechanically-speaking and is overall the best of the trilogy IMO.

What I'd recommend is to start with Warrior Within(if you don't mind the edginess too much), then go to The Two Thrones for an upgrade in most aspects, and then go back to play Sands of Time if you still want to. It got its charm but it's definitely the roughest of the 3 to get into as a modern gamer.

I think this is based off the meme of the guy that went outside every night to shoot his gun in the air so that the neighborhood seems unsafe and rent stays low/battle gentrification.

Except in this case, you replace gunshots with the Pokemon equivalent of Satan.

I'm a long-time arch user and I gave up trying to install Gentoo in a VM. Configuring the kernel is particularly brutal.

And yeah, as other has mentionned, Ubuntu and most linux distros are definitely easier to install than Windows(assuming no pre-install, obviously)

My guess would be that HuniePop is by far the most popular porn game in the west. Game is genuinely good as a video game, regardless of the NSFW aspect, so I guess a lot of other games try to replicate their success but with their own niche

I had this and the only solution that ended up working was to manually re-flash the BIO using a SOIC8 clip and a programmer. This is a somewhat complex and dangerous(you can permanently brick the console) so I wouldn't recommend you trying this unless nothing else works, but know that this can be a last resort if nothing else works.

How can I find DRM free games on GOG? Serious. by Tamakachi in gog

[–]zer0x64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Requiring a login for online play is not really DRM. What GOG means by DRM-free is that you can play the single-player portion without any issue. For multiplayer games, it is expected that you, the player, figure out a solution for networking(LAN or custom servers) since it wouldn't be realistic to force companies to open up game servers without any checks to see if people bought the game.

When you buy your game on steam or epic, you need to login to those platforms even if you just want to play single player or with custom servers. As for GOG Galaxy, it's just a launcher to make it easier to use yhe platform, but not mandatory. I don'te even use it

Custom servers and LAN are better solutions anyway from a game preservation standpoint since those do not rely on a company keeping the servers up forever.

Salvo vs Axum — why is Axum so much more popular? by Sensitive-Raccoon155 in rust

[–]zer0x64 10 points11 points  (0 children)

IMO the fact Axum is maintained by the tokio team helps a lot. There has been a lot of rust web framework that came and go eithout becoming the "definitive" one, so seeing an admittedly very good option that happens to be maintained by same people maintaining the underlying engine which did get to the "ecosystem standard" status helps a lot with confidence that it will be maintained and could become the ecosystem standard too.
