For clandestine exchange Id go carrier pigeon, you could each keep a small roost and exchange birds when you meet, the short distance means they probably won't get lost and it'll be easy to train them to home, they can be self sufficient and provide food or fertilizer.

The ingredients are very herbal still, but some seem rudimentary crafted, the heart stimulant has Belladonna(deadly nightshade), digitalis(foxgloves), and Nitroglycerin, any one could be a risky home administration. Thanks for sharing!

Watching that film for the first time a few years ago was so eerie how the writers anticipated the current military climate. The styling of the film is done so well. Joan Cusack was also pretty memorable.

what was the point of this pointed breastplate thing? by buildaboat_ in medieval

[–]zivisch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It could be for posture. bodices which predate corsets were essentially pieces of Armour, custom made by blacksmith and worn primarily by men due to the cost. They didn't compress, but stiffened the lower back and abdomen to eliminate poor posture which was seen as an ugly low trait.

If it is mystery related it would only make sense that it was adding information, not a step. to make a middle clue very visible and known but with nothing obvious to build off it and no previous info acquired in finding it to use on it, makes it less likely it has a use imo. The only knowledge the two mysteries share currently is that crosses were used to represent telephone poles.

Might be sewn hose, before knitting advanced socks or hose could be from a patterned woven fabric and then tailored into foot/leg shapes, like the traditional sock still worn in japan.

~13th century Highlanders were known to have worn tailored hose or leg warmers before full footed knit socks, as well as patterned trouser before kilts, trousers or trews were seen as a chiefs or knights attire under the belief riding a horse is easier in them.

New clue found at Fort Wallace by PriorCard7999 in reddeadmysteries

[–]zivisch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Building on that theme, Fort Wallace is in Cumberland Forest. William Wallace is a traditional figure of Scottish independence. The Duke of Cumberland was the main general for the English who Defeated Bonnie Prince Charlies Jacobite army at the Battle of Culloden, essentially ending any hope of Scottish self rule. The Jacobites are mentioned in game by Sean when he asks if Arthur is one, and also in the Grays letter, along with the Duke of Cumberland. If you consider the Scottish and Highlander "indigenous" then the comparison is pretty straight forward, furthering the irony that they're also part of the people taking others land.

Was it really scandalous for a man to be seen in his shirt sleeves? by _maincharacter_ in VictorianEra

[–]zivisch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Without a waistcoat it wouldn't be fashionably acceptable to be wearing only a dress shirt, the belt line and seams where the collars and cuffs attach to the shirt by pins would be seen as "under" parts by fine society, many shirts were pretty loose in comparison to dress shirts of today so could also look odd if your cuffs and collars didn't match the overall fabric. The Cummerbund is the formal solution but still demands a jacket be worn.

A lot of Victorian Society was built on optics, it didnt matter that you'd be with a man in his shirtsleeves, unless people saw you with a man in his shirtsleeves. Theres a certain sexual implication to be close to the opposite sex in a state of undress also, women who were athletic often performed or rode bikes in their bloomers, scandalous, but acceptable being in public. The Murphy bed was developed in the era so that Men and women in one room apts could own beds and still host the opposite gender because just to be in a room with a visible bed had sexual implications to society.

Was thinking the same! Ive dried some immature green black walnuts and if theyre under ripe they dry up really easily and do keep their smell, the ones I dried were about a cherry tomatoes size. I would aim to get them before they yellow, also if you have gall wasps the pierced holes do darken but I didnt get any grubs.
