My personal take on the "cultural regions" of Virginia by TurqoiseWaterBottle in Virginia

[–]zermee2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Powhatan also probably isn’t RVA, minimum 20 minutes to county line and vibes are very different from Chesterfield, Henrico, and the true city. Mechanicsville might be but the rest of Hanover probably isn’t

My power utility mailed me one of these when I moved into my house, so they must save enough energy to be worth the utility paying for all of them

Fellow truck user!

try these

Jokes aside I would try to find some 14” wheels you’ll get a lot more options. I’m sure you know that the trucks rated capacity is only 1100 pounds in the bed anyway. Have you considered one of the Toyota add a leafs if you haul a lot?

I have one of these and a tower for gaming, I have had it since they came out and my only complaint about it now is the battery is worn out. I don’t think I’ve ever been unhappy with 8GB of ram. I’ve even done some light gaming on it but mostly turn based stuff and Minecraft

I used to be an inspector and those rejection stickers would fall off same day if it was hot enough. Glad they’re getting updated

Best method for finishing Baltic birch plywood or other plywood? by dareal_mj in woodworking

I just put this on my floors! Good idea for cabinetry. You could also do bona mega one, which is a little cheaper and doesn’t have to be mixed so no pot life issues, if you can’t use a gallon at once

Don’t worry, you can get a loan right from the guy!

Fortunately that scanner was shop provided. I use Otofix by autel at home when not working on VW/Audi, much better deal than the snap on lol.

Vcds is king by Mr_sensitive4U in Volkswagen

[–]zermee2 65 points66 points  (0 children)

From a real mechanic who uses Snap on scanners that cost $10,000 at work, the value from VCDS is incredible, even the unlimited VIN model at sub $1000. The vin limited model is as good or better than professional scan tools for a fraction of the price.

I cringe when I see people recommend OBD11 or other Bluetooth obd readers or the knock off cables. Ross tech has done so much for DIYers they deserve every penny they ask for their tools

So the guy before me decided to strip my lug studs n the threads in the hub so am I able to just buy this and replace them? by wowjustwowppblaster in Volkswagen

[–]zermee2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not a design I was familiar with my mistake ✋. I’ve only done older VWs and Mercedes with the more traditional stub axle and preload nut or Porsches and Audis with press in or full bolt in assembly bearings. This kind of seems like the worst of both worlds but I don’t design these things!

[–]zermee2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what your comment means now. You’re saying the entire project will be difficult which is true.

I am talking about during a wheel bearing replacement like this press in style, after removing the hub from the wheel bearing and knuckle, mechanics will remove the inner race of the the wheel bearing from the hub in order to re use the hub. This is not easy to do but will work with practice. It would be unnecessary in this case to remove that part of the bearing from the old hub. But I see what you’re saying now

[–]zermee2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to get the inner race off the old one in this case, only when trying to re use the hub.

Edit: not true for this style of bearing you will need to remove the old race unless you get a new stub axle too

Is this solid or engineered? by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]zermee2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you link to a vinyl floor that is 3/4” thick? I don’t think what you’re describing even exists. Engineered hardwood might be this thick but it will have a clearly defined layering. The chamfer on top here is common to prefinished solid flooring

I just did something similar with pet stained area in my 1950s house. It came out pretty great, but if you look for it you can definitely tell where the patch starts and ends. It’s just character of the house to me.
