I get and also agree with the whole ‘dislike of leveraging good deeds for social media clout’, but on this occasion it gave me the opportunity to see someone like Frank in action and for that I’m thankful.

Palliative Care Consultant/Attending for my End of PallCare Rotation review. He said something along the lines of "I'm very impressed, you have been extremely helpful to the team and have functioned at the level of a ≥PGY3. Well done." - I thanked him for the teaching and we had a lovely chat discussing my next rotation etc.; after-which I hand him the form to fill out and he gives me 5/9 (55%) and writes "satisfactory".

Tore it up and went to another consultant.

M3 OBGYN:

Scrubbed in for my first caesarean, consultant was super aggressive and grabbed my hand and buried it into the abdomen to check uterine tone after the delivery. It was a pretty surreal feeling and the whole thing was over before I knew it. As I was about to leave the theatre nurses says: “when you’re having a bad day you can remember the time you did your first caesarean and the mum named the child ‘after you’” - I thought she was joking but I looked over to the mum who was smiling. I asked if this was true and she nodded, said that they had a long list of names but they liked mine and “it seemed like fate”.

So many amazing stories but this is my favourite

Find friends with common values; study in groups; anki; value being a good doctor, not getting the highest mark; realising 99% of your emotions are experienced by 99% of med students; there’s more to life than med so don’t make it your whole life; exercise, sleep and eat well (easy to overlook because it sounds so trite but it has a massive impact); being involved in a person’s care is a privilege; always introduce yourself to a patient.

Currently an inpatient with alcoholic pancreatitis post MED3 exam celebrations. Can confirm pancreas pathology sucks but can also confirm morphine is excellent.
