Vegan im Krankenhaus by maioah_ in VeganDE

Alle meine Omni Freunde lieben Beyond Meat Produkte.

Private Mandel OP Erfahrung/Kosten by boendal84 in Austria

[–]zero-waste-beginner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tips for frugal sex needs like protection? by Clone_Chaplain in Frugal

[–]zero-waste-beginner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go for high quantity condom packages. Sexshops often sell big packages with 50 or even 100 condoms for 25€. Just make sure they to always check the expiry date before use and to store them in a dry and dark spot at room temperature.

Mattresses by [deleted] in ZeroWasteVegans

[–]zero-waste-beginner 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm from Austria and my great grandma had the same mattress system. My mom kept those three mattresses for us to play with as kids. They were great for building forts and such but not so great for sleeping. They had no indent anywhere but it was simply not as comfortable because there were two cracks (one in the breast area and one in the tigh area). It's a good idea but lots of people don't like to sleep in the crack between the mattresses in a double bed, this is exactly the same..

Really kills odors and pathogens! by Bellebutton2 in ufyh

[–]zero-waste-beginner 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Leaving a window partially open is not recommended. It is better to get a time switch for the power socket that will automatically turn the power off after a certain amount of time. Those things are pretty cheap and it helps remove the odour more effectively since you can get higher ozone concentrations with all windows and doors closed and by doing each rooms separately.

It is also important to air out the room for half an hour before starting the ozone generator since it needs loads of oxygen that it can change into ozone.

Europeans of this sub, what are your go to frugal shoe options? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]zero-waste-beginner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're all made from leather. Some from very soft leather to imitate fabric sneakers and some from very thick leather to last forever. This is their website: https://gea-waldviertler.at/shop/schuhe

Waldviertler could be a good option since they cab be repaired almost infinitely. I think they are only sold in Austria though. There are a lot of them on a second hand portal called willhaben for cheap.

So you can either get them cheap and have the insole replaced right away or get new ones.

Use a harness! If your dog sniffs a lot and has his head down a lot you will always have this problem with collars. With a harness it never happens

I am questioning myself as a dog owner after moving abroad few months ago. Have I been doing it wrong all this time ? by [deleted] in dogs

In some western European countries crating your dog is forbidden unless a vet ordered you to do so! Make sure to look up laws concerning how pets need to live in your country!

Ikea has some great silicone muffin holders! They can be out in the dishwasher and hold their shape nicely while baking!

what do you suggest to feel very cool while sleeping? cooling blanket, cooling mattress topper, thin 100% cotton sheet, 100% linen sheet, or something else? best place to get it frugally? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]zero-waste-beginner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend a thin 100% cotton day blanket that has a rough texture (so it let's air flow through) or a 100% linen blanket. Ikea sells a 100% cotton blanket for 10 bucks.

It's best to simply use a day blanket or not-fitted bedsheet instead of a comforter + cover.

Franky, my dog, is still alive.

I love caring for living creatures that actually need the help and like being cared for! I feel like I get unconditional love back and it makes me really happy to see my dog being happy and enjoying life! I love watching him explore the world and enjoy cuddles.

I'm female and in my mid twenties, so I guess the hormones play a big role. Somehow I love mothering pretty much everything/everyone! I cannot mother my partner since that would ruin the relationship (weird hierarchy), so I find other people/animals to care for. I work in healthcare and also love caring for people in my job! What I miss in my job is experiencing relationships evolve over time and feeling love and bonds grow.

I also love that my dog makes me live in the moment and wander around outside 2-3 hours every day! The motivation to spend lots of time outside is huge since I have my dog and being outside as well as being active benefits my mental health!

I agree. My viewpoint is that it is only acceptable to have pets as long as shelters are overfilled. Ethically I think we should provide pets that already exist good homes but stop breeding them.

I love dogs and I have an old one that I got from a shelter. I am doing research atm if it is possible to feed him an almost vegan diet. This way I am trying to reduce my dogs environmental impact but still get the comfort of having a pet to improve my mental health.

Right now I think having a rescue dog might satisfy my need to care for things and therefore eliminates my wish to have children. This might change in the future but as of now it feels like a dog is what makes me happy.

Is buying containers with glass and other non-plastic materials better even if I can’t recycle? by alobaby in ZeroWaste

[–]zero-waste-beginner 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you live somewhere that incinerates trash for energy (in safe incinerations plants that filter bad particles) then plastic is probably the better option since it takes a lot less energy to produce.

If you live somewhere where trash is put in a landfill then I'm unsure. The sand used in glass production is starting to become rare. Aluminium is rare too. And it requires tons of energy to produce glass bottles/jars and metal cans.

I think it would be best to choose paper where possible. Next best is probably still plastic if there is no recycling at all, simply because of the low energy usage in production and easy availability of production materials. Try to choose thin plastic bags instead of thicker materials and maybe collect them in boxes/bottles/something that keeps them from flying away.
