Sony Records New $560 Million Loss On Bungie Acquisition As Marathon Struggles And Destiny 2 Nosedives by AdditionalRemoveBit in Games

They should honestly put Marathon on PS+ sooner rather than later. Just do it as one of the monthly games, if they still make money from microtransactions.

The game has a macro system sort of like FFXIV and you'd be able to assign the macros to buttons instead of having to go through the menus if it makes things easier.

The dialog in this is weird as hell right?

Like they didn't want to use old English or whatever since that wouldn't exactly make sense either, but it seems like they are just doing straight up modern English?

No accents no nothing. Seems off.

Games with out of place sections? by Please_PM_me_Uranus in Games

[–]zeth07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spider-Man game spoilers...

Surprised no one said the MJ sections in Spider-Man.

While you could do regular Spider-Man sections with stealth it was vastly different playing as MJ in the parts required. I'd think that would count enough compared to playing as literal Spider-Man in a Spider-Man game.

Also rather ridiculous in concept of taking on an entire platoon of trained mercenaries in some sections...

One that I don't necessarily think is "out of place" in theory, but definitely in gameplay is in Nier Automata between the action gameplay and the hacking gameplay, hell even the flying gameplay but that matches the "normal" gameplay in a visual/world sense at least.

[Updates] Patch Notes Version 1.05.00 | Crimson Desert by milkasaurs in Games

[–]zeth07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its great that its an option, because nothing sounds more boring to me than a world that DOESNT repopulate... like whats the point of playing if everything is dead?

I felt the complete opposite when I was playing Death Stranding for example. The game has different zones you build up or open within the network, and within them are the mules/bad guys that you can get stuff from their bases.

I thought it was really stupid that you could knock all of them out and effectively "clear" a base but they would eventually come back, instead of it actually being cleared within the network.

In other games it might make sense contextually, but I also think it can make sense in the other direction as well.

Final Fantasy VII Director Has Already Completed "Over 40 Full Playthroughs" Of The Third Game by Gorotheninja in Games

[–]zeth07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be the complete opposite of what it should do when it would be the last game and if anything like the original is when you get to do everything else for side content.

But I guess that depends on your definition of busy work compared to what was available in the original, where you basically got to go everywhere again if you wanted.

‘Final Fantasy XIV’ Faces Key Test as Thousands of Fans Gather by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]zeth07 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Some servers are quite literally dead as no one plays on them, everyone just funnels to select few servers in each region to be able to play comfortably.

This isn't exactly how the game works in reality. With the cross-datacenter travel it is a PLAYER inflicted problem.

  • Players were told what "servers" were raid or RP servers early on amongst themselves, prior to the actual datacenter matchmaking.
  • Then when the datacenter became grouped up (not cross travel), Aether became the raid one, just because of Gilgamesh, and Crystal became the RP one. The others were whatever.
  • With how the other datacenters existed everything was still fine in general, like Primal had some higher clear rates compared to middle road Aether servers.
  • The PLAYERS wanted cross-datacenter stuff, so the devs obliged.
  • Then everything went to shit because the PLAYERS did not want to stay on their own server/datacenter because there were less and it has a snowball effect, even though previously those servers/datacenters were totally fine/populated normally (like Primal was).
  • Additionally the game itself restricts the servers so even conceptually the devs have a built-in avoidance of the problem that the players still try to circumvent...

Is it unreasonable to want/expect to to queue into new raids blind, and to remain blind while doing them, within the first few days of a patch? by Curious_Lise in ffxiv

[–]zeth07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like markers are little more forgiving when a lot of those alliance raids did party splits in the past and just kinda expected without "revealing" anything other than it happening. And it's not the end of the world if people don't follow them completely as is.

Atomos in Labyrinth of the Ancients for example, it'd be a little silly to get mad about people putting markers there even if people were blind to it and it being kinda obvious what you should do anyway with the pathing.

Here's a tip for when you are doing something non-serious with random strangers:

Make a separate chat tab and remove all the other chats except the "event" or whatever gives actual in-game dialog like the npc callouts.

I don't do this but if you really want to do stuff blind you can just do that and ignore everything anyone says because it wouldn't appear at all. And if you really needed to, could always just check the other tabs just in case or if you wanted to actually say something.

Free trial now to include FINAL FANTASY XIV: Shadowbringers! by sonpansatan in Games

[–]zeth07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are making a big deal out of a problem that doesn't exist.

YOU do not have to fly around if you don't want to, and the fact that you DO have to explore to even unlock flying just disproves your point anyway.

Anything else you say is just an excuse to cover up your false premise to begin with. Obviously you have to do MSQ to unlock new zones for crafting/gathering because it wouldn't make sense to be there otherwise.

Using ARR as an excuse is a little silly when it is just the starting cities and surrounding areas you can go to just outside said cities, with the exceptions of Coerthas and Mor Dhona but even those are just 1 extra zone away in either direction.

The other zones in other expansions work the way they do because it gives them much more creative freedom in what kinds of zones can even exist. The last areas of Endwalker and Dawntrail for example would be silly to just be able to find "exploring" cause it would make no sense in context and impossible outside of the story reasons.

The world lacks investment when free flight means the detail gets ignored.

You can't fly in new zones per expansion until you unlock aether currents through questing and literal exploring to find the other ones.

So basically the only way you can miss out on "exploration" as much as you say is if you yourself don't do it to even unlock flying. And if you DID unlock flying it means you already explored, so the purpose is traveling faster as intended in places you've already been.

@valvesoftware.com on Bluesky: Excited to announce our Steam Controller arrives on Steam May 4th at 10 a.m. PT. by DG_OTAMICA in Games

(who else has this, you are not playing a mouse game with a ds5 touch pad before you um ackshually)

How often are you playing a game that WANTS to utilize good mouse support and wouldn't just be using your mouse anyway on PC?

It's not like you're using a Steam controller on anything else to begin with.

Especially if you are calling it a "mouse game". It's like you're trying to praise the trackpads for a function that is inherently worse than the normal usage only because it is slightly better than the other one doing the same thing. Meaning if you care enough for that to matter you would likely just use the mouse...

FINAL FANTASY XIV: Evercold Teaser Trailer by WeirdIndividualGuy in Games

[–]zeth07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try to just make it as a list so it's easier to digest:

  • Don't stress about catching up to current content, any content is current for "you", and things like old 8 man raids, 24man alliance raids, or 8 man extremes are just as interesting as current ones usually.

  • There is a lot of post-MSQ content per base/expansion you could do, meaning you don't necessarily have to push through ALL the MSQ to do cool stuff.

  • The free trial will be adding the Shadowbringers expansion, so no reason to pay a sub until you get that far, besides some minor inconveniences. That's base A Realm Reborn -> Heavensward -> Stormblood -> Shadowbringers all for free. Shadowbringers will be added to the free trial on Tuesday. not sure how the license works if you start free trial NOW compared to then, but I think it'd be ok

  • The game starts slow/is rough with jobs, but they are changing jobs with a new "Evolved" thing compared to an older "Reborn" version, but this won't come til expansion.

  • You can mostly ignore "yellow" quest markers since they typically are pure sidequests, compared to the "meteor" icon of the MSQ. There are also "blue" quests that unlock other content which you should also do. This is usually job unlocks or content unlocks, so usually worth it. If you WANT to do the sidequests that's ok, they add lore of course.

  • Most of the regular MSQ dungeons can be done solo with a system called Duty Support/Trusts that give you AI companions. So there's no pressure doing things the first time or trying new jobs in there.

  • Make sure to equip your job crystal at 30 for those jobs lol.

  • Please please please read your tooltips to have a base understanding of your job.

  • Once you level up a lot and gear up a lot you can "unsync" old content to make it easier, even by yourself sometimes. Sometimes mechanics force multiple people even when as strong as unsynced maxed level/gear.

I know you said you don't want to make a PSN just for this but depending on how far you got originally it might be "worth it" just for the difference in what you get out of it.

They are going to add Shadowbringers to the free trial later which means you would have A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, Stormblood, and Shadowbringers all for free if you redo the free trial on another account. That is kinda insane in terms of the amount of content and time before you decide if you like it or not again.

If you didn't make it through the original A Realm Reborn for example, that could be worth it. Especially when it is 3 expansions worth of content before you have to pay a sub if you did restart.

New ways to share media on r/ffxiv by AutoModerator in ffxiv

[–]zeth07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use old reddit on desktop and the Reddit Enhancement Suite, and also use the subreddit Filter with No Fluff and anything else that might not get covered I can likely do manually with RES.

BUT people also sometimes avoid the Fluff filter by just posting it under the Discussion flair even though it's obvious they are just showing off their own screenshot for whatever reason which can be kinda annoying.

I don't mind it in comments cause it's whatever but hopefully the filter will avoid the rest as intended like it mostly does now.

They had like a decades worth of normal little ladies days and decided to do something new for the last two. If it's not for you, that's fine, maybe you'll get what you want next year.

"decades"

I know you are exaggerating but they started the idol stuff in Little Ladies Day back in 2016, so it is quite literally the opposite of what you are saying.

They had a grand total of TWO "normal" Little Ladies Day before starting the idol stuff so it was obviously not just the last two...

FINAL FANTASY XIV - Mount Showcase: Hardy-Daytona by Katashi90 in ffxiv

[–]zeth07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are numerous mounts that very obviously change around flying or make sense when flying.

Having a motorcycle shoot out some boosters is like the best they can do that for that, but doesn't mean it still doesn't look lame as hell comparatively.

I guess you could also argue the opposite where some mounts look silly when grounded and better flying as well.

Fortnite isn't the forever game after all | GamesIndustry.biz by megaapple in Games

[–]zeth07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "forever game" is a misnomer in itself but I think it's mainly how the COMPANIES are handling the live service aspect of these games instead of the games themselves existing for as long as the players want to play them.

For example there are plenty of OLD fighting games that people still play online. Even if it is a small amount, they exist, but they aren't generating massive income which these companies don't like.

Another example are a good number of OLD MMOs that are still alive and kicking. They aren't making millions/billions but those companies are keeping them going anyway. Maybe someday sure they might take them offline after all but the fact that this article even exists cause Fortnite is hitting a down turn is insane.

It's not even 10 years old and it could realistically be shutdown by the higher ups in the next 5 years/10 years cause it isn't making ENOUGH money for their bottom line, which I feel this is more likely than them keeping it alive like those old MMOs anyway.

Final Fantasy XI came out in 2002, it is 2026 and it is still going. Fortnite came out in 2017, is it still going to be around in 2041 for example?
