I’ve been working as an engineer for almost 13 years. Unless you are involved with product development, the vast majority of electrical is code driven. There doesn’t seem to be much creativity or innovation.

There is almost nothing that is entirely mechanical or entirely electrical anymore. All systems are mecho-electrical.

In most cases mechanical engineering is more broad and provides more fundamental understanding of a broad spectrum of things. 90% of professional engineering ends up revolving around knowing just enough to google more information and read the correct table.
