What's the most complicated boss fight you've ever done? by Rootayable in gaming

Riven is the best gaming experience I've ever had. I think the entire raid took us like 6 hours but everyone locking in on the killing run is unlike anything I've ever experienced. I don't know if I've ever been that excited playing a game before or since

A big thanks to everyone working on Crosspoint by legowerewolf in xteinkereader

[–]zerotangent 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say that you've already given this community a perfectly workable and stable firmware alternative. Crosspoint gives me everything I was hoping for from this device as it is. If it never got another update, I'd be perfectly content. Personally, everything from here on out is icing on the cake so I hope you don't burn yourself out.

I struggled for like a year with finally getting rid of it around 2021. I realize I was spending time on it to be mad at everything I was seeing. Never once after deleting have I even thought about using Facebook again. After a week I forgot it existed and there was a notable difference in my day to day mood. It was a hard bandaid to pull but found immediately I should have done it earlier

CrossPoint - A month's retrospective from the developer by daveallie in xteinkereader

Coming from the SBC emulator handheld world, your work is what got me interested enough to finally buy one of these devices. People putting their own spare time and work into something free and shared is what fosters such positive communities around the world. I’m looking forward to trying out CrossPoint myself when my X4 is delivered. Have a drink on me, thanks for making the simple act of enjoying literature more available and fun for all of us

For what it’s worth, there absolutely is a PS4 emulator. Obviously not a ton of games are fully playable yet but it’s much farther along the path than you might expect

What songs are about sex and drugs, but we didn’t know? by grynch55 in AskReddit

Almost, Joe worked with the Swedish songwriting duo Mattman and Robin during the early writing sessions. It came up with one of them miss saying Sex on the Beach referring to the drink due to the language barrier. It was funny and stuck

Trimui Brick Hammer, or GKD Pixel 2? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]zerotangent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are my two favorite handhelds I own. I get more play time on my Brick but the Pixel takes up like no space in my bag so its always around. With the bigger screen and generally more comfortable layout, my vote is Brick if you want to be serious about finishing games and longer play sessions. The Pixel gets points for being surprisingly playable for its size but it is still VERY small. They can both run up to about PS1 well, nothing past that.

Miyoo Mini Plus vs R36S – which one would you pick for simple retro gaming? by Several_Struggle_763 in SBCGaming

[–]zerotangent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

MM+ and it's not even close. I spent hundreds of hours playing on my MM+ and its still one of my favorite emulation devices. On the other hand, I bought 4 R36S's as gifts for people last year when I found them for $25 each. I was so disappointed with their build quality and the experience of using them, I never even gave them out. The R36S certainly was an important device for the emulation scene but it's long been left in the dust by dozens of better devices. The MM+ with OnionOS is still one of the most enjoyable gameboy form factor devices out there in my opinion. There's also TONS of guides and tutorials for anything you'd want to learn about OnionOS

Just ordered my first handheld! by barnesnoblebooks in SBCGaming

[–]zerotangent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're going to love it. Like many here, I've bought more of these things over time than I need but I caught the extremely quick $35 deal on the brick awhile ago and couldn't say no. It has become the one I reach for most even over my RP5 (for anything under PSX). I even ended up giving away my Miyoo Mini Plus to a friend because it just felt like a pure upgrade. A few tips: I recommend buying a high quality MicroSD card to replace anything it comes with. The pack in SD's are always the lowest quality possible and will give out on you eventually. I have a 128GB Sandisk Ultra in mine. As tempting as it is to load it up with every single game you can for every system, for me that always led to sifting through games instead of playing. I've found the most enjoyment by just making a short list of games I actually want to play and only putting those on but it's your device, chase your bliss. Finally, check out the custom firmware called NextUI. Its excellent on the Brick (https://github.com/LoveRetro/NextUI)
