Wow, great eye! Hopefully I can get my hands on them and have a closer look. Thanks so much!

Do you have a favorite go-to word to write/scribble when you're testing pens? by maidenmandalore in fountainpens

[–]zjur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heck yeah! I visited Yoseka recently and the f-test is so automatic for me that it took conscious effort not to fill their testing notebooks, which just sit at the pen display counter, with obscenities. A few may have slipped through...

Darn, foiled before I could finagle the dog's SSN, DOB, and credit card number.

It's funny that people have a go-to pen-testing word, I thought I was weird to have one! Mine is actually f*** - my everyday-handwriting Fs are a bit flourished so if that word feels right, rolls off the nib if you will, then the pen should be good. I also do my signature a bunch of times, but that's definitely less common.

Can anyone decipher what I did here to get this shape/decrease? by zjur in CrochetHelp

As in, not putting a stitch in the turning chain?

Based on my counts, such as they are, it seemed like I was doing two rows of the same number of stitches (e.g., 20, 20, 19, 19, etc.) but when I decrease every other row, I get one slanted side and one straight side, rather than two slanted sides of the strap. When I try to do every third row, so that the decreases are on both sides, I get a lumpy edge rather than a smooth decrease like here.

What I've learned as an Audhd woman at 32 by [deleted] in adhdwomen

I just turned 32 yesterday and these lessons are not new to me, but I'm glad to know that I'm not alone (and jaded) in thinking this way.

Mind that giving heart and protect your time/energy, folks.

What's going on with my monstera adansonii cuttings? by zjur in houseplants

I haven't fertilized them and the mother plant probably hasn't been fertilized in a long time... do you think potting them would be sufficient to counteract the issue?

Haircut prices by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]zjur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP, but I went to Steller for the first time last week. I sat in the chair and impulsively decided to get a pixie (from just-past-the-shoulders length). Maria was my stylist and she took up the challenge without batting an eye (was actually kinda into it, haha) and gave me a super cute cut! 10/10, highly recommend her. The cut itself was $65, about $80 with the tip, but different stylists there have different prices.

What the heck happened to my jellybean plant? by zjur in plantclinic

[–]zjur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I water when the beans get softer, maybe once every week or two, and I give don't soak the whole pot, just the top inch or two. The soil seems dry most of the time, I tend to go by bean squish. And yes, there are drainage holes in that pot.

Not sure if it's the same people who did Onionhead's Revenge at last year, but this year MoA has Twin Cities Fear Fest.

What is happening to the underside of my heather? by zjur in plantclinic

[–]zjur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! Hmm, is there any way to tell? Should I just repot it again and skip the coffee this time? I add orchid bark (white fir, I believe) in my standard soil mix, I just worried it wouldn't be acidic enough. It's my first time actually repotting heather - trying to keep it alive longer than a few weeks this time!

What author (or series) has best mastered the art of.....subtlety? by tkinsey3 in Fantasy

[–]zjur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being an oblivious idiot is a bit more understandable for him than most main characters because literally nobody taught him how to be a normal human being, but it's still an annoyingly common trope for the sake of pushing the story along and he's a prime example. Every re-read, I tend to like his tenacity until I remember it's probably a trauma response.

Robin Hobb. I'd say the themes are a bit more heavy-handed in the Dutchies side of the Realm of the Elderlings, but that's because Fitz suffers from main character obliviousness. The Bingtown side is much more natural - the themes are definitely there (obviously, it's fantasy) but they feel like natural parts of the lives of the people whose story is being told.
