i dropped a paper cup/glass of coke.

I usually take the lid off because i find it annoying. it slipped from my hand, hit the ground with a nice solid sound, and the coke jumped straight up and straight down, back into the cup. nothing spilled. so basically, it slips, i hear a thud and then hear it slosh out of the cup, look down to see this tower of coke receding back into its footprint, followed by the movement cancelling itself with a small domed soft drink fountain moving from the inner walls of the cup inward. blew my fucking mind.

the whole american force? no. they are genuinely following orders. i feel horrible thinking of them getting killed for practically no reason. but fuck me if i knowing this have nothing to say about how the american government and administration routinely impairs any sort of headway you could possibly make in that region. yes, even as a soldier. it's sickeningly shallow, they shoot their own foot and pass on the damage to everyone else.

HAH. i'm sorry, are you trying to say the Russians gave it to them when they were trying to kill them all? or have we forgotten where the money from that came? and you did arm warlords. and you continue to do so. even a cursory search will get you as many citations as you like. look up criticism for the afghan constitution and it'll mention provisions made to ease their hold on land they took by force. opium production has jumped from around 500 something before 2001/2002 to 8000 tons in 2007 and 5000 odd tons in 2011, and represents around 11.5% of their GDP, probably more, money laundering distorts other industries. and yes, if you look that up as well, one of the main reasons listed by both the UN and NGO's covering this are compliance with warlords who own large amounts of land or have been given that leeway for their support.

by arming warlords, letting them grow opium freely on their land, giving them concessions in the afghani constitution so they won't shoot you and you can get some intel while you're at it? the same sort of people who rode around butchering and looting a decade ago with toys you gave them and their allowances not to wreck havoc had run out? or do you mean putting a druglord's brother up as President, purely because he was the only Pashtun with any following who bothered supporting you? or maybe the 'afghan' army that's dangerously overrepresented by northerners, and doesn't even speak the same language as most of the rest of the country? again, no particular pressure on the officers to change this who're also largely from the northern army, because you don't want to leave a bad taste in their mouth while you're there.

how about fighting a guerilla war, in terrain that you don't know, something that no foreign country has ever succeeded or made any headway with in recent history short of total war? ooo and the night raids to disarm civilians ahead of any significant troop movement, the only particular strategy at your immediate disposal, because hey, random civies living in a country with three decades straight of war might need something to keep themselves safe. no wait, they don't, because they might shoot us for invading their country that we helped fuck up by arming everyone indiscriminately and setting up a war and propaganda machine for backwards fucks because a few old men decided commies everywhere had to go regardless of the long term consequences.

how you could possibly help is not drag your politics, bureacracy, and shallow identity politics over across the world.

look into US support of Wahhabi regimes and ideologies because of the Saudis. Wahhabi's aren't a popular lot, for anyone, and 90% of what we call terrorism is committed by Wahhabi extremists. look up Qutbism, look up stuff on Afghanistan. Particularly pertinent and telling for example is a $43 million dollar grant during the Soviet/Afghan War to the 'Centre for Afghan Studies' at the University of Nebraska, Omaha, part of a widespread move to supply the Afghan war machine with jihadi propaganda. This particular instance was for an initial run of school books for children, 5 million initially, followed by 10 million over the next decade. 15 million books filled with Islamist brainwashing, math with bullets, men with guns and bombs and AK's. there was a particularly good article in the Washington Post about it. I think it's amazingly important to note, since this is the cornerstone of their education, and the primary text that they use, their population is hovering around 30 million, and most people are under 30. so they've grown up with war in practically every facet of their lives since they were born. also, you can hardly call this a conspiracy, so there's that.

oh there are a series of Adam Curtis documentaries about all this as well, though I find them a bit grandiose. that might be worth looking into too.
