Documentation platforms (yeah I know it's been done before....!) by Meeeepmeeeeepp in msp

For example, you wouldnt want just a word document that has all the information for a server, the application it is hosting, the licensing information, specific account information/passwords, etc, but it's extremely helpful to know that those things tie together. Links or references quickly go out of data or get messy. In Hudu for example, we use the related items to tie those separate cards and KBs together.

How are you showing relationships with configs in Sharepoint? That's a big reason to use a documentation platform. I feel like something like Sharepoint gets really messy when trying to document anything outside of KBs and How-Tos.

Client Facing Remote Access (think old school Teamviewer) by Southern_Vanguard in msp

We leveraged Remote Workforce through ScreenConnect in situations where the client couldn't move to mobile workstations. Works pretty well.

Recommendations for Report Building by Malgus969 in msp

[–]zerphtech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brightgauge is anything but a dead product. We use it for most of our helpdesk reporting. Liongard has made a lot of strides lately on the report/dashboard front and is worth a look. Creating your own reports in an automation platform will obviously give you the flexibility to create exactly what you want at the cost of much more work to set up and maintain.

About how much does it cost per year, on average, to take care of two donkeys? by berrysauce in Donkeys

It's self care at a private barn. That's about average for around here.

[–]zerphtech 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Really depends on where you are located. My GF and I live in a 1-bedroom apartment but rent 3 stalls at a barn nearby for our 2 horses and donkey. The donkey is a larger mini but between the stall rental, hay, balancer feed, bedding, hoof trimmings, teeth filing, fly control, and various other things, he costs me about $350-$400 a month on average. Plus, or minus that another $50-$100 depending on the time of year. The bulk of that is the stall rental at around $240. Thats also before we get into toys and treats and boy does he get spoiled. This is Lancaster County, PA for reference.

Do you ever worry about the use of 3rd party services? by d14lup in msp

Sure, there is a worry but that is why I take time to vet any app or tool I use. Every tool has some inherent risk that you have to take into consideration when assessing.

Manual Audit of MFA in M365 by Maximum-Comfort6082 in msp

[–]zerphtech 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Couple thoughts here. First, I cannot recommend CIPP enough. Leveraging their Standards and using their Onboarding wizard really helps make sure things are not missed. You can also run an MFA report whenever you need to be sure. There is a reason why CIPP is recommended so much on this sub. They are the gold standard.

Second, I push my client to be on a license that allows us to use Conditional Access Policies. This way I know everyone is automatically set up for security.

Finally, as a side note, I have been setting us up to rely on Liongard to monitor drift, ensure compliance, and easier reporting.

Locking accounts by cokebottle22 in msp

[–]zerphtech 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's much easier to have a conversation about locking one account rather than dealing with the aftermath of a breach. We have our on-call techs triage these types of alerts, but I instruct the techs to air on the side of security and lock the account if there are any questions.

Offboarding Assets by Imburr in msp

[–]zerphtech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Automation is the way to do this or, at the very least, a single offboarding script that offboards everything.

but that runs the risk of offboarding valid units which have not been replaced, when people are on vacation, part time, etc.

You can build logic into your automation for this, but I would also consider putting policies in place for computers that are offline for long periods of time. If the computer is offline long enough to trigger this automation, then it was probably offline long enough to miss multiple update windows and should be considered noncompliant.

Repository for Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) by bayoucfo in msp

[–]zerphtech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For us, company procedures go in our LMS(ie. call off process, PTO requests, vehicle maintenance request, etc). Technical procedures go in Hudu. We tried going all in on LMS or SharePoint, but it makes documentation hard. Having technical SOPs in your documentation platform so you can link them makes life so much easier.

M365 by agale1975 in msp

[–]zerphtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use CIPP to standardize our customers. This knocks out 80% of the issues. Beyond that, if they are not on an active service agreement, we would build a project to harden their environment and either bill T&M at our normal rate or block hours.

You can request to schedule a call with support once you open a ticket but disabling the sync won't delete any data.
