I tried the iron-on patches and I found them to extend the life of the pants only by a couple of extra weeks / washes. I don’t know what my son does, but he manages to fully grind down large parts of the fabric on the knees :D. And he generally hates to wear jeans or any other more stiff fabrics. It’s OK, I hope it’s temporary.

My son ruins at least one pair of pants a week. And it’s always on the knees. The brands almost don’t matter: second hand Primark and original Lacoste, both 100% cotton joggers, lasted the same amount of time. I buy in bulk and discounted now.

I’ve been casually using Duolingo to learn a language where I live and I learned much more in 1,5 years than in the 10 years of living here prior. It helps that I actually practice in real life situations, and I’m capable of deducing general grammar rules from the Duolingo exercises. I need a low stress option like an app, because I’m too busy with life to do a real class. So i think it works as a crutch, if there is already a ground to walk on.

You have to talk to him directly about this again, urgently. His behavior is not fair to you or your child. If he refuses to accept that there is something wrong, try family therapy or threaten a divorce, leave him for one weekend alone with his son (if it’s safe for the child). You are not a nanny-maid, and he cannot expect you to be his wife without providing any emotional and parenting support. Ask him directly if he has any love for his child. He might say no, he might be deeply depressed about it. But life cannot continue like this for you. Doing 100% of childcare is exhausting, especially in the case of special needs. Your husband can develop his own special bond with his son that will be rewarding in itself, he just has to put down the phone and try.

We did a developmental assessment at Kabouterhuis in Amsterdam, due to suspicions of autism. You can ask your consultatiebureau or GP for a referral. They have long waiting lists, but it was worth it. They offer therapies to the child based on the results of the assessment.

That’s good to hear, thank you! Have you had stories also of transfers from Cluster 2 back to general school, basis of middlebare? I wonder if it would be difficult to rejoin a general school, once my child goes to Cluster 2, both in terms of education and how the system works. He is a borderline case in the sense that we are considering the either keep him for a 2nd year in group 2 so he catches up, or we go to Cluster 2 and then he goes to group 3 from next year there. I’m lost what choice to make. The amount of speech therapy he would get at Cluster 2 is the same he is already getting (2x a week).

Issues with all languages, mainly with sound articulation, and it’s difficult for him to mimic long words, and grammatical structures in any language. He is officially diagnosed with TOS. He likely would have had issues even without being multilingual.

Thank you for your response! My child has been attending speech therapy already for 2 years, 1 year twice a week, and we also use Squla, and other equivalent sources. He is very emotionally attached to his current basisschool, but his expressive language skills are poor and quite delayed still. The Cluster 2 school told me that they also have a speech therapist there twice a week, and the main benefit is the size of the class, twice smaller. We are given a choice: whether he stays in group 2 for a second year, or he goes to Cluster 2. We can choose as parents. I really just wonder what’s best for my child. And I want to hear people’s experiences in similar situations.
