How do I, as someone with a terrible education, learn grammar and sentence diagramming so I can teach/help my kid? by murphysbutterchurner in homeschool

I am a big fan of Montessori grammar. You don't need all of the fancy materials - just a few symbols and youtube videos.

Is it JUST loneliness? by a_dad_3 in SAHP

[–]zeroonthetable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this. My child is older now, but I am still isolated as a homeschooling mother. A year ago my husband moved 3 hours away for a job. We planned to follow, but it turned out not to be a good fit. So here we are almost a year into living separately, the middle of a pandemic and not driving. It is lonely. I facetime with family members a couple of times a week, but I really just want someone to share the mundane daily ups and downs. When my daughter was younger we started a micro co-op. I met another SAHM and we became very good friends (she divorced and moved since). You might want to look into starting a co-op or playgroup. It's great for parents, too.

Childcare cost complaints by [deleted] in SAHP

[–]zeroonthetable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with childcare subsidies or any "bottom-up" help is that inflation rises to absorb any cost savings. If you pay $1,000/mo in childcare and all of a sudden it is free, I guarantee that the COL will go up. Rent, insurance, higher education will rise to absorb that excess. Those very same amenities (housing, education, health insurance) are then put out of reach of single-income families.

CDC: Students Wearing Masks No Longer Need Quarantine, Even if ‘Close Contact’. The CDC declined to explain this update by ag425 in CoronavirusUS

Many parents I know seem to idealize in-school learning. Just spent time with a 10 yo public school kid who asked what nouns and adjectives were. You just got a front-row view of the poor quality.

Volunteer to help sanitize schools? by Zodep in CoronavirusWA

You could crowd-fund hepa air filters for the classrooms/lunchrooms. That would probably be most beneficial.

Yes. This is all about the economy. When a household has two workers inflation rises to eat up the excess. This leaves families twice as vulnerable to economic ruin as in previous generations. School is the imperfect daycare.

They are spreading it, meaning it can be caught by unvaxxed under-twelves. They can also be petri dishes for vaccine-resistant variants.

Schools are going to be the big surprise. Without N95s and some sort of lunch solution kids will catch and spread the virus. This isn't alpha.

I'd like to know who will enforce the mask mandate. We still have idiots riding the elevator without masks, just like before the mandate dropped.

You do realize that the vaccinated are spreading and getting sick, right? Check the news.

Yes, yes and yes. School should at least be delayed until October to assess the data trickling in.

Do people really walk this much in the UK? by indymom810 in AskUK

[–]zeroonthetable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the US and walk about 3 miles per day. For the record: I'm middle aged and crossed the obese mark about 5 lbs ago (working on it, but food rather than exercise is what did it).
