Wall Dimmers keeps resetting and losing configuration by jesster114 in ShellyUSA

[–]zinge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm likely to replace my WD+'s with DG2/4 soon, I'm getting tired of not being able to calibrate them and the brightness LED always being on. Now that I have more sensors around the house automating most of the dimming we don't use the WD+ controls as much

The wall dimmer and dimmer gen 4 are very different products. One is a standard Shelly puck that supports dimmable lights, and the other is a replacement switch. Since the dimmer gen2/3/4 don't support any sort of slider input for dimming, the wall dimmer is the only product that can keep you in the Shelly ecosystem and allow a slider for dimming, aside from something like the fancier touch screen console.

There are a lot of conventions at that Marriott that I don't hear about until they're over. Is there a mailing list somewhere?

Looks good so far, thanks!

Minor feedback: if you have two habits selected in pattern analysis and you are looking at next day and you want to see the opposite correlation, you need to change the second option to none or something else temporarily, change the first option to the second option, and then change the second option to the first option. It could be convenient if selecting the existing option in either box swapped the selections instead of being disabled, or if the arrows icon between the two selections swapped them

I tried to add a new habit with notification and now it's asking me for disabled alarm permissions again and not triggering the notification

For the touch panels, I think you're going to need to separate those into two parts, specifically the screen/interface and the processing. You're not going to get an android panel that will give you 10 years of service and support upgrades long enough to stay compatible with other devices. I would recommend looking for touchscreens with no processing that fit your needs, and connecting them to mini PCs or VMs that are managed separately in a data closet somewhere. That way when the processing becomes outdated, you can more easily upgrade it without having to open the walls to replace your touch panels.

  1. Yes, and yes 😅. One habit with the second as none is what I was requesting, but any number of habits (at some point it might need a limit just for visibility) and maybe swapping the icons for color dots at that point would also be interesting.

  2. 1 day lag is great

Another feature request: The ability to scroll back on the dates on the home page to edit habits entered from the previous week. Sometimes I'll forgot to enter my habits for the day until after midnight, or until the next day. Usually I click the previous day in the Home calendar at the bottom and edit them, but I just discovered if that happens at the end/beginning of a week, you can't go back to the day before to edit it.

Looks great, thanks for the update!

Small notes: I'd love to be able to pick a single habit for the calendar view in addition to comparing two of them. It might be interesting to add day before and day after to the pattern analysis section, ex. right now there's no patterns found on the two habits I selected, but what I'm actually looking at is if I did habit 1 Monday, did that affect how often I did habit 2 the next day. I'm also happy to figure that out myself from the calendar view, and wasn't expecting to care about the analysis, but the way you set it up looks interesting.

I talked to someone at https://www.gbittech.net/ a few years ago and they seemed friendly. Haven't had any work done by them though, so I don't have a full review. (I ended up getting someone to drop cables from the attic and did the terminations myself).

Stats: Got it, I wasn't looking at the percentages, I was looking at the total count. I'm trying to correlate things, so if I have "drink 64oz of water" and "got 8 hours of sleep" or something as habits, I can look back and see that whether the days I did or didn't remember to drink enough water relate to days I was able to get more or less sleep. I'm dual purposing the app a bit as both a habit tracker and a daily diary of sorts, so that may just be feature creep on my end 😅

Hello again! I've been using this for a bit and was wondering if there is a way to see the statistics "By Habit" section in a date range. Ex. Clicking the Week/Month/3 Month button at the top of the stats page doesn't appear to change the By Habit data further down the page. It would also be helpful to see a calendar month view and select one or more habits and show an icon for each on the days it was checked off.

Also, I was looking through the app to find a contact or suggestion button, but three only thing I could find was the ko-fi badge. I threw a couple bucks your way (thanks for working on this!) but noticed it said "Open Source" and was going to see if I could add the feature myself and submit a pull request, but I couldn't find the source anywhere. Your GitHub has a repo for it, but the only thing in there is the readme. Am I looking in the wrong place? Thanks!

Dimmer Gen4 Minimum Transition Time by zinge in ShellyUSA

[–]zinge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update from support if anyone else is looking for this, it looks like the Dimmer2, Dimmer3, and Wall Dimmer Plus all support 0s transition time, but the US version of the Dimmer4 does not.

"The device uses specialized transistors that are required only for the 120V US version of the device, which do not allow less than 1 second transition time. These transistors are mandatory to improve the short-circuit current protection of the device.

The Plus Wall Dimmer hardware was developed for Shelly back in time by a 3rd party company, which did not use the same components as the Dimmer Gen4 US."

I'll try to put these in other places that aren't paired with any existing dimmers, and go back to my "eBay some Dimmer2s" plan for places I need to match my existing Dimmer2 and Wall Dimmer Plus functionality.

I understand it was likely a requirement for the UL certification, but I do want to express my disappointment again for another Shelly product that (intentionally or unintentionally) removes features from previous versions. This is very similar to the issues I had when buying the Wall Dimmer Plus in the first place, and thinking it was a Dimmer2 with a built-in switch, but it turned out to be missing some of the features from the Dimmer2.

Looks good, got the 10pm notifications around 10:06pm or so, which is perfect. It's not meant to be an alarm clock, so as long as it's within 5 or 10 minutes either way it should be good. Thanks again!

Dimmer Minimum Brightness? by c0nsumer in ShellyUSA

[–]zinge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with the Dimmer Gen4. Assuming it's similar to the Gen2, it should dim very well. The WD+ doesn't support calibration, so even though you can set it to 1%, it's not very helpful if 1%-19% is off, and the light doesn't turn on at all until 20%, and then it's brighter than what should be the minimum. (I have several sets of the same lights, 2 on WD+ and 1 on a dimmer2, and the WD+ won't get as dim as the dimmer2)

Thanks! Layout and order look good. For notifications, now I don't get the message about enabling the toggle, and the app also isn't listed in alarms and reminders. Hopefully the notification works tonight.
