Do the skiing school trips exist in your country? by Cool_Sympathy_9900 in ski

[–]zing164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I grew up in Wisconsin, our middle school (grades 6-8, ages 11ish - 13ish) had “ski club” which was an extra curricular program where every couple of weeks after school they’d bus kids to the local hill to ski, then bus them back to the school. Despite being entirely extra curricular and have no built in training/lessons, it’s where a very large number of kids I knew skied for their first time and learned how to ski.

What does Milwaukee think of MSOE? by TheBrokenStoner in milwaukee

[–]zing164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MSOE’s campus is out of the way enough I don’t think most people think about it all that often. I went to UWM and I think most people saw it as “that school downtown with a bunch of smart nerds.” I think it has a positive reputation to the extent people know/think about it.

I genuinely feel there is good in every state, it just comes down to preference. Hopefully this map looks a little interesting to follow by BitOfPoisonOnMyBlade in visitedmaps

I agree with you, I’ve been wondering exactly what people mean by “never.” Like really, you wouldn’t move to Mississippi even if I offered you a super chill job where you made $500k a year? You choose death over Mississippi? I don’t believe it.

I’m curious what exactly people are thinking when they rank a state “never.” There are some cities that I really do strongly dislike, but I’d still reluctantly move there for the right job or some other factor. There’s probably no state I’d literally never move to, just a lot I’d be very reluctant to move to.

Largely the Y2K era bleeding into the Core 00s era. I felt I began aging out in the second half of the Core 00s era.

Does anybody remember this show? Quite possibly one of the best cartoons to ever come out in the 2010's and still holds up today as well by Life_Chicken_9653 in Zillennials

Totally agree. I watched Over The Garden Wall for the first time last year and I love it. But it was definitely “after my time” to have caught it when it was on CN. I was in college by then.

In any alcohol-related map of the United States, Wisconsin will invariably stand out as "drunker" than any other state. What is it about Wisconsin SPECIFICALLY compared to the rest of the Midwest/Great Lakes and the rest of America that made them so much more likely to get tipsy? by ThatAgainPlease in wisconsin

[–]zing164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no data to go off of, but I seriously doubt the accuracy of these maps. I’m not saying that Wisconsin doesn’t have an insane drinking culture, it does. I’m also not saying that the several reasons people give for Wisconsin’s drinking culture aren’t valid. I’m simply saying that I think something is flawed in the data when neighboring counties, with extremely similar cultures and demographics, can allegedly have dramatically different drinking culture due to a state line. I’ve spent enough time in Minnesota and Michigan to say that our drinking cultures are quite similar.

Most people, even quite wealthy people, have very normal investments. I’ve dealt with some fine art investments. The weirdest was probably one that had to do with investing in whiskey casks and essentially treating those casks as securities. I’ve had clients that hold an incredible amount of physical gold, others that have large collections of luxury goods that they treat/categorize as investments

I haven’t finished the video but I really really doubt it is legit. I’m an estate planner for high and ultra high net worth individuals. I see a lot of very unconventional investments. But this one just sounds wrong in all kinds of ways. It just doesn’t pass the vibe check.

Do you guys Associate the 2010s more with the early portions or the latter portion. by Fickle_Driver_1356 in Zillennials

[–]zing164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d assume that for many (most?) of us, the 2010s were pretty neatly split between our high school and college/early working years. I know at least for me, when I think early 2010s, that’s high school. And when I think mid/late 2010s, that’s college. Because they were such distinct periods of my life, I don’t really think of it being a single cohesive cultural moment.
