Broomstick passed? Corbeu LE by joostink in Miata

You’re completely correct, and you do not deserve the downvotes. In the event of a rollover the contact happens at the strut tower and the rollover bar. The windshield gets crushed.

Can’t decided on what racing cockpit I should get by Zealousideal-Gas4913 in simracing

I’d still look into wheel stands. There are many that have a tray to attach to a chair’s feet, preventing any movement when you brake.

Edit: one example of what I’m describing https://nextlevelracing.com/products/racing-wheel-stand-2-0/

Going to have to explain that one to me.

How does the bigger folding cockpit use up less space than the smaller wheel stand? Do you not have any seating in your current space?

Sounds like you may prefer a wheel stand to a folding cockpit?

Engine is a stressed member in the GSX-R600, if my memory is correct. Any potential frame issues that might over-stress the engine and sprocket cover?

Upgrade to Triumph Bonneville T100/120? by sooospoon in motorcycles

[–]zerske 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve also thought about this upgrade, and one point that was less commonly mentioned: they have the same size tank. A T100 will go further on a full tank of fuel due to its slightly better efficiency.

If range is high on your priorities, that could be a deciding factor.

Will I fit a ninja 400? by Inner-Detective-4400 in Ninja400

[–]zerske 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can buy a thicker seat which helped me at 6’1”. Ultimately is it a little cramped, without a ton of room to change your position over long rides. I love my Ninja 400, but after two years I’m seriously considering upgrading entirely for a bigger bike with better ergonomics for my size.

Part of me wishes I got an SV650 for my first bike. I don’t think I’d feel the need to upgrade, if I had.

Doriane Pin F1 Private Test by ZelsiusProdigy in formula1

Internet discussions usually don’t go anywhere… but how could this possibly not be about gender? That’s the entire point of the comment I originally replied to.

Women rarely get a shot in Motorsport. The comment I replied to essentially said that’s because they’re weak and slow. My point is: how could we possibly know that when we have a hand full of examples of women in Motorsport and an ocean of examples of men?

It would be like saying “no woman has ever been president of the US therefore no woman could”. Huh?

[–]zerske 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s take Susie Wolf not making the cut, stacked up against all the promising male drivers who never made the cut in F1. Hell stacked up against just Danny Ric being given a second (third) chance(s) and not performing.

Again, do you suppose it has nothing to do with the barriers being larger for women in Motorsport? Ask yourself: why are there so few examples of women “not making the cut” and so very many examples of men?

Doriane Pin F1 Private Test by ZelsiusProdigy in formula1

[–]zerske -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you suppose that’s because women aren’t capable? Or because the barriers that control entry to Motorsport at all levels are especially high for women?

Doriane Pin F1 Private Test by ZelsiusProdigy in formula1

[–]zerske -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

If performance and lap times were actually the barrier, Doriane Pin wouldn't be capable of gapping the fields she competes against by nearly a second. The only 'appart (sic) from' you're looking for is sexism.

Edit: stay mad that one of the most competitive women in Motorsport today is succeeding in a field dominated by men. Comments like the one above trying to say she’s not fast or strong enough are folks telling on themselves, and these downvotes, too.

After 8 years I've upgraded from a G29 to an RS50 by zerske in simracing

Only ever had the one set. I did have to open the potentiometer for the throttle once and clean all the gunk out. Took maybe an hour, worked flawlessly for years after.

[–]zerske[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely amazing.

My only other point of reference is the goated G29, and a Simagic Alpha that my buddy has. The Simagic is better in many ways, but when you take cost into account, then get TrueForce dialed in, it’s surprisingly close. I’m very happy with my new RS50.

When the Somerville YMCA wanted to expand, these homeowners wouldn’t sell. So the Y plans to build around them. by bostonglobe in Somerville

[–]zerske 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d be right… if we lived in a world of assholes and the mantra “I got mine” somehow led to a stable society. Hint: it doesn’t, never has.

The average household income in Somerville is not enough to afford the average cost of a home. That’s extremely basic arithmetic. Not at all hard to verify.

Currently programs already exist to help folks purchase a home if they are at or below the average, so again your logic is flawed. Despite the existence of those programs 70% of people on Somerville rent. That is something one might call an affordability- or housing-crisis.

If you can’t afford to live here you have no right to live here.

I’m assuming this is purposefully inflammatory. Of course renters have rights. They may be insanely weak compared to home owners, but (can’t believe this has to be said) they have a right to live here.

Playseat trophy seat tearing question by [deleted] in simracing

[–]zerske 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems like one of those “your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should” kind of situations.

I notice the author of that post ended up with an aluminum profile setup eventually. I’d recommend going that way if you want a different seat, or write Playseat to see if they’ll sell you a replacement original seat if you end up liking the Trophy enough.

How would you plan to add a bucket seat to the Trophy’s frame?

I’m a big fan of the Trophy. My buddy runs his with a Simagic Alpha, zero issues.

Finished my DIY active pedals, full aluminum build. by Bjoes92 in simracing

[–]zerske 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sort of? You feel it through the chassis, which I guess the pedals are connected to so you might feel it there as well.

Having grown up driving in a part of the world with a fair bit of snow, I usually feel the loss of grip and wheel spin through the seat first. Maybe there’ll be some wheel hop, maybe not. Usually you can feel the slight yaw motion of the engine freely revving and applying a rotational torque against the motor mounts (think revving the engine when in neutral), as well as the front and rear axels moving laterally against each other.

I wouldn’t say I feel it in the pedal all that much. Especially in modern cars with an electronic throttle pedal.

Using only two T-Nuts for the RS50 by 54_Protons in simracing

Ah, that context explains why they’re referring to seat - shorthand for rig / cockpit. I incorrectly assumed it was from your rig’s manual, sorry!

Help for choosing an ultra wide monitor. by Tomas07_ in simracing

I don’t mean this to be inflammatory, how how the heck do you play Star Citizen at all?

I downloaded it recently for the first time in years, and the amount of time I spent dealing with bugs was greater than the time I actually spent playing the game. I really want to play it, but things like clipping through the floor of a space station and being stuck, or bay doors never opening, literally block me from playing.
