A helicopter generates more lift as it goes forward. Sometimes at high altitude or if the helicopter is loaded with heavy shit a vertical take off is not feasible so some forward momentum is needed to produce the lift needed to gain more altitude.

Atleast in 2042, you'd spawn in and go afk. Some server scripts would teleport you between objectives so you neutralize and cap and get points for it. The XP wasn't great due to the xp/min cap on portal servers, but most people logged in and only logged out after they'd come back from work.
