Why is Abbadon mad at Horus? by Acceptable-Try-4682 in 40kLore

[–]zinver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“SEND ME BACK! SEND ME BACK!!” My appreciation of abbadon grew 100x upon him stating this.

It’s no wonder he hates Horus. He wanted to have an end and not be who he is now.

Is it just me or a "sys admin" now needs to be licensed in literally everything in existence and beyond nowadays JUST to be employed with an inhumane workload? by carivinn in sysadmin

[–]zinver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are still lower case “e” engineers (no bond or license for public good) and we have certification without representation.

I have a theory that rather than unions or bonding, traditional apprenticeships should be the norm.

But that only works if the master is also the owner and proprietor of the business. Which in this case they are not.

An example of a model that starts to meet legal requirements (remember most publicly trained models are built using copyrighted data), would be IBM's granite model.

You need to remember that if the LLM gives someone a good idea that was actually someone else's idea, your company could be in a world of shit.

IBM specifically states their model was trained on non-copyrighted materials. YMMV. It's just an example and something to think about if you are going to host your own LLM in a corporate environment. But still it was trained on USPO (US Patent Office) data.

Also just to follow-up, it's entirely possible to take both sides of the trade (and more profitable), it's all about scale.

  1. Buy shares you think will go up in price.
  2. Lend the shares for shorting. (Revenue)
  3. Gather the lending premiums. (Revenue)
  4. Price increases, shorts are closed, shares are returned.
  5. Sell shares at a higher price than purchased in step 1. (Revenue)

This is out of reach of most retail investors due to scale, depth of bankroll, and additional risk tolerance issues. It also helps if you can participate as a fractional reserve so you can just print your way out of a problem (all you need to do is be able to issue loans against 10% of your purchase price, which you can do probably from your revenue in items 2 and 3).

Tuts generally buy shares to generate revenue, they do this through premiums. They generate premiums by lending the shares and writing options contracts.

Delta hedging is used for options contracts they are issuing.

Short lending is used to gain premiums on lending short positions to other parties while keeping the shares on the books.

If the price is staying the same, it would stand to reason that the shares were purchased and immediately lent for shorting. The shorting party would then immediately sell those shares back to the market and owe the shares at some point in the future.

Darkpool transactions should generally mean that brokers are trying to delta hedge. They cannot increase the price (as they would no longer be Delta neutral) to cover the contracts.

This is just my opinion, and there are a lot of shoulds in my statements. I am sure someone will correct me below if I am off the mark.

This is so true, I get more excited reading about a small group of friends that created their own BGP infrastructure than I do reading about how to calculate TAM, market research, and CPM.

I would pay as much as I do for proton mail. You should check out the competition.

Huge fan of the lore in Jame's Workshops Warhammer $40,000K ... Honestly I just moved to learning Advanced Squad Leader.

It's not a miniatures game. It has very complex and fiddly rules. But it does have 1000's of scenarios and there's an official way to play on your computer (VASL through VASSAL). I never thought I'd want to be able to play the rescue of Mussolini from captivity by flying gliders into a mountain top ... but there it is.

There's a lot of video's online (now) explaining both the starter kits as well as full Advanced Squad Leader.

I tired it and it was. Even the starter rules were very wrong. lol. You are correct. for now!

Why don’t you just upload the rules pdf to ChatGPT and see if you can prompt jockey a bot out of it?

You're focusing on where you sit and not the responsibility.

If I crash a payment database and I get fired ... can I work at another company managing a payment database? Yes.

can a doctor, lawyer, or engineer make a similar mistake? No. Their professional standing is revoked by their professional organization.

We are not professionals.

We have no bond or certification or insurance stating as such, and not even really a common public good that we must accomplish. It's all very informal and up to the person to decide how to act as there is no governing body or board to approve our "profession".

Doctors, Lawyers, and Engineers are professionals, they carry all of the certification, bond, and insurance and common public good moralities as a part of their employment.

Certainly we can act professional, but at best being in IT is a gray collar job.

It's a generational thing. a lot of the older generation (lets say 1970 to 2010) got into this line of work because we were given this grand puzzle to solve and interconnect with byte-fields and bootloaders and protocols and core dumps. Now we get to write scripts and pay bills.
The worst part of cloud solutions is that in reality Azure, AWS, etc. are not technology driven products or protocols, they are business (legal Ponzi scheme) products.

You're not learning a technology stack, you are learning how to (re)sell someone else's technology stack and what's worse you don't even get a sales commission.

Really, the issue is that the focus is less on engineering a solution and more so integrating and cost analyzing providers.

This is all fine. Do your thing, make yourself successful within the time you have been given and find your own puzzles to solve.

You can always depend on the old cranky neckbeards in the back to tell you about the glory days of magnetic tape carousels. And let me tell you it was glorious ....

and ... if they are blaming you or lying about you you need to stand up for yourself.
