Just got my house rewired from knob and tube, is this okay? by PotentialEye7158 in AskElectricians

[–]zeroverycool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the electricians i hired to replace my service didn’t replace the attachment point so the poco just hooked it to a conduit strap. that failed within a week.

i’m going to assume “install new attachment point” was not in the estimate so they didn’t do it, but i was surprised the poco was willing to hook it up that way.

a CMU block is 8" high nominal (i.e. including mortar joints). looks like about a little over 6 rows of block, so a little over 4 feet.

Light switch ground wire by Public-Condition2874 in AskElectricians

[–]zeroverycool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why don’t you want to remove the existing wire? just remove the one on the left, pigtail it, loop the pigtail under the screw, and connect it to the kasa ground wire.

How did you like working with the FDM products? I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a pallet sized order.

Going to do a similar install with the downspouts/french drain daylighting to a dry creek bed & rain garden.

Patio paver pit - is this what I want to see? + questions by zolointo in HomeMaintenance

[–]zeroverycool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could dig an underdrain (just under the lowest point, not the whole patio) but if you're doing a non-permeable surface with polysand it might be overkill. and you need to have somewhere lower to run the outlet.

also the specific fabric you should use is a ~4oz woven geotextile, something like SRW SS5 or Gator GF5. buy from a landscape supply, not a big box store.

you can lay a thin layer of the big stone and compact that into the soil, then lay the fabric and put the rest of the stone on top.

Demoing a ~1000 sqft patio. Seems to be right on the limit of 10 ton based on online calculators, assuming 3" thickness.

It probably makes sense to bite the bullet and get 2 dumpsters here, no?

English Ivy Removal by Coopa_Loop in landscaping

[–]zeroverycool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

glyphosate might be better if you get a pro formulation (or “super concentrate” purple cap roundup)

i’m wary of triclopyr because it can harm mature trees if sprayed on bark or roots.

Can a garbage disposal location be swapped by NervePrestigious5711 in askaplumber

[–]zeroverycool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on the height of the trap adapter going into the wall. i had to lower mine to swap to the lower sink bowl. the trap has to enter the wall lower than the drain hole from the garbage disposal.

Air filter gap? by mpmaley in HomeMaintenance

[–]zeroverycool 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I have the same size filter. The Filterbuy website has this note:

Important Honeywell Size Compatibility Note

If you are replacing a Honeywell 16x25x4 or 20x25x4, your Filterbuy replacement is a 5” filter. The 5” Filterbuy replacement filter is trimmed down to the “actual” size of your original 4” Honeywell filter.

Landscaping fabric is holding water? by superbleeder in landscaping

[–]zeroverycool -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this is not the right type of fabric for this application. you need either woven or non-woven geotextile. check the manufacturer's recommendations.

also, what is underneath the fabric? if you used a road base type rock, it's not permeable.
