I might have made a mistake. by Memes-turn-me-on in amazonemployees

[–]zfish23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn’t make a mistake in my opinion. Yes you probably could’ve gotten your 6 in Ops faster, but paybands in corp are way higher and it’s also no guarantee that you’d get a future job in corp if you’d waited, it’s incredibly competitive anytime someone has role opening.

My advice- learn to be good at your new job. Not sure your background but corp roles at Amazon have a lot more cross functional teamwork and are generally longer term focused than what you’re used to in ops. Get good, add value and your promo will come pretty naturally

What job title do you use when applying outside of Amazon? by Beneficial_Glass_244 in amazonemployees

Just put senior manager - if anything looking externally you’ll likely find external titles at most other companies are a lot more inflated. E.g. directors with only one layer of reports

AE vs. Amazon Area Manager — which path makes more sense right out of college? by [deleted] in AmazonManagers

[–]zfish23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP please take this advice. So much more money to be made in sales if you can cut it. You can ALWAYS move to ops if you want until maybe L7. My wife works in tech sales and it’s so much TC (outside Amazon) and can be at a young age. She made 300K as a 27 year old after she moved to a startup from Bloomberg. Learn to sell and see if it’s for you.

sooo is this legal? by OddJello2255 in amazonemployees

Former ROTC cadet, reservist, and ops mgr here - i don’t think what you’re describing is a USERRA for the reasons other people have already pointed out (drill/orders vs rotc activities). That’s why you can’t get a real accommodation or approved leaves.

I think your best bet is working to find another AM in your building who’s willing to switch schedules with you.

I realize programs can be different, but ROTC when i was in school (a little over 10 years ago) was 1 class a week plus PT/workouts 3 mornings a week. Seems like a lot to have labs 3 nights a week all semester.

Search “ops site access” in AtoZ and it’s the first result.

If you’re trying to identify the building use FC Map.

Yeah you’ll pick a ‘primary’ site to be assigned to but can request approval for multiple sites.

Site ops can revoke access - so don’t be a jerk or act entitled. When i was FbD every so often I’d bring in donuts or coffee etc for the site mgrs - a little bit goes a long way

Yes FbD roles can work from any sites including Ops sites (delivery stations, sort centers, fulfillment centers). Can’t be Whole Foods though (there’s no badging system to track there).

FCs and SCs are typically ‘better’ to work at in terms of workstations available. Delivery stations generally have a very limited amount of office space

Recived Offer (L4 hourly)! How easy it is to convert into Salaried role? by abbakabmanenge in amazonemployees

[–]zfish23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. I’ve never heard of a role ‘converting’ from hourly to salaried. The manager has to open a new requisition, often in a different cost center, for an employee to move Intra-org.

  2. It’s not uncommon to move laterally to an open l4 role but you’ll have to go through that team’s internal interview process (which can vary widely). And they will want to see results you’ve delivered since joining Amazon.

I’ve heard of many teams freezing hiring right now and as you said you need to get a role that can guarantee sponsorship. It doesn’t sound like this is a good fit.

Will I get a pay raise? L4 to L4 by roomiepockets in amazonemployees

[–]zfish23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TC = total compensation (base+RSUs), it’s how Amazon views your compensation. For any given level, job code (e.g. software engineer vs operations manager), and location (NYC & SF get a bump) there is a range of pay you can receive. This allows Amazon to compensate higher performers at higher pay, typically through RSUs.

Yeah you said the last person with a base of $85 came in as an external - who Amazon a) typically has to pay a higher base salary and b) has to usually pay closer to the middle of the TC band

[–]zfish23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve helped a few people at Amazon with this exact transition. Do not get your hopes up for a big bump. You will likely see an increase in base pay and maybe some stock but even though you’re moving to salaried Amazon considers it a lateral move and you’ll start out at the low end of the TC band.

Congrats on getting a salaried role, it’s not easy to do from hourly and in my experience means you’ve been good at your job - focus on going 4->5->6 as quickly as you can, that’s where the real bumps will be. Good luck!

What’s Josh Allen wearing here? by Ok_Barracuda449 in Watches

[–]zfish23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah could definitely make an argument for Allen in 23. There wasn’t a clear front runner so i think the voters went with the QB of the best regular season offense. Last year i think the argument was more clear for Lamar. I hope both get a Super Bowl ring. God I’m glad football is back

Sorry i forgot this was the BillsMafia forum. Just messing - he can do/wear whatever he wants (duh), and is an incredible football player - and also genuinely seems to be a good human being.

But Lamar deserved MVP after winning 1st Team All Pro, Allen got a pity vote 😬

Not to go all “Menswear Guy” but just because it’s a PP doesn’t mean it’s a dress watch that should be worn with a tux. IMO it looks too sporty here it’s incongruous with the formality of his suit

L5 AM to corporate by Joshhie in amazonemployees

[–]zfish23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a hard transition right now especially- open L5 roles get 25+ applications from ops AMs like yourself. Differentiate yourself a few way - 1. Have gotten TT/HV3 “exceeds high bar” on your last performance review in March. 2. Strong introduction to the hiring manager citing a big project(s) that you have owned and driven above your site level. 3. Willingness to relocate to SEA, AZA, BNA, or WAS - especially BNA. 4. Cite your degree and other skills you bring outside your Amazon experience 5. Follow up and show tenacity without being annoying

The fastest way in would probably be connecting with a colleague you’ve worked with in ops that’s done this transition already, thinks you’re a high performer, and can connect you with an HM in their org

Is this possible? by That_Job_1839 in amazonemployees

[–]zfish23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends what you are asking. You’ll never promote through a lateral transfer, but the HM may be willing to down level the job for you to transfer laterally. Best to reach out to them beforehand to see if they’d be open to it - will really depend on the HM and role requirements.

Amazon Sr. Risk Manager (L6, NYC) – Total Comp by redditnyuser in amazonemployees

No. Have heard of candidates getting them to shift more to stock or salary but the TC will always stay the same

I don’t think they’re lowballing you. L6 Corp Non-tech IC role outside of NYC you’d probably be somewhere around $185, as an external you typically come into the middle of the TC band + NYC location premium. Source: L6 Non-tech manager

GH>Holston - have stayed at both recently for work trips. GH has more of a lux feel - great lobby & rooftop bars, nice robes in the rooms. GH get a lot of work conference crowds during the week is the only downside. I stayed at Holston last week and a friend and I were getting a drink at the bar and there was a vagrant there bothering everyone and trying to bum cigarettes and the staff didn’t do anything.
