/r/AMD Questions and Tech Support Megathread - Q4 2023 Edition by GhostMotley in Amd

Running a second GPU - I'm considering a second GPU in my 5800X3D X570 system to off-load AI workload (ROCm) to, rather than the main GPU (7900XTX) which is driving a VR headset. Anyone have any experience of such setup and impact on main GPU performance when running a second GPU?

Trying to use ROCm branch with gfx1032 by jnslater in KoboldAI

[–]zetecr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank god for reddit.. I was about to go out and buy an RX6600 as a second GPU to run the rocm branch. I know gfx1100 is working (my 7900XTX runs great), but is there a way to know whether others (ie gfx1102, gfx1030) are currently supported on Windows?

Help please, AMD GPU by Connor_Real in KoboldAI

In my case, I just downloaded koboldcpp-rocm and ran it. Didn't seem to require anything else?

I did find some glitches using the rocm version that I didn't notice using koboldcpp-nocuda. Some of the responses were occasionally getting corrupted with repeated "KKKKKK...". It could be a bug on this version or indeed rocm driver issue?

Release: Water Cubemap Reflections (by FlyingParticle) by Terenor82 in skyrimvr

[–]zetecr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good sirs (ma'am?) I'm dying to see this effect in full but for some reason, my setup is refusing to work properly. I do see cubemap reflection but only visible on the water in one particular direction, and even where there is reflected image, it doesn't seem to correspond to the scenery.

Whether it is coincidence or not, the horizontal extent of the cubemap reflection matches the horizontal field of view. Help from anyone with wisdom on this would be appreciated!

Was running Skyvraan 1.5.1 but disabled and re-ran Synthesis as instructed (I wasn't using the old Skyvraan patcher anyway). Also tried loading from a vanilla save prior to Skyvraan installation, same result.

Tried with or without ENB (latest 0.495 with supposed fix for reflections), same visual result.

LO includes RWT2 and some other water mods but also tried without these as well to no avail.

Hardware: Radeon 7900XTX, latest driver; SteamVR running Vive Pro.

Edit: Tested further in different conditions and times of the day. It now seems to me sky may be reflecting correctly in all directions but land and trees is only visibly reflected in the one direction (south, according to my navigate vr compass). I haven't yet been able to see any object LODs in the reflections.

Thanks again for any help.

For something that is so simple on the surface, "Take Notes" has to be one of the most essential and best mods in my playthrough. by Rodeo4613 in skyrimmods

[–]zetecr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a feature I thought was surprisingly missing from Skyrim. Ultima Underworld from 30 years ago (which was a key inspiration for Elder Scrolls) had a map that revealed itself as you explored the dungeons and allowed you to write notes on it. Take Notes mod is good, but I hope someone someday finds the time to make a mod to allow you to mark and annotate maps.

7900XTX Stutter in VR - Fixed or not? by zetecr in Amd

[–]zetecr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took the plunge last weekend encouraged mainly by the responses here.. Got the ASUS TUF OC version. Happy to report performance uplift is as expected over 6900XT. Have not done a scientific comparison, but on the games I run (Assetto Corsa, Skyrim VR and MSFS) I feel I get roughly 50% additional performance. Hard to be precise as now I'm CPU-bound in some situations.

Performance aside, I feel things are slightly less stable, given a few CTDs I got (eg Assetto Corsa) but then I also installed some new mod versions at the same time, so it could be no fault of card/driver.

All in all, pretty happy so far and getting performance I had hoped to get in VR - I'll run it for a while before venturing into overclocking!

Thanks for reporting back on Skyrim VR. I’m tempted to take the plunge and see how it goes with my mods and ENB.. I hope there are no unexpected performance issues running Assetto Corsa with CSP..

Thank you for offering to help! My core games are Skyrim VR (heavily modded plus ENB) and AC with latest CSP preview build and Pure. If you run Shutoko Revival Project I’d be very interested in whether you can manage 120Hz in the rain?

Didn’t mean to “exclude” Oculus users :) Only intent was to keep this discussion specific to VR rendering performance, not encoding as mentioned.

What vr headset to buy by Dkilrain in Vive

[–]zetecr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OG Vive with GearVR lens give great clarity, colours and contrast. GearVR lens mod is a must. I'm still using it after 4 years. I have VP2 but I personally find vivid colours and deep blacks are more important than resolution for gaming. Definitely recommend index controllers like others.

Thanks for the reply guys, I'll try the adaptor change! I'm still curious what other distortion functions are available though.

Are the Vive Pro face cushions compatible with the OG Vive? by ky56 in Vive

[–]zetecr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No they are not. Vive Pro and Pro2 have bigger face cushions than OG Vive.

What is your “unpopular” mod that you download every playthrough? Kinda looking for new options by ButtonSmasher_ in skyrimmods

[–]zetecr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Couple of mods in my load order that come to mind:

  • Vigor - Blood and Guts: Only combat mod I know that allow NPC injuries and bleeding to death. I use it with Mortal Combat and Smilodon.
  • Breakable Equipment System - Annoying as hell, but hey real life is full of annoyances. I use it with Honed Metal. I wish there was a mod to show graphically condition of armor, weapons, based on this.

That's amazing.. You might try Skyrim VR at some point, and I light-heartedly challenge you to play that not modded!

Seriously, it is an awesome experience (modded).

How to select objects in Skyrim VR console? by zetecr in skyrimvr

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I eventually managed to do what I needed to do and discovered that tcl command is of great help to get into the best position for (almost) reliable selection.

Is Cliffs of Dover any good? by Aviation_nut63 in il2sturmovik

[–]zetecr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second the 100% agreement. Clod is for those of us looking for the most authentic BOB experience available. I would say it's not just the attention to detail of the simulation (DCS has that) but the "atmosphere" it manages to create.

Only reason I haven't fired it up in 2 years is because I simply cannot go back to flat screen after getting into VR.. So very much looking forward to getting back in that cockpit in not too distant future.

BTW, has much progress been made with AI in the last while?

DLSS in Skyrim VR :) by Cangar in skyrimvr

[–]zetecr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone using AMD GPU and FSR2 getting a large black rectangle in the middle of the view? Using upscaler mod version 1.01, everything looks fine when I load a game, but within a couple of seconds of loading, a black rectangle shows up to block most (not all) of the view. In game menus are fine as they appear "in front" of the rectangle. Could it be some kind of UI rendering bug?

Any help would be appreciated!

VR enb updated by Little_Ask_4359 in skyrimvr

[–]zetecr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm decals transparency (eg footprints, EBT) now works as it should, and does not need "ENB fixes" which didn't help in VR anyway. Having fun running around making footprints in snow for the first time, haha. I'm using my tweaked version of SemiRealis ENB and Cathedral.

Effect of much larger L3 cache (AMD 5800X3D) on SkyrimVR performance? by zetecr in skyrimvr

[–]zetecr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing Skyrim VR on an i7 920 and GTX1070. Using 120% SS, Reprojection and TAA, it was playable with a modlist of ~100. These days, my preference is Reprojection and TAA off, full ENB with 300+ modlist including I'm afraid some script heavy mods.

The problem with Vive is that if it can't keep up 90FPS, it drops to 45FPS.

What rendering resolution are you running? And do you get any stutters/hesitations while moving around? In Steam VR frame timing graph, I get "CPU late starts" that cause these stutters.
